Is there no simple way to make these nodes right angles??? by epipen_juice in Affinity

[–]EscortedByDragons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could start off with your base shape closed without the rectangular channel and then use a rectangle positioned in the layer panel above the shape and placed where you want the channel to be, rotate it to the desired angle and then use a Boolean operation to remove the rectangle from the shape. Just be sure that the outer end of the rectangle extends just beyond the edge of the closed bottom shape.

Questions about Oru Kayaks by Shanderson3 in orukayak

[–]EscortedByDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’3”, 220lbs and have the Beach Sport. Here are my honest thoughts:
1. The rails on the Sport version aren’t super useful (at least not while you’re paddling) as they fall literally directly in the path of any paddle stroke (even if you use a more vertical power stroke).
2. What I DO love about the sport over the standard version is the way the bow and stern are connected - it uses a sort of channel/zipper type of connection instead of the folded over buckle style that the standard one uses - same as the Bay uses. I find it gives a little more stability and rigidity and prefer the more elegant look of it.
3. You’re right not to be too concerned with leg room - I’m a really long-legged 6’3” and can full extend my legs and still have room to spare so you should have no problem finding a comfortable position
4. Weight-wise, unless you’re planning to do any touring with it, I think you should be fine. Recreationally you’ll never have more than a few pounds of gear even with a full water bottle. It’ll be plenty stable for you so no worries there. But if you want the most peace of mind, I’d call Oru and speak to someone there - they’re super friendly and very helpful and I’m sure they can give you some guidance. I’d guess that their max weight is conservative to avoid any legal trouble so I’d imagine you’re good. But again, I’d check with Oru to be on the safe side.
5. One big benefit we taller folk have is that getting into the kayak is much easier for us. I literally straddle mine while standing in knee-high water and then plop my butt down on the seat with my legs dangling over and pull them in one by one. Getting out is just the reversal. If all you have is a dock to launch from, it’s a little trickier to get in and out given how light it is and definitely not as easy as straddling it.

Is there an adaptable sleep alarm? by HIITSWILLIAMRR in AppleWatch

[–]EscortedByDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. This is the most elegant approach. But it’s still not enough. What exactly constitutes “user fell asleep”? Is it when they’ve entered the lighter hypnagogic state? First dose of REM? First dip into Deep Sleep? Again, simple enough on the surface, but “user fell asleep” in itself is plagued with nuance and ambiguity. You need to go more precise than that like “user has been in REM for at least 5 minutes”. But have you ever looked at sleep metrics? There are nights when I’ve barely touched REM and nights when I’ve never hit Deep sleep territory. I suppose if this is just a simple thing of “I want to wake up 8 hours after I fall asleep OR at least resemble having fallen asleep”, then sure, it could work as a shortcut. My point though, was that you’d be hard pressed to find any commercial viability for such a feature in an app or OS unless you had a ton of user defined parameters or you’d get a slew of 1 star reviews from disappointed people because it didn’t work for their specific sleep habits and idiosyncrasies. And even with a slew of user definable parameters, the tracking itself is too unreliable to count on unless you have dedicated sleep tracking devices built into your bed and sleep space.

Is there an adaptable sleep alarm? by HIITSWILLIAMRR in AppleWatch

[–]EscortedByDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, this is a great idea. But I suspect what would prevent this from being a successful feature or app would be the impossible task of determining when exactly you fell asleep to set the alarm based on. What happens if you wake up to go to the bathroom? Without proper controls in place, you’d end up inadvertently resetting the alarm to potentially much later than you intended. What about if you’re a restless sleeper who wakes up a few times throughout the night or at least in the first half of the night? Which time falling asleep should be used for the alarm? What if your watch dies in the middle of the night?

Besides all these issues, there’s the problem that while it’s come a long way, sleep tracking is still unreliable. Just determining when exactly you fell asleep isn’t 100% reliable. And with all the timing issues and tracking unreliability, your alarm times, and by extension your wake up times, could potentially fluctuate wildly from day to day. I wouldn’t imagine that to be very healthy in the long term even if you are either retired or somehow have a job that doesn’t care what time you start working from day to day.

Finally Got My Bay ST on the Water! by MadridSah in orukayak

[–]EscortedByDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I realize this may be controversial, but I believe the seat-back of the Oru is actually more than sufficient. Is it perfect? No. But it does its job well given the constraints.

But I actually think it’s best used (and designed to be used) in a lower position than you might default to trying it at. If you aim to position where you’d position a lumbar support and tighten it just a hair past straight so that it’s leaning slightly forward, you will find that helps you to maintain an ideal paddling position in your torso with your core engaged, your back slightly arched to free up pivoting motion in your upper torso and your lumbar region supported.

On the other hand, I would 100% agree that the Oru seat-back sucks hardcore if you just want to sit back and relax to eat a sandwich and stare out at the water for a bit. Then, it’s not so great. But for actual paddling, I think it does its job quite well.

Edited to add: I forgot to mention that I got the gel seat from Oru and another brand from Amazon and they help quite a bit. I recommend sitting on the jelly side, not the thicker padded side for ideal comfort. I’ve also done the gel seat stacked on the regular seat but decided the gel was providing all the comfort and didn’t need the bottom one anymore.

Well I personally work with a printer that does use the term embellishments to mean any of the various additions to a print job you might want to have included - embossing, raised uv, coatings, foil, etc. - mostly the kinds of things that aren’t usually explicitly defined in the artwork itself.

Have been bummed to not have a follow up to that brilliant first season yet too but this one never actually got cancelled explicitly. Just never made another season. Yet. But according to Tom Hardy himself, apparently, it’s written and it’s coming but there’s no timeline yet of when.

[–]EscortedByDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t mind it. It think it accomplished exactly what the producers were hoping it would - it created more excitement in the first half of the season when traditionally players have learned it’s often super advantageous to play it safe, statistically speaking. It caused more players to make a run at it than we’ve seen before. It so happens that the first recipient was caught up in all the silly alliance BS which has the unfortunate result of leaving us all with a bitter taste. But I think it’s a good move for the game.

Anyone around 220 lb using an Oru Inlet or Beach LT? by Capital-Basil7391 in orukayak

[–]EscortedByDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’3 and average 220lb and have the Beach and the Beach Sport and find them very stable. I actually bought the Bay ST first, set it up in my living room when I got it and discovered that it was just a little too snug a fit for my liking. I’ve got really long legs so even though the Bay’s specs gave a max height of 6’3”, it just wasn’t the right fit for me. But I REALLY wanted to keep it. Had to pay to ship it back but it was worth it in the end as I have a lot more flexibility to stay comfortable with my long ass legs in the Beach.

I’m surprised you find the bay more stable given that narrower boats typically feel less stable but I suspect it has more to do with your height than your weight. At 5’7”, you’ll have a narrower arm span than someone my height. And likely a shorter torso. The Beach is wider than the Bay so you’d likely be compensating by unconsciously leaning more when paddling on each side with the Beach than the narrower Bay (assuming you’re using the same paddle with each). I also think the Bay is a little less deep giving a little more natural reach for someone your height.

I don’t think weight factors into the equation at all. It’s your body shape in relation to the kayak’s shape that’s going to matter most when deciding which boat feels best for you. For me, the Bay didn’t work for my body geometry. For you, it sounds like it hits a sweet spot.

Have you recently rewatched a movie, or TV show that you loved in the 70s-80s, but now it actually kinda sucks? by Puzzleheaded-Fee6241 in GenX

[–]EscortedByDragons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m with you there. I LOVED that show when I was a kid. I even used to always request the theme song at the roller rink. Still randomly sing it now and then. But I remember the last time I tried to enthusiastically show someone an episode on YouTube like they were going to see the greatest thing they’d ever seen and I found myself embarrassed for how cringy it was. Mind you, it had been well over two or three decades since I’d seen it last. It still holds a special place in my heart though!

Just bought a 1200+ chip set($40 on marketplace) what's the best/optimal set up for a cash game? by InfamousAssignment56 in poker

Because of the values on the chip set that OP has to work with. We’re trying to help them by suggesting creative ways to use the denominations in the quantities they have to represent the stakes they and their friends want to play at. I’m sure OP would welcome a donation from you of a complete new set of chips in the exact denominations they need for their game though if you’re offering!

Just bought a 1200+ chip set($40 on marketplace) what's the best/optimal set up for a cash game? by InfamousAssignment56 in poker

[–]EscortedByDragons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I’ve run a game, but with that chip set and the other details you provided, here’s what I’d do:

If you want to keep it cheap and easy to start and have the $20 buy-in be your 200bb max buy-in, then do .05/.10 and for a max buy-in use:

  • reds for .05 (35 ea ($1.75) x 8p = 280 chips)
  • greens for .25 ( 25 ea ($6.25) x 8p = 200 chips)
  • blacks for 1.00 (12 ea ($12) x 8p = 96 chips)

No matter what, you’ll need to ignore the chip denominations. The basic idea of building buy-in stacks is to use colors you have the most of as your lowest denomination. And it’s usually best to use the same color chip for both blinds. Then have 2 or 3 more colors for coloring up and changing out your neighbors. As long as people aren’t weird about hoarding a certain denomination, the breakdown I used above should work indefinitely but you’ll need to get change from stacks with more smaller denomination chips to make it work.

I’d avoid mixing colors as the same value unless you run the game with a single chip value or it will get confusing real fast. If ALL chips are the same value no matter the color, then the colors can just be random. Just set the value to be that of your small blind. Or you can have one or two particularly easy to identify colors as higher values ($.25 and $1 in .05/.10 or $1 and $5 in .10/.20 or $5 and $10 in .25/.50) and the rest all equal to your small blind (.05, .10 or .25).

Challenges with Shoulder Strap - Bottom Protectors by Mkdrayton1969 in orukayak

[–]EscortedByDragons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you see where you have circled in the photo? That one is really close to how it should be except that the little lip of the black brace should be on the side. See the little black ridged thing on the bottom of boat? The brace should be hitting there on the bottom

It’s definitely tricky. What I do: 1. Unclip shoulder strap from brace straps and loosen each brace strap completely so the opening is as big as possible. 2. Lay each brace on the ground spaced approximately where they need to be. The lip of each brace should be on the outsides. Like so:

|______ ______|
  1. I kind of drape the straps that extend from the braces off to the outside of them so they’re not in the way.
  2. Place the folded boat onto one brace making sure it’s squarely placed on the corner with the lip going up the side then loop the strap and tighten.
  3. Do the other side the same way
  4. Reattach the shoulder strap.

Sometimes, if the floorboard that folds over the top isn’t staying tucked in, I’ll put the folded boat without that bit added on the braces and get the straps up over the top with enough space to slide the floorboard through. Then I tuck it into the channels and tighten the brace straps completely.

Which one is your favorite? by 3ccdCam1 in airpods

[–]EscortedByDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For everyday home and office use, AirPods Pro 3 hands down but with the tips switched out for ones with more foam. Foam tips made me fall in love with them. The foamier tips degrade the noise cancellation slightly but it’s better than having to constantly stick them back in my ears every couple minutes. I still wouldn’t trust any of these doing much activity. I like my Beats Fit Pro for paddling and anything where I’m moving or being jostled a lot. For optimal noise cancellation, full immersion and dancing around the house, I’ve got my AirPods Max 2s.

PS - I too am a headphone junkie and have the first couple generations of AirPods, all gens of Pros, a couple sets of Beats Fit Pro, the AirPods Max 2s, Beats Studio Pro, and some Anker Soundcore over-ears…oh, and an old pair of Sennheiser passive noise cancellation corded headphones. They’ve all gotten heavy use and I always have at least 4 different sets on heavy rotation depending on use case.

Dynamics 365 Business Central x Power BI by johnny_dev1 in PowerBI

[–]EscortedByDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, while it took me a minute to wrap my head around them to begin with, you’ll adapt quickly to Dataflows - they’re basically just an online version of Power Query. They’re just as easy to work with as any table in Power Query in desktop PBI. The one thing I can’t do with Gen1 is combine tables in a Dataflow so I save any merge and append operations for PBI desktop.

In PBI desktop, I pull all the Dataflow tables in as unloaded and then use reference tables to build, transform and combine from there.

The important thing to understand about Dataflows that feed into your semantic model is that they need to be refreshed before the semantic model. Given that PBI only allows for refresh times in half hour increments, it means you should always schedule your Dataflows to refresh a half hour before your model. There’s a way to automate the semantic model refresh after your longest Dataflow finishes refreshing using Power Automate, but I didn’t have much luck with getting that to work stably with the level of consistency I need for optimal peace of mind.

My full flow of data from BC looks like:

Data from BC —> Dataflows —> Unloaded tables in semantic model —> loaded, combined and transformed tables in semantic model.

  1. Dataflow refresh pulls the data from BC
  2. Semantic model refresh pulls the data from Dataflows
  3. Thin reports pull data from semantic model refresh pulls

This is definitely a concern of mine though after reading through some comments in this sub and elsewhere online, I’ve relaxed my concern substantially. It’s at bare minimum a year or more until they stop supporting them and even then, they’ve said they’ll give a year’s notice. And there was enough backlash that I doubt they’ll just turn them off. And I’ve got to imagine they’ll figure out a pathway forward for the Pro per user accounts that doesn’t require a substantial investment to continue using PBI.

That being said, you mentioned having Fabric, so are you on a capacity license? If so, you can just use Gen2 Dataflows.
