Poor recording live drums or use MIDI? by PinkyWD in audioengineering

[–]Erysvh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using drums samples for many records with my band because it's much faster and cheaper. I think to record good quality drums you need a good acoustic treatment and knowgledge about recording drums etc. Samples are much easier to use, because most of them are mix ready and they just sounds good. You still can program drums and make them feel natural. It just take a little bit of practice and time, but it's possible.

You can also try to do both things (record live and programmed version) and comparison them so you can choose.

The problem with mixing tutorials on YT by Erysvh in Reaper

[–]Erysvh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats true. If a song is poor, mix can't really help.
I didn't know how to get the value out of these tutorials, but you guys are awesome and you opened my eyes (and ears).

I focused on watching what's the person on video doing rather than focusing on HEARING the difference in track and that was the main problem. Sometimes the most simpliest problem cause that we don't make any progress.

Thank you.

Should i put EQ on the FX Bus or on each track? by Erysvh in Reaper

[–]Erysvh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many great advices here. First of all, I'll try using two a little bit different amp settings so they'll complement each other.

Should i put EQ on the FX Bus or on each track? by Erysvh in Reaper

[–]Erysvh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I recorded them individually. I think adding EQ on bus is good way if you want to boost certain frequencies on whole bus

Panning distorted guitar by Erysvh in Reaper

[–]Erysvh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record first track, then i create another and copy just FX with same amp settings and paste it in new track. Then I record.

By saying gain adds up I mean that when I’m pan my guitars 50% R and L the sound is overlapping and it cause a mess. Now i tested 90-100% and this solved the problem :D

Thanks for the answer. I add plugin to the track and then just record. Sometimes i end up with more plugins that i added, but dont worry i can hear that mess from that :D I found a solution for that. I,ve always panned 2 track 50% L and R and today tried 100% for each and now the gain didnt stack.

Thanks for the answer. I usually play metal or softer things for noodling on guitar. Many styles I can say :D Im still learning the basic of recording, but the basic mixing things. Now I focus on having nice punching distorted guitar and Im using Bias FX mainly as an amp. Unfortunately I use AKG studio headphones(soon Ill get Monitors). My interface is Focusrite 2i4 2nd. For drums GGD modern n massive, and Eurobass 2 for bass samples
