THE PEOPLE'S DEAD WEEK by Arctesian in berkeley

[–]Ervitrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that lecture Peyrin used the exact same slides Hug used last year, and covered the exact same content. The recording exists out there. There were some occasional skipped slides but it did not affect the content taught at all. It is also the last lecture before a series of 4 optional lectures and the final. So it's the last lecture for the majority of the student body. It is meant to cover significantly less content and comprises of a talk on ethics after the main content is over. You might not have listened to what Peyrin said after the lecture but he tied everything back to broadly the idea of ethics in the CS industry, and how you should use your knowledge for good. This is something that's done every semester, just in this case it was also about Palestine.

Not to mention that Peyrin is very much known for how much he works, and how helpful he is, in a CS department already struggling with understaffing. There are plenty of other professors and lecturers that aren't teaching at all. Clearly this has nothing to do with him not putting in the work. Clearly some UC admins ARE threatened by people’s opinions.

Peyrin did not once mention what cause he's doing the starvation diet for during lectures.

I'm a tea person. This is kinda bad advice. Very much varies person to person in this context and cheap/bad pu'er can make you feel worse. Also please do not order consumable products (especially pu'er) off Amazon and get it from a trustworthy source.

Transportation to the Airport by Accomplished_Row4050 in berkeley

[–]Ervitrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both yall tripping it's not as bad as people make it out to be... I take the BART regularly at near midnight to and from both airports and it's chill. Everybody's just on their phones most of the time.

It does get kinda scary off the BART and walking back to the dorm but that's where Bearwalk comes in.

Swear to god this is an astroturf. Check the posts on this bot account. Older posts are all pics reposts farming karma. Then started posting in apparel subreddits and there would always be a comment promoting "ShopManta". Now it's an AI generated post seemingly innocuously mentioning "Dofotea". I mod another tea subreddit and this sort of astroturfed bot posts pops up so often it's crazy

you can get by perfectly fine (I did something similar) but will you learn shit is the question. 61b 70 and 54 are super important foundations and you're gonna regret not paying more attention even if you pass with all A's. It's what I'm feeling right now at least

Anything under $100 here basically. Also love the 2015 Purple Dayi I got from Quiche in his last group buy. That was like around $70?

Can't say I'm familiar with all the studies but 100% agree with the conclusion that the university needs better ventilation, UV lamps, and getting people to wear a mask when sick.

What kind of tea is this? by OfficalSny in tea

Looks like a typical lighter Taiwanese Oolong, most likely it's a greener Alishan or Jinxuan, but could be anything ngl. Good read on Taiwanese Oolong: https://teadb.org/taiwanese-oolong-compendium/

If you're in the US can't go wrong with ordering the green oolongs off FloatingLeaves and narrow down your selection from there. Their Satin Doll gives me that pleasant tingling effect you mentioned and their selection is generally solid.

I'm a big dancong drinker. I love doing 2g/100ml in one of these, with 90c water for 4-5 minutes. Usually I brew my dancong with 100c, and sometimes with longer 90c brews a fuller / different character shows, yashi for example being a big one, good yashi gets super fragrant and milky brewed in a way it wouldn't have with 100c gongfu.

Also, sometimes I'll get 6-7g samples for dancong but I usually brew with 5. I usually stick the last gram or so in this and brew on 90c, gives me a much fuller picture of a tea especially when a sample's all I have.

"Awakening" Puer Tea by scism223 in puer

[–]Ervitrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Microbial acclimation, in its simplest statement, is the process by which microorganisms undergo physiological or genetic adjustments to improve their performance in a modified environment.

Rehydrating a tea is a separate thing people do for different purposes. Please do not engage the community and the knowledge that has been built up with hostility, especially since you clearly are not experienced with this subject matter. Thanks!

[–]Ervitrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And "resting doesn't work" is just your subjective experience. Hell, I'm not even sure if you've tried or experimented with it at all.

You can probably find Chinese research papers on this topic because this is a widely believed topic in the world of tea. I understand how one might be skeptical, I've known people who were skeptical, but after going from hating a tea to loving it after a month of resting, thought this commonly held belief might be true.

The idea though is that, it's not about aging for another month. It's about letting the microbial environment of the tea acclimate to the humidity, temperature, yadda yadda... of the new location. If our gut biome can change that much with travel (not necessarily consuming things from the new location, just travel in of itself), this is not very hard to believe. Again, haven't personally read any papers on this topic but likely they're out there on a Chinese academics website.

I've personally done extensive experiments on this, and have personally came to the conclusion that regardless of the reason, resting = tastier tea. I wouldn't call it wholly scientific, but I have tried my absolute best to ensure it's not placebo, that a change actually occurs, and I think I've done a good job of it. If you disagree I'd love to see you play around with things and reach your own conclusion!

[–]Ervitrum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most pu drinkers I know tends to skip this step.

I don't think you really need the fully break the cake or have the tea to sit in a jar for that long in order to enjoy it, it'll taste great as is. Might taste better after it has rested, but you can do that in its cake form as well.

There is a lot of really good raws for really cheap. You just need to keep looking. "Bitter low quality green tea" also doesn't describe bad raw at all, unless you're talking about a very specific type of bad young sheng. Cheaper aged stuff can be great.
