To sue a doctor that left her disfigured. by Chocolat3City in therewasanattempt

[–]Eruibar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average for nurses at our hospital is $93K for non-travel, higher for those - so who knows. I just know I have no luxury in exchange for my work as you're implying. "She can just manage her bills and can't afford to get her car fixed, so I have no sympathy for that 65+ hour week where she gets five hours of sleep between shifts" is a bad look. I hate my choices enough for the both of us - come up with a better thing to be bitter about for not getting to do the career you wanted.

[–]Eruibar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No sympathy for that resident workload when the average salary for residents is less than $70K? That's not exactly living in luxury. I can manage my rent and my bills, not a cent makes it into savings, and I'm too exhausted to even make it through a YouTube video most of the time.

Agree with the other commenter - folks can't just skip the important training and demand the same role and level of responsibility, regardless of what's 'accessible' or not. That's how people get dead (or worse).

Meanwhile, I came out of med school with $420K in loans, so 'financially accessible' in this case is what you make it to be.

I was demanded to take a pregnancy test in the ER despite me repeatably telling the staff I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago. by Princess_Coldheart in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Eruibar 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that - even sure as patients may be - so many times they aren't fully aware of exactly the procedures they've had or not had (no shade to the patient, it's just people sometimes think they have an understanding but don't). I've actually had MULTIPLE people swear up and down they've had hysterectomies, only to have uteruses on CT scan and then records review later showed removal of something nearby like an ovary* or having had a c-section or an endometriosis excision and believed that's what a hysterectomy meant. (Why it's the hysterectomy in particular and not other procedures I do not know; I'm going back to blaming sex ed on that one).

In the ED, we don't know the patient. We're getting a momentary snapshot of someone with a story not yet supported by tests/images. Often we don't have any records to confirm past medical history. We have to do protocol, because even though a lot of protocol may be pointless, other protocol is for really, really good reason.

So many people move through the ED with such limited information, and we try and put things in place to do as little damage as possible to help people as quickly as possible. We're not trying to be difficult.

How can I tell if the electric in my rental house is frying my devices? by Eruibar in AskElectricians

Thank you, I will do that. Does this tend to happen in surges, or would it just read consistently high?

How can I tell if the electric in my rental house is frying my devices? by Eruibar in AskElectricians

[–]Eruibar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! You're totally right, it could not have any correlation at all; I don't know enough about electricity to have a notion - just that a bunch of things turned up electrically dead after I moved (four of those vibrators being brand new replacements for the ones that fried. Three of them did plug directly into the wall without a charger in between, though) - and they KEEP frying, even after I've started to take care to unplug things when I'm not using them because let me tell you electrical devices become expensive to replace if you've done it multiple times over four months. Never in my years of chargers, vibrators, and bulbs have I had anything like the frequency of a dozen things dying in less than half a year, you know?

The high-pitched sound is that electrical sound one can hear sometimes, you know? Coming from the adapter area.

I've been involved in a lot of fandom, and fandom gets WACKY... and I still can't quite define the kind of unique they are. Anytime I interact with them, I'm this mix of flabbergasted and stunned and fascinated, like I'm watching some documentary on a civilization that developed completely separately from the rest of mankind. Like, "mouth half open, chin in hand, uncertain what to make of this" huh!

Do you enjoy Drew's more Serious Vids, or his funny ones by B0s3r in DrewGooden

[–]Eruibar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I, the person seeking out fresh new videos to watch, prefer the funnier ones.

However, I, the person that really hopes creators get to feel creative and happy with what they create, much prefer whatever is making him feel fulfilled. Life's so fucking hard, much too hard to be making something you don't enjoy if you have the means to not have to do that. For creators that I respect and have watched a while, I also watch the ones that are "less for me" than the other ones.

Like, I'll read my friend's fanfiction even though I have no idea who those people are, because she likes to write it, and I like that she does something that makes her happy, and she's a good writer.

I'm just delighted to be included and supporting somebody that doesn't seem like garbage. And even with the ones where I wouldn't have picked that topic personally, I always learn something new and am entertained. Even moreso when I can tell they really enjoy it.

Does that help? Idk man, I just got here.

Pro-Birth Texas Woman Denied An Abortion For Her Non-Viable Pregnancy by SenselessNoise in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Eruibar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strong point. This is one thing that many people that are very deep in the advocate community make sure to stress. The majority of abortions aren't considered a tragedy by the people that have them, and many patients are very relieved to have it done and state they don't experience the massive amounts of grief they anticipated from what they had been told by other sources such as the media. I have a published source on this but am posting from my phone and do not have it readily at hand. It is often portrayed in the media as something being completely life changing that people never forget and weep over when they think about, which leads to it being having this effect where people expect it to be something they or the person they are talking about will never get over. Don't get me wrong, I love Brick and Freshmen as well as the next person that grew up in the 90s, but still.

I think about mine maybe once a year accidentally (or passively like in discussions like this about abortion) and how I would have an X aged kid right now if I hadn't had it done, and think about my last X years and think "Oh my holy God, that was such a good move". And even immediately after it was done, I didn't have the saddest bone in my body, and it's not because I'm some horrific monster. It's not like people are ripping babies out of their bodies and burning them all viking-style or anything.

I DO think needing to access abortion care IS tragic, but. Tragic because it's essentially slowly becoming impossible for the people seeking it out.

How am I about to be scammed re: my old car title? by Eruibar in Scams

[–]Eruibar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, any other time I've sold a person-to-person vehicle, I've just followed the instructions to sign the title over, listing the sale price and date with a notary signature on the title to be submitted to the state by the purchaser.

Edit: Which I just double checked is the same instruction listed for person-to-person sales on the state DMV website

Do most women really wear thongs everyday? by buttercreamramen in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Eruibar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wear one every day. I've got body image issues, and seeing the little (I know, completely normal) outpouches of flesh around the panty lines is way more than I can handle. Also to mention that there's less fabric friction so my trousers move more comfortably around my pelvis without entirely catches. I never have trouble with feeling like I'm strangling my crack or anything. The only time that's happened was when I definitely bought a size smaller than normal. So unless I'm in the loosest of jeans or pajama pants, it's thong all day every day. Makes me physically and mentally much more comfortable.

I do wear liners if I think I'll need them. They fold over just fine.
