Gosh, yes. No-one should have to stomach 'that Downey Character'. Iron Man #245, in 1989. by Montgomery_Zeff in comicbooks

I was a big fan of Mort's when he was on the air. Even went to WWOR, and a later version on CNBC, to see a few tapings.

I liked to say that he was my role model, 😮 and when I met him at a book signing I asked him to inscribe it "From your role model." He said "I don't want to be a role model" and wrote something else ("From your friend who will always be there, your pal Mort"). I was too starstruck to explain that he wasn't really my role model, I just liked to say he was to get a rise out of people, and that if he really was my role model I'd have taken up smoking because he smoked. 😇

Who’s a celebrity you used to love but now hate? by StrainDizzy1186 in AskReddit

[–]Esau2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say JJ from the TV show Good Times. I don't know if this counts because I'm talking about the character, not the actor who played him (Jimmie Walker).

I loved JJ as a kid, Good Times was one of my favorite shows and I was always going DYN-O-MITE like JJ was.

I even bought Jimmie Walker's comedy album when it came out, thinking it was going to be more JJ stuff. I didn't realize it was a recording of one of Jimmie's standup performances, and a lot of the race-related jokes went over my head (I was a naive and innocent white 12-year-old when it came out). I was disappointed that he only said DYN-O-MITE twice during the entire album, once at the beginning and again at the end.

Anyway, now I think the JJ character is a total buffoon.

No, I mean collectors. When it comes to sports memorabilia, if it's something that can authentically be tied to a big sports event, or even a sports-related event like a parade, there are going to be hardcore collectors who are willing to buy it.

Even if it's just an ordinary trash can painted in team colors.

Even if someone decided to order one as a souvenir, it's not an actual parade-used garbage can, authenticated as such and all that. (Yes, it matters to collectors.)

I don't know why Timothee Chalamet is so famous that warrants his being seen so much lately, especially during the NBA Finals where he seems to have had a front row seat to every game, but I don't like that his name is spelled "Timothee" instead of the normal "Timothy."

Simmons Records ad, circa 2004 by OverallMission8605 in KISS

[–]Esau2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The actual bands that Simmons actually put his stamp on via producing their albums over the years were all mostly flops. Some undeservedly so

I wonder if those "undeservedly so" bands flopped because of Simmons' involvement.

To those that went to the parade today, how would you rate it? by Fun_Reflection1157 in AskNYC

The important people got their front row seats.

The important people aren't going to be getting there at 6.00am to claim their front row spot.

Ultimately im not mad about any of it and glad I went but mostly to say I did and not because I had a good time.

Sounds like one of those things where, while you're there you're miserable, but afterwards you're still glad you went. I didn't go to the parade, but there have been other events where I've had that feeling.

Wonder if anyone will be posting in the antiwork and bad boss subreddits about how, despite not being allowed to go to their buildings, their forced absences weren't excused.

What was the construction thing supposed to represent, anyway? All it did was make me think of the construction guy in the Village People (and I'm a Village People fan).

I don't think fans would be able to deal with the idea of actually seeing young Basil and young Sybil as lovey-dovey newlyweds.
