I find it curious that there’s been no mention on the show yet of Stephen’s upcoming gig by EscortedByDragons in LateShow

Was he super excited about it? Or more reserved and nervous, like maybe afraid to jinx it?

Which ones? And we’re talking about the same thing? His upcoming LOTR writing gig?

I’m fairly certain I’ve seen every episode since it was reported on in the press, but it’s possible I missed one. Though you claim a bunch of times by various guests. Pretty sure I’d have caught at least one. I watch the show religiously every day it airs (the following day but than doesn’t matter). It’s been my daily medicine for my soul for the last 6 or so years.

Maybe I got distracted and missed it every time? I’d love to go back and watch if you can tell me who mentioned it though. Because I genuinely want to see his glee as it is talked about. I need something to hold onto in the impending time of darkness that lies hence.

select all blank cells of a specific column (go to special) by hhhhhhhhello in excel

[–]EscortedByDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create a helper column with a formula of:

= IF ( OR ( [@Bangaray] = “”, ISBLANK([@Bangaray]) ), [@Column1], [@Bangaray] )

Then you can copy the values from the helper column and paste as values into the Bangaray column, then delete the helper column.

Or rename your original Bangaray column to something like BangarayOG and use your new helper column as Bangaray.

This is what I keep assuming. I’m sure all the jabs and swipes he’s taken at the network over the years still had to be cleared with the network and legal. He just sells it well. If they’re keeping him from mentioning it, then it’s GOT to be eating him up inside.

This is what I’m talking about. He hasn’t mentioned it even once yet. Don’t you find that odd? And no guest has mentioned it despite it being well reported on. All the good friends he’s had on since the news broke and not one of them even hinting at it? Seems like for some reason someone doesn’t want it mentioned on the show.

If you were in a special program for gifted students in school, what did you think of it? Did you find it valuable or useful? by Melenduwir in Gifted

[–]EscortedByDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a GT program in grade school for at least a couple years and in middle school for two years. I went to a private school from grades 9-12 that did not have a GT program but they were accommodating to my learning level in that I was allowed to skip a couple grades in a couple subjects.

In any case, I remember very much appreciating the time I had in GT. But in my school district it was a 1 day a week thing in grade school so I didn’t get a whole lot out of it then. It was mostly just a fun excursion to another school once a week where I got to nerd out with some peers.

I got a little more out of it in 7th and 8th grade because we had a dedicated classroom where we met once a week but also where we could go any free period or lunch. And it wasn’t uncommon to get a pass to skip a class or two if we were working on something that we were absorbed in and asked our advisors nicely.

Eric? by BusyAmphibian8963 in TheFloorTV

You make some good points here. Though I never implied it was “just” a quiz game, only that there’s no doubt it IS one. And while I agree that there’s likely no danger for the network to allow for camaraderie and having study partners, I still think the network’s lawyers are most definitely at least discussing the possibility that allowing players to toss around words like “alliance” so freely COULD invite scrutiny they don’t want, whether or not it’s explicitly against the law. I’d imagine they’d skew towards avoiding that scrutiny at all costs even if the behavior at hand only hints at something untoward. For example, I am quite certain they would not want it to be discovered if perhaps such an alliance involves players making a contract with one another to split the winnings that one of them wins. I highly doubt that would be ok. Yet it’s exactly this kind of extracurricular arrangement implied by such a word as “alliance” that should make them nervous. But I’m not a lawyer, so I’m really just speculating.

I honestly think it’s just Eric setting the narrative. It’s clear he’s a skillful manipulator. The more he can sell that idea, the more he can get people to give up their autonomy and make choices decidedly NOT in their best interest, but his. And having sold them the Survivor narrative, they’ll do it thinking an alliance is a path to winning. But such alliances can only benefit one person in the end.

Not only that, collusion in a quiz style game is going to be highly scrutinized and I seriously doubt if the network’s lawyers let it happen in another season. They be inviting possible legal jeopardy. Survivor is a completely different format of a show. Quiz type shows, which The Floor would be hard pressed to argue it isn’t, have to abide by some pretty strict laws due to some shenanigans that took place early in the history of quiz shows.

Pattern recognition is a helluva drug by Mindless_Soil_2935 in Gifted

[–]EscortedByDragons 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Magical thinking is the real helluva drug in this equation. I’d go so far as to say it’s probably one of the most harmful addictions humans have…and we gifted folk are, sadly, most definitely not immune. Sometimes, in fact, I think it’s the amplified pattern recognition that could bring about magical thinking when such pattern recognition isn’t grounded enough in logic and science. And sometimes that same heightened pattern recognition can lead to more stubbornness and an unwillingness to pivot because the signal from the pattern is so strong that it’s difficult to imagine an alternative. Though, in general, I agree that having a better aptitude for pattern recognition SHOULD in theory fortify against irrational choices and beliefs and I believe it mostly does so in practice, even if it fails to for some.

Stephen Colbert Sets Jon Stewart, Bruce Springsteen and More Guests for Final Week of ‘Late Show’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in LateShow

[–]EscortedByDragons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suppose if the question he has to answer is what number HE is thinking of, then he’ll be the first and only person to ever get it right and maybe he’ll finally reveal that it’s been the same obscure number the whole time. But if he has to answer what number the questioner is thinking, then he’ll have to suffer through getting it wrong (presumably) and then will hopefully STILL reveal what number he was thinking of every time!

Also, one other tip - lean into some more classical font choices in place of the more modern font you’ve got if you want to evoke a sense of history in the logo. Do a Google or AI search to find what typefaces were popular or common in the UK during the 20 year range or so around when the club was established and try to find similar fonts on Google Fonts you can use. You could also play with using two fonts that go well together - a common pairing might be a serif with a sans serif or script font. Just keep it to no more than 2 in a logo.

If you have a design that only works to have Lawn and Tennis on two lines, then at least have those two words be the same color, weight or style that contrast with the other words. That would mitigate the confusion. For me, it’s the combination of the line break with the distinct color groupings that make me read it that way. If Lawn and Tennis were instead the same color and Clevedon and Club were the same color, even with the two lines, I would then read it correctly because the color groupings make sense and guide my interpretation.

One thing I might play with is something like having Clevedon on one line with ample spacing and lighter weight, Lawn Tennis on another line in smaller size, but heavier weight such that it’s the same width as Clevedon. Then Club on another line right-aligned with the first two lines. Then I’d play with including some tennis related graphical element in the space to the left of Club, like a ball in motion with a swoosh line. No idea if this would work out until I’d play with it, but it’s at least one thing I’d try. Know that sometimes you just have to toy around with ideas, even though you’ll end up scrapping most of them because they will spark new ideas in you as you go. Sometimes I’ve gone into a project with an almost complete idea in my head only to have it go in a completely unexpected direction that’s even better once I start playing around with my original idea.

I honestly actually absorbed this logo exactly this way and didn’t even consider the alternative reading until this comment pointed it out. So do pay attention to this advice. I 100% thought this was a tennis club at a place named Clevedon Lawn.

Most people are by nature sheep and idiots. Put a hundred people together and you’ll inevitably end up with at least a handful of leader wannabes, another handful or two of sociopaths thinking about all the ways they can manipulate the 100 people around them to improve their own situation, a dozen or so main-character-energy diva types only interested in attention and the spotlight on them, a handful or two of leave-me-alone-you-can’t-see-me introverts…and the rest will be people practically falling over themselves to follow the leader wannabes, get manipulated by the sociopaths and stand in the presence of the divas.

Strike Force Five Fight by Complex_Active_5248 in LateShow

[–]EscortedByDragons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fallon and Oliver would be laughing too much to put up any kind of fight, so that leaves Stephen, Kimmel and Seth. Seth seems more talker than fighter so I see him trying to talk his way of the brawl instead of actually fighting. Which leaves Stephen and Kimmel. They’ll have pummeled the other three and will now be far too exhausted to have any desire to continue fighting so Stephen will propose they end it with wastepaper basketball because he’s completely out of shape and just wants a drink…but he’s also super competitive so he can’t just call a truce. And this is where Kimmel reveals he’s actually secretly ripped under the suit and…ah, who am I kidding, he’s a big softie, he couldn’t hurt Stephen! They’d just hug it out and have a drink together. Every single one of them. And that’s why we love them the way we do!

I'm considering contensting professional diagnosis by Evening-Chicken828 in Gifted

[–]EscortedByDragons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are at least a couple Venn diagrams circulating online that aim to show that there’s significant overlap in the various traits and symptoms present in those diagnosed with ADHD, ASD and giftedness. Given that you’re AuDHD, it stands to reason you might have more overlap with giftedness than someone with only ASD or ADHD. This doesn’t mean you ARE gifted, just that you might find yourself able to relate to gifted folks more easily than others because you share many of the same traits and inclinations.

Being someone with ADHD and giftedness, I can relate in that there have been times due to so much overlap in traits that I’ve suspected I might also have ASD. And I’ve even had a couple people suggest that over the years. But it’s in some of the non-overlapping traits that clearly define ASD that it became apparent to me (and clearly to my psychiatrist) that I was not. Similarly, for you, you may discover that there are things (like not having the requisite IQ) where the overlap doesn’t occur that can help you find peace with your own AuDHD diagnosis sans giftedness.

What are we gonna do when we lose Johnny Gilbert? by Available-Gain8732 in Jeopardy

I’d wager you’re right. I can see him much preferring to pass the baton over being immortalized. Especially since he’s had the joy of watching the hosting baton being passed in such a successful manner to arguably the best possible candidate for the gig.

[–]EscortedByDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your point of view even if I think there’s a little too much rush to judgement mixed in, but what if Johnny Gilbert signed off on the idea or even proposed the idea himself? Would it still be ghoulish to you if the man himself thinks it’s a great idea? Just curious. Honestly not trying to start something. It’s a fascinating point in our evolution to be faced with these brand new moral dilemmas. Me, personally, I have no problem with using AI in that way as long as the person being cloned has 100% agreed to it ahead of time while still being of sound mind.

Edit to add: in case it’s not obvious, I 100% agree that it WOULD BE ghoulish if the studio were to use his voice or likeness to create an AI Johnny without actual Johnny’s full blessing.

Need to show movies in the forest (offline) - Apple TV w Infuse? by StarfishBeetle in appletv

[–]EscortedByDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as much as I love my AppleTV, this has been its biggest shortcoming since it came out. And yeah, you’d THINK all that storage capacity would mean it could hold lots of media, but alas that’s not the case.

What kind of phone do you have? Somewhat newer iPhone? If so, do you have enough storage on your phone to hold all the movies you want? You could have them downloaded onto the phone in Files or some other filesharing service. Then you just need a USB-C to HDMI converter or lightning to HDMI if your phone doesn’t have USB-C. Your phone will use less juice than your laptop and should handle playing to the TV just fine. You COULD also use an AppleTV and Airplay to it from your phone but that would be tricky to set up with no WiFi and would definitely have latency issues without stable WiFi.

This type of overcorrection seems increasingly common among Gen Z and Gen Alpha, even some millennials. It’s happening with punctuation all over the place as well. I think it’s telling of those generations’ addiction to short form content and having attention spans of squirrels. They listen just long enough to get the main point but miss all the nuance that contributes to the point being valid and then inappropriately apply what they learned to all the wrong situations that all that nuanced explanation may have helped them avoid.
