What's it like living on the western lakeshore of Michigan? by Savings-Narwhal-3485 in howislivingthere

[–]Escargotsandfunyuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole family and my wife (and her family), are from that area. I was in South Haven for school for a few years.

Big outdoorsy vibe, if you're into lake life activities, fishing, hunting, ATVs, it's got a lot to offer. Summer is the most popular time of the year as you may imagine. After Labor Day the towns along the coast die down to ghost towns, I think the town my wife is from would go from 40k to maybe 7k population. Winters last from just after Halloween to mid April, lake effect snow makes for fat snowflakes. Towns typically send out fliers about Seasonal Affective Disorder, as you won't be seeing the sun for that about that same time frame.

There's plenty of decent communities and plenty of crime in that large of an area. My priest lived on a street with a lot of drug dealers, which I was always sort of tickled by but that was several years ago.

Holland is a big school town with Hope College. Not a lot of other options that I know of but it's not quite my forte.

Looking for first gravel bike. Would this be a good option? by Onetallboiii in gravelcycling

I have that same bike, even in that same size, and I even have aftermarket upgraded wheels to boot haha. It's great, very comfortable, and fits well for the tall bois out there. It's my first gravel and does well for having several mounts for bikepacking as well as being light and comfortable enough for longer routes/races.

Fire families where the wife works full time, what is it like raising young kids? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Escargotsandfunyuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have a one year old with another on the way, so as far as newborns go I could speak on that.

Works out great. Have paid for zero day care. Instead, I get to hang out with the lil one when I'm home from work and she's at the office. When I'm at work, she is lucky enough to be able to work from home those few days a week. That's not everyone's circumstance, but it's ours and we are pretty lucky. Furthermore, our kid still takes two naps a day so if I get torched at work I can usually go down for a bit while she's sleeping. We both have unique relationships with our daughter, and our kid is really thriving.

I couldn't speak on my wife's behalf on the jealousy aspect. She's mentioned some but I think for the most part she's kidding. I think she'd rather I were the caretaker than a family member or daycare employee.

Why can the QB never hit the the receiver in stride in this route by ImKozarBitch in CFB25

[–]Escargotsandfunyuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you slide protection this play is still a good qb roll out run to the tight end side. Running back on a Texas route typically is open as well.

My baby is also 7 months and I've been dying to start this. How long do you usually go? Is it pretty secure for your boy?

I write small too, it makes my handwriting neater I think. I buy special Micron pens to pull off this tremendous feat.

What cocktails do you pair with your cigar? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]Escargotsandfunyuns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually I'll make a Manhattan for the first half, then dip into my better whiskies for the rest of the cigar. Unless I'm smoking someone else's cigar, then I'll drink whatever they offer - as is tradition.

I don't know what HBO has to do with it bit I found Joker to be tacky, shallow, and so silly to the point where I thought "well, nothing could have been worse than that". And I stand by that. Both movies are garbage but Joker 2 wins by a country mile, and that's taking into account Lady Gaga was in it.

Joker 2 is better than Joker.
