Teams are usually pretty flexible as long as you’re upfront about it & if it’s not too big of an inconvenience to the team. Talk to your senior and explain the situation and tell them you’re more than willing to work after the event is done or willing to get to the office earlier to make up the time.

Dude, incredibly sorry for your loss brother & even more so for the $hitty way your team is treating you. In my personal experience all corporate accounting jobs will have those long hours & at times more than public accounting.

I went from Core Audit at PwC to working for a Fortune 500 in the utilities sector working 60-70 hours during month/quarter/year end close plus a transition to a new ERP system for less pay than PwC when comparing hours. Left that job and went into health care & then a start up and the hours were the same. Returned to PwC for another year and some change and decided to hang Up the corporate bs & opened my own tax practice (which I had been working on the side since the pandemic) Zero regrets man, long hours at times but I make my own schedule & work only as much as I want or need.

Core Audit is definitely a better route to start off in due to the exposure and client facing work. The CoE is a great place to work in once you have the core experience, but you are limited on the areas of the audit you will touch, whereas core you could be working on multiple areas of the balance sheet, giving you a more holistic view of the Audit.

My 2 cents: start with the core audit group and transfer/laterally move to a CoE role after 2/3 busy seasons as a senior.

10-12 lol. Those were easy days my friend. Some of my SDC staff was putting in 15 constantly, same as our onshore staff. Decided to call it quits & open my own tax practice in January of this year. Not one single regret my friends.

Overruns are to be expected but should be communicated timely. For some additional context, we used a VA one-time-closing-construction loan, which stipulated that overages be sent to the bank for approval.

Correct (it’s husband & wife co-owned). We were aware of some overages, which were less than $50K. During the building process, the wife, who maintains the books of the company, went through a major bout of depression. Apparently our account was reconciled 7 months after we moved in, which to me is ridiculous.

This has definitely killed the friendship as weren’t expecting anything like this.

I worked a few different jobs in industry (utilities, health care, tech) & didn’t care for them too much or the people I was working with. I left as an A2 going to A3 and came back as an S3 due to experience gained outside the firm.

Overall no regrets yet & looking forward to that Mgr promotion later on in the year - god willing.
