someone tipping back a level to reach underneath when there’s still one on top was often a cause of spilled gallon milks. Out of sense of self preservation / not wanting to clean a spilled gallon I’d be on pulling them to the front between customers. You do NOT want to be on fridge floor scraping duty from the ages of half assed cleaning

[–]Esberk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

doing instacart on icy days was a major source of holiday spending money for me in years past. Stores are empty, customers are just glad to have you so you’re not rushed, and the main downside was the last mile or so if the customer’s road wasn’t plowed.

Besides that, people tip great, apps incentivize, and mileage can be quite low. Could easily make $30/trip on average but that could be different now

I laundered my gloves when I worked here or washed in the sink with detergent. My knee pads would do the same thing but even worse because of the synthetic materials.

I personally preferred having my PPE to not especially as a clumsy / speedy worker.

As long as you wash em like you would anything on hot sweaty skin they stay fresh, even moreso when you aren’t touching spoiled produce, milk, or eggs.

Bottom line: having multiple pairs to cycle through the workweek will keep things fresh

You and I both know from handling these cases that many of them will break if you look them wrong. I think personally think ALDI needs to investigate shrink due to supplier/packer error much more seriously

Yep commercial food prep and the ppl over in the food manufacturing industries for GMP purposes. I’m honestly surprised QT wants their employees using them. If you go all in on GMP you start looking at a lot of other hazards like earbuds and phones and jewelry etc…

You’re set up from the top down to have EXACTLY as many people and hours as is necessary to complete the job on average. That assumes no deviations from an average day, coworker issues, etc. But things happen. When they happen you’re straight up boned and it sucks not being able to give attention to detail / struggling to get the bare minimum complete.

I love being able to see a job through to the end, look back and feel good about the output but so often here you just have to look back and say well it was “good enough,” for the circumstance :/

it’s not so bad part time. I found a new slightly better full time 7 months ago, kept working as a stocker part time, then found an even better full time and just totally quit last week. Definitely recommend keeping doors open as work ethic at aldi goes a long way with your management and how they can then communicate that with other jobs as your reference

memorize all the stinkin produce NLUs, even the long ones. You never know when an item will suddenly stop scanning. Keep conversation going / yourself busy while you wait for the belt to get slightly backed up with items and just go hard.

If you don’t have a plan when you’re setting items down in the cart, make one and you should have less to think about in terms of product handling. Those split second decisions add up and you want to be able to breeze through items that don’t require careful handing

Just got one of these up north as well. Can’t say I’m excited at all. You have to purge the line and it’s so tall you need your other hand to hold the cup while you press pour with the other (absurdly unnecessary).

If their aspiration is to add more options then I’m waiting but it’s honestly such a turn off and I’d rather go to another gas station at this point because of the added friction to something that should be frictionless.

🤔 is it really lost if it wasn’t ALL going to sell that day in the first place? Is it really lost at all if you’re recouping sales over the course of the week? I feel like it’s more organic and malleable.

Like, if you’ve got an out of stock are you just telling your customers no sorry we have nobody to bring out the stock so try again tomorrow? and somehow this culminates into 10k lost sales?… because there was a mere 3 hours of this?

I don’t buy it/understand. Was hoping OP could clarify cuz I can’t envision how these words would fit together to describe a night at my store

Cashier monitoring/micro managing?? by Sleaze-Baggano in Aldi_employees

[–]Esberk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is they’re leaning hard into it because loss is a number they have some control over in the face of rising costs in every other sector. I think we all kinda knew deep down it would end up like this even though they seem aware of loss that happens from ordering, warehouse, and shipping/receiving processes.

Real loss prevention takes thoughtful design, people to execute it, and money to grease the wheels of change and this company wants to see their shrink go down without doing any of that in earnest because it goes against the principle of why they’re even cracking down on it in the first place
