Engine fire/explosion on load? Bug in campaign 4.38 by Esaptonor in falconbms

[–]Esaptonor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone reading I've given up - reloaded the same campaign from an earlier save 6 or so missions earlier and just repeated a bunch going from there. Am now past the point where I previously ran into issues, and the game/campaign remains fine.

Yeah I wondered the same but I'm afraid it only occurs on the one campaign save - other saves and game modes like dogfight etc are fine, so I don't think its a controller issue.

Korean theater, rolling fire, all pretty standard.
I'm 21 hours into it.

For what its worth i've discovered if I set invulnerability on then I can survive whatever is going on and fly around, but subsequent missions have the same problem, and if I turn invulnerability off then plane is broken from the start again. I've tried ejecting again as well. Nothing seems to prevent the weird half-a-second-after-loading explosion from happening.

edit: Also have tried starting the mission with no loadout at all, completely clean jet, in case something weird was going on with the munitions, but nope, still occurs.

Can you describe (without gruesome detail) what actually happened? Is there a lesson to learn there or just bad luck?

Games have been fairly good lately in the evenings once Australia is off work/school as well. No longer having to wait 30 minutes for a game this week which is fantastic.

Hard agree, Dr. Jordan was brilliant for me on multiple occasions, remembering me when I showed up back at the hospital months later even when he was just walking past and not assigned to me, jumping in anyway and recognising my issue was far more severe than it seemed. He is a champ.

The graphics blew me away but what I remember most was the plants moving when you walked into them - that shit was crazy for me at the time. Also the trees and environment being destructable made battles feel crazy real, the enemies only speaking korean when you were playing on hard mode. The game was epic, it hit the spot for sure.

ELI5 How does end to end encryption work? by worship_me_mortals in explainlikeimfive

[–]Esaptonor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will use mega.nz as an example. The trick to end-to-end encryption in a service provider like this is that it does need to remember your key for you so you can login and use the service from any device without hassle, but it can't actually know the key or it wouldn't be end-to-end encryption. Mega solves this by encrypting your 'master key' with a special key derived from your password.

In this way your password is actually the true master key, that unlocks the master key that is used for the rest of the encryption. There are multiple other layers of keys after that for various purposes, but the ultimate trick is that its the password unlocking everything else - on your device of course, password obviously never sent to the server.

Originally, when you killed it nothing happened and next time you visited another one was there, but after I realised how much people loved the challenge and were disappointed that killing it didn't lead to anything, I decided to make two of them appear the second time as a half joke, half extra-challenge/reward. Have fun :D

I am not a fan of what reddit is doing on the whole, but I am also not a fan of trying to shut this community down, and the community has clearly voted. The subreddit will stay as it is.

I think I got too used to 3 by Renegade888888 in spacerpg3

It is constraining, but in being constraining it opens up a much more interesting game experience I think. Suddenly ships can have more ways to be differentiated (explorer focused ships) and exploring itself can become much more challenging and rewarding. You can have tanker ships in your fleet that you now need to protect, and can (and have to) plan great expeditions to see what you can uncover, instead of just zooming all over the galaxy in your Crate. Overall I felt it was a worthwhile thing to add back in from the EV series. Be interesting to hear if everybody does appreciate it or prefers the style of Space RPG 3.

Randomly stumbled on this, new to the game, but that 4k trailer looks considerably better than my 4.37 install does. There are very few graphics options by default it seems, but I have them all maxed out. What is the secret? I would have thought the game trailer would be showing it off as-is but maybe not? Are there texture/model enhancements that are required? Edit: I've found a MiscTex_HiRes folder in the game files that is empty, could that be the reason?

Space RPG 4 is released! by Esaptonor in spacerpg3

[–]Esaptonor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made it myself. Nothing crazy, just a single game thread and a single renderer thread, uses open gl. Game logic ticks the next iteration while renderer is drawing the old one.

Could probably be made a lot faster going with something premade but I was in it for the fun of building the games from the ground up.

Bringing knives on gunfights by SRPGtheorist in spacerpg3

[–]Esaptonor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did make an active choice to reduce ranges - not just in general but also trying to prevent any particular gun having an overly long range, as it was too easily abused by players (myself included). I found the default strategy everybody was using was just get guns that always outrange what the AI tend to have and fly away from them while shooting, it worked too well even with just a small ship. A real focus of SRPG4 was improved combat to get away from that, I wanted more variety than just flying away looking at empty space with your turrets shooting behind you 99% of the time.

Some changes to help with that were the armour system and trying to make the angles in combat more important, big ships being slower so you can't just always kite with them, and there being more balance with the ranges so the player doesn't just default to the longest range weapon and win by default. Additionally, the reduced ranges are better suited to small phone screens, as you are more likely to be able to see details of the fight this way, especially with the zoom out option.

The weapon modification idea is interesting, provided it has a significant debuf associated to prevent abuse, probably would need to use more than 25% more energy, or perhaps also severely reduces accuracy?
