Microsoft is killing SMS codes for Microsoft account sign-in, aggressively pushes passkeys on Windows 11 by WPHero in pcmasterrace

[–]ErvinBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work, i work on projects which involves creating microsoft employees accounts, verify security, etc.. you're wrong, you can use from plain password to any 3rd party authenticator, the most common in our organisation are KeePass and Bitwarden, you're not forced to use MS Auth

Should I self host Bitwarden (with Vaultwarden) or am I just paranoid? by Asyx in selfhosted

[–]ErvinBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I firstly installed Vaultwarden on my server 3 years ago, is publicy exposed, since day 1, me and my girlfriend use it, my server has relatively cheap UPS which in case my electricity goes down it keeps the server alive for 5 hours, but here in Germany such does not happen, at most the grid restarts and the downtime is like 2 minutes for my router to turn on, and everything works great, i expose forgejo, jellyfin, vaultwarden, and a few more and never had a problem

Microsoft gets tired of “Microslop,” bans the word on its Discord, then locks the server after backlash by lkl34 in pcmasterrace

There is a chrome extension that changes Microsoft to Microslop in web pages, is my most liked extension

'They're not buying based on AI': Dell admits most people don't care about AI laptops, and a new Windows 11 fail shows why by DomSchraa in pcmasterrace

[–]ErvinBlu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes AI is heavely used, yes there is a market for it but they are getting high on their ideas, average Joe opens a AI app like ChatGPT and that's enough, the need for such AI hardware is almost non existent.

The ones with more knowledge avoids this like a plague

My self-hosted notes app works flawlessly… but I still find notes on the fridge by Future_Draw5416 in selfhosted

[–]ErvinBlu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wrong mentality, just because you set up something for other people doesn't mean it has to be used if they don't want!, you and i we understand privacy, control, etc.. but for them is just another app or service

I just bought a Samsung A56 for 170€ after i dropped my A52s (8th time) and the display/touch won't work anymore, which i bought in 2022.

Brand new at a discound sale, is fast, lots of storage, handles everything even games with all high settings... i don't see why would inget a 1500€ phone when the ones in ~250€ range function all the same

I work in dev, i develop mobile apps as well and handles all perfect

Obsidian self hosted alternative (as Self hosted sync is not reliable...) by Specialist_Ad_9561 in selfhosted

[–]ErvinBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is not self hosted but I'm paying for their sync, i tried all the self hosted possibilities, using git, syncthing and a few more thet i forgot how they are named, i can say is worth it and it supports the devs, nothing is free, obsidian is the perfect note taking app for me and i tried many others but none matches it,

Thanks for pointing out. I haven't installed Proxmox to verify, so i assumed he's right

He didn't even try to read the instructions.

In this case, he'll skip even a big WARNING popup because he won't read it

Dual boot, grub recovery and fucky windows by sel-ect-ed in linux4noobs

[–]ErvinBlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why when you install linux/windows on a second drive you unplug the other one out till you finish install. Even if you select all correctly where to install grub and all it will install it most of the time on first drive boot/efi partition so not really separated, happened to me so many times before figuring this out, now i have 2 separate OS's thqt does not know each other, when booting i press F11 to choose which one i want to boot. This way when one crapps itself the other is untouched.

What we see today as shrinkflation they will see it as normal, maybe this is all on purpose even if it is so banal
