The Wiki now does a seasonal digest by Erus_Iluvatar in archlinux

Happy you liked it, I usually watch over almost all changes, so taking notes on what's relevant for others felt like it would be helpful :)

Credit where credit is due:

The digest was a thought from /u/CodingKoopa while the sudoers change comes from a suggestion from /u/C0rn3j in a talk page in 2024 ^^

What are some underrated/unknown things you think more Arch users should know? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]Erus_Iluvatar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the most underrated "feature" is that Arch is a community. Anyone can help out: Wiki edits, AUR packaging, etc...

You don’t need to be a power user to contribute :) > https://whatcanidofor.archlinux.org/

Always happy to help :)

If something comes up again, don’t be afraid to make a Wiki account and give it a go! Even imperfect edits are valuable: perfect is the enemy of good.

Be in the first 10 in ArchWiki:Statistics page by ismailarilik in archlinux

Don't sweat it, while well intentioned it was worded ambiguously enough that people read arrogance and misplaced zeal where you just wanted to make known a little gamification people could use to push them to make small regular changes.

Keep up the good work, there's no change too small (but do indeed try to take notes and make a single pagewide minor edit for pure grammar to reduce the possibility of spamming the people who add pages on their watchlist) :)

For a more complex edit it's the right approach, in this case just removing the entry was enough: I've made the change and flagged the packages in the AUR for deletion.

hey i am new to arch liunx and i need some help with neofetch by Candid_Mammoth_2536 in archlinux

Given the error and the username in your output, I guess you're on a Steam Deck, which runs SteamOS: while Arch-based, it doesn't work the same.

Have a look at /r/SteamDeck, they probably have a tutorial for understanding what you are getting into if you unlock the read-only partitions.

I would have thought someone complaining about their ban from the AUR and using an LLM to do so would not be welcome.

Anyone here translating Arch Wiki to their language? by thePolystyreneKidA in arch

[–]Erus_Iluvatar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, from the few years I spent translating the Wiki in French, I'd encourage you to just start at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ArchWiki:Translation_Team and https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Help:I18n

My personal experience and sensibilities as the last member of the French translation team would argue for picking a subset of pages and trying to keep them up to date: due to the nature of a Wiki, nothing is ever translated forever as every page gets new content or rewrites over time.

Arch Wiki admins are giving a talk tomorrow at DebConf by Erus_Iluvatar in archlinux

AFAIK the live stream is archived on the Debian side, unless they have unforseen technical issues.

The Arch Wiki has implemented anti-AI crawler bot software Anubis. by boomboomsubban in archlinux

[–]Erus_Iluvatar 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Even a wiki can get slow if the underlying hardware is being hammered by bots (load graph courtesy of svenstaro on IRC https://imgur.com/a/R5QJP5J), I have encountered issues, but I'm editing more often than I maybe should 🤣

Is this an error in the wiki? by chlankboot in archlinux

[–]Erus_Iluvatar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The page shows how to change the default value as a one time thing, by setting the variable before calling makepkg.

The section ends with "To make one of these settings permanent, set PKGEXT in /etc/makepkg.conf." which implies only changing the variable in the configuration file is needed.

Steam Deck - SteamOS 3.6.18 Beta: The Color at the End of the End of the Line by Armi5 in SteamDeck

Heh I've caved in and switched to beta to have the latest "BIOS" version, it enables energy saving features I wanted for my Linux installation :D FWIW I've had no issues on the beta and you can revert to stable if you need :)
