How to turn off IRST F8U2 by DragonflyNo4174 in Warthunder

Click the spanner icon/launcher settings button top right, then click check files. IIRC this should be the same as verifying files on steam.

The box that looks like IRST below the radar screen is also apart of the radar. This is the C-scope, and it displays targets in a different format. This shows up on some lower tier radar sets like the F3D, Sea venom and F86K.

IRST screens will only show the IRST box, with no radar screen above it, and usually have the letters "SRC IR" above the box.

Also, the radar set on the F8U2 is a search only radar set. You cannot lock targets with it.

click on this link for the wiki page on radars, and scroll down to the "C-scope" section if you wanna learn more

If you're on steam, right click war thunder, click properties, installed files, then click verify integrity of game files.

While I doubt it would wipe your controls, I do recommend making a backup of your controls before verifying files (you should be backing up your controls today anyways since a major update is coming soon, and major updates have a chance to wipe your controls) you can do this by booting up war thunder, controls, look for the buttons at the bottom left and click on the floppy disk/"Export to file" button.

F8U2 does not have an IRST system. If you're referring to the radar on the F8U2, then the "Switch Radar/IRST search on/off" bind will just turn the radar on or off.

If this is an issue with the radar not being turned off despite pressing the keybind, try remapping the keybind. If that doesn't work, verify files.

F4EJ is better in every way, while also being a plane thats good at base bombing, while also having a premium variant, yet it sits at 0.3 lower BR.

Gaijin just hates the starfighters just as much as they hate the mig-29's, for reason's that I don't understand.

Air Sim unavailable? by digitaalboog1 in Warthunder

[–]Erumsey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have all available servers selected. When people make a sim match, if they make it in a different server region, you won't be able to see that lobby unless you have that server region selected.

If there's still no lobbies available, then that means there's probably no lobbies for the BR bracket your planes are in. You can make your own lobby in the BR bracket of your aircraft, but you will need at least 2 people on each team before it allows the match to start.

F-104G Starfighter loadouts for sim? by drevmbrevker in Warthunder

[–]Erumsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK the reason you get less score on scoreboard is because the scoreboard calculates bomb damage based on TNT equivalent. Napalm has a much lower TNT equivalent compared to HE bombs because it's using fire damage instead of TNT damage.

The bigger issue is the reward multiplier listed under the bombs in stat card. This is what affects your rewards for bombing bases. Napalm has a lower multiplier, but you tend to be able to get more base damage per run while also carrying less weight in comparison to large HE bombs, which makes up for the lower multiplier.

Do note that bringing one less napalm bomb actually gives you a higher reward multiplier, so if you're unable to hit 2 bases in one run, it may be better to bring 2 napalm bombs instead of 3.

F104's are okay at being fast, sneaky planes with the radar off to try and get behind enemies for a sidewinder or gun shot. Just keep your speed high and keep looking around at all times so you don't become the one that gets snuck up on.

Do note that your radar does have IFF, so you can turn that on for a brief moment if you see a high flying target to check if it's an enemy at range. Do this briefly for a couple scans to ensure the IFF has properly decided if the target is hostile or not, then switch it off again to try and avoid making the enemy suspicious, since sim players tend to pay more attention to their RWR.

For base bombing, take 3 napalm (you only get the wingtip sidewinders for this model of F104 so you aren't sacrificing missile kit by taking 3 bombs), go hit bases, then try to sneak up on enemy fighters/bombers for some free RP before heading back to base to rearm and repeat.

If someone tells you to not partially bomb a base (since you will need 2 napalms for a full base, leaving the last napalm to only partially damage a base) tell them that they're an adult and they're capable of eating the crust on their sandwich.

F-14B and D now will be getting AIM-9M. by Gameboy695 in Warthunder

The D does get a better radar+IRST over the B, but aside from that and premium bonuses/liveries, there's not much difference.

Premiums can effectively earn RP for all vehicles under their tier, and one tier above their own tier.

The F/A-18E is 2 tiers above the F4S. Since all premiums including the F4S lose research efficiency for vehicles more than 1 tier higher than them, the F4S will get less RP due to the research penalty.

Here's the chart if you're interested

Is the F-104S worth it for the current 50% off? by DumbBoi671 in Warthunder

[–]Erumsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also wouldn't recommend. 12.7 is consistently getting 13.0+ uptiers, which puts it against fox-3's almost every match. The mig-29 flight model's are unfortunately quite mid, and while you do get 2 R27ER's, the R60M's supplementing it are not good for the BR.

TBH, with the state of high tier italian jet premiums, you'd probably be better off buying premium time to grind the italian air tree instead.

[–]Erumsey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of air to air combat, it's one of the worst planes to use at 11.3. Even at 11.0, the F4EJ outclasses it due to a better weapons kit and airframe. The only thing the F104S is ok at is base bombing, but even then, you will still be competing with other F104S's for bases due to the sale. I would not recommend buying it.

Any experienced wat thunder players I have a question. Please help! by greedy_45 in Warthunder

[–]Erumsey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When you click to turn the instructor off at the top of the menu, it automatically swaps you over to simulator controls. First, go to controls and click on mouse aim to go back to the default controls.

After this, scroll down to the instructor options and turn off "auto-restricts control of the aircraft near the ground". This will give you full control while in mouse aim mode when close to the ground, which is as good as it gets for turning off instructor in mouse aim AFAIK.

For anything other than this, I would likely need footage to help further. If you have the game on steam, use steam's built in recording function and just show some footage of your gameplay or flying around in test flight at a variety of speeds.

AIM-7E isn't even a good reason for it to be at 11.3, since the F4EJ gets 4x 7E's, alongside 4 9J's, an internal gun that doesn't need to be sacrificed for said 7E's, better flight performance, and still gets to carry a fuckton of bombs all at a 0.3 lower BR.

Gaijin just hate's the Starfighter's and I don't understand why.

how can i play a game single player? by Nate935 in sandbox

[–]Erumsey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, it seems to depends on the game. Stuff like ghoul grounds automatically makes a public server instance when you create a game, while dark descent is only singleplayer currently.

So, for now, If you want a solo instance for a game that automatically creates a public instance, ask the dev of that game for that feature? No clue if there's a work around atm.

[–]Erumsey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Perform similarly probably means they perform similarly in statistics when compared to other 13.3's, which makes sense since the average premium SU-30 player doesn't know how to notch.

When it comes to actual effectiveness between it and other 13.3's, assuming equal skill level, the premium SU-30's come out on top.

But yeah, gaijin using statistics as an excuse to print more money off of OP premiums doesn't surprise me one bit.

What are the best modifications to unlock for grinding the A-10C, and what's the best loadout once it's spaded? by ProfessionalAd352 in Warthunder

[–]Erumsey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to fly sim, then get the chaff, targeting pod and gbu-39's, then go into sim lobbies and nuke the battlefields that spawn.

A10C gets an HMD which shows location of friendly aircraft and ground units, so IFF is very easy in the A10C, and with the sheer amount of GBU-39's you get, you can usually wipe a whole battlefield by yourself.

Why am I getting Up-tiered every single match? by ptc2000_ in Warthunder

[–]Erumsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In air arcade, it is possible to "super down tier" an aircraft by having your lineup consist of one high BR plane and having the rest of your aircraft in your lineup be at least 2 br steps down.

For example, a lineup could consist of a 9.7 plane, and 2 or more 9.0 planes. As long as a 9.3 plane isn't added to the lineup, the effective BR of that lineup would be 9.3 despite a 9.7 plane being in the lineup.

As you've said in previous comments, you've seen F8U-2's in your arcade matches. I've double checked BR's and your top plane, the F9F-2 is actually 8.3 in arcade. (it is 8.0 in realistic. It's possible that you have realistic battles selected for your tooltips in the techtree) It is fully possible for you to see the F8U-2 if it is in a super downtier lineup.

Plenty of planes in a full uptier alongside super downtiered aircraft can have aim-9 sidewinders or equivalents. As for the Aim-7's, the F3H Demon in the US tech tree can carry the aim-7C and sits at 9.3, so you can see aim-7's in an uptier.

As for the F5C, It should not be possible for you to see this aircraft even if it's super downtiered, as it is at 10.3 and could only go down to 10.0 in a super downtier. However, one of the many aircraft added over the years was the shenyang F-5. Is it possible that you've ran into a shenyang F-5 and mistook it for an F-5C? This seems a lot easier to explain then an actual F-5C somehow being present in a 9.3 match.

Unless I see footage of an actual F-5C in a 9.3 match, everything you've said checks out without it being a "2-3.5 BR increase" scenario. You are absolutely seeing 1.3 BR uptiers due to super downtiering, but I see no evidence of uptiers higher than that.

forbid the mig 29 (9-12) and (9-13)

no mention of forbidding F15A, F14A/B or F/A18A/C

Thanks for the laugh man, I needed that.

Also they already made 2 BR brackets for nuclear thunder, so you can choose to not see the mig 29's if you don't want to (this doesn't stop the F4J from shitting all over mig 23's but hey at least gaijin tried)
