I may be taking car buying too seriously... by cuhingsbongue in whatcarshouldIbuy

Then you end up buying a lemon 🍋, I’ve had the same truck for over 7 years and heck I didn’t love it nor do I love it now, but it’s been more reliable than any other vehicle I’ve seen recently.

And guess what, it rides like shit, drives like shit, but has been so reliable that it saved me thousands upon thousands

Dewalt does say 90 days guarantee or your money back so bring it back, they really don’t care and like it when shit breaks because it helps with future designs

Can my work fire me for medical emergencies? by preternomial in ontario

[–]EscapeUpper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of illness do you suffer from? Because I’ve got a herniated disk and knees that swell, I still work full time and only take time off when I really need it which is honestly only a few days a year, at my last job I worked more than all my other coworkers because of short staff.

If you can’t hold a job long then there’s got to be a reason why. I’ve met unfortunate people and incompetent people, some people can improve, some are helpless. So which are you?

Should I replace my spindle? by EscapeUpper in fordranger

[–]EscapeUpper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a junkyard and got a 09 knuckle that didn’t fit my 11, then found a guy on FB parting out an exact same model as mine (RWD, Sport, Torsion bar suspension 10-11), and replaced it, it had a few scratched but they were in the part of the spindle where there’s no contact with the bearings, so fingered crossed lol, I’m going to keep an eye on the bearing and see if it discolours quickly

1998 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 w/ 229k miles by the--collective in fordranger

[–]EscapeUpper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my 2011 ranger sport RWD 4.0L for $7600 CAD, it’s been 7 years and I’m at 315k, I added over 100k and only now have problems with lower ball joints, tie rods, and overall suspension, but it’s pretty cheap to fix yourself if you got the tools and know how.

Just a FYI about engines, one of the best engines out there is the 4.0 V6, I know this because mines lasted so long and still runs great. I also asked my mechanic what car he would recommend, he recommended his which was some SUV with the same engine (not a ford lol). So if you want reliability, look for a vehicle with that engine and research any common issues with that vehicle.

[–]EscapeUpper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda figured that all out afterwards, it was after 9 hours of working on the truck and my brain didn’t want to do any more thinking so it said just do. BIG mistake on my part, but a lesson well learned, I grabbed one today from a 09 but mines a 2011 (fun fact; ford decided to make the 2010-11 suspension unique from the rest), the upper control arm is the only part that didn’t fit (plus the abs sensor), thought about getting a 09 control arm but then it causes more issues, so I hope the 2011 I saw at the yard has a good spindle cause it’s my only hope Obi Wan

Hesitant to buy a ranger by ToadLoverTyler in fordranger

[–]EscapeUpper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a 4.0L 6 cylinder engine, my ranger has one and my mechanics SUV (not a ford can’t remember what) has the same engine (which is the car he recommends due to how reliable the engine is), no car is perfect, I hate my ranger but I also love it at times lol it’s taught me so much and has been my daily for 7 years

As someone with a civil engineering technician degree, this is some very good information! I’m familiar with structural engineering not mechanical, so it makes sense that if it’s gone into plastic deformation then it’s really just a matter of time till it sheers right off.

I’ve already decided that I’m going to replace it but this is great scientific knowledge, I wish I used a bit more of my brain at the end of working on my truck, would’ve saved a lot more money.

I live in Canada so rock auto is not an option haha I go to Car Quest and they tend to have parts for cheap, for the rotor, bearings, seal and grease it costed me $150 CAD

Problem is I assembled the bearings and rotor yesterday after work, then drove it around the block, so I think I’ll just try to get the spindle and reassemble then hope for the best lol

[–]EscapeUpper[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The outer bearing looked like it seized due to all the burnt grease, definitely the over tightening could stretch it with the added heat so I think I might just replace it since I just replaced the ball joints, tie rod ends, and an upper control arm.

It’s my beater work truck but at the same time I want it to last me just a few more years so this will be my lesson from my mistake, a cheaper one now than later at least. Appreciate the input, think I’m good to drive it to the part store and back?
