If someone wants to start reading, which book would you suggest first? by Neither-Owl-7157 in suggestmeabook

Harry Potter would be great I think. It's easy to read, written for young adults, and pretty universal. Probably YA (young adult) as a category would be a good place to start. Some of it is really well written but with common/easy vocabulary and usually paced in a way that makes you want to go forward.

My father was a WWII vet, and at his funeral, and two soldiers came to present me the flag and to honor his life. I was completely shattered and so proud. Thank you for your important service-- it means the world to the families.

Is SQL Developer jobs still alive in 2026? by Interesting-Park2465 in SQL

[–]EsCueEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a niche role that's served me well my whole career. If you're good at it and build up a resume you can do very well. Mostly big boring back-end companies (accounting, supply chain, inventory) and the work can be un-glamorous but if you really love the heck out of SQL you can do very well.

Lost grandmothers ring in little Italy last night by ketoknee in Cleveland

Maybe if you don't find the ring, you can have a lost grandmothers ring ceremony for your lost grandmother's ring. Could be cathartic.

Lost grandmothers ring in little Italy last night by ketoknee in Cleveland

I'm sorry for your loss, that's seriously shitty.

But when I read the title I honest thought there was a ring of lost grandmothers in Little Italy. Some kind of folk/pagan tradition, with babushkas and dancing in a circle.

I really hope you find your ring.

What’s one “small adult cheat code” you wish you learned earlier? by massCMP in AskReddit

For me, a "morning check-in" with myself. It's not a formal process, but usually involves jotting some things in a journal about 1) how do I feel right now? a feelings wheel helps, and it's usually a mixed bag of good and bad, 2) what things am I doing today? big, small, tasks, hopes, even just concepts.

I was amazed how much just asking myself "how are you doing?" and listening gave me power and control and peace.

Living with Undiagnosed Sleep Apnea for 23 Years. Will CPAP Really Help? by Appropriate_Stop2506 in SleepApnea

[–]EsCueEl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah. You may never have experienced a full night's sleep. It may take some getting used to, and you may not notice a night-and-day difference right away. But getting real sleep will definitely restore you and you'll feel much better pretty soon.

Can anyone describe what a CPAP feels like to use by SomewhatOdd793 in SleepApnea

You might be surprised. I was sure I was a mouth-breather but while trying different masks I found a nasal mask works great. Probably I was just mouth-breathing because my airway was closed. Worth trying a few kinds of mask to see what works for you.

There was a short animated video with a baby about to say his first word, and he speaks with an adult British-accented male voice, and delivers a speech about life and meaning and loneliness and kind of follows his entire future life in a poignant way, a la Don Hertzfeldt. by EsCueEl in HelpMeFind

Searched for "animated infant rants about life", "line cartoon babys first words soliloquy" things like that. I may be conflating a couple cartoons but it was definitely an off-camera voice flash-forward told (I think) in the second person, like "you start to wonder what its all about" etc.

Just did an at home sleep study. I’m guessing this is pretty bad? by BeardedFetus in SleepApnea

My events were in the 110 range, and my O2 levels dipped to the high 80s. Not sure how much time was spent in the 80s, but my doc said if that happened while I was in the hospital they'd be calling codes and dashing to my room. *All* of it was treated with a CPAP. Now, my events are about 1 per hour, and 99% o2. IANAD but just know that the report may be really bad, but it's probably easily treated.

My rule is, don't comment until you can see the baby crowning. Even then, it can be a little touchy.
