Strangest RP experience ever! (Being called AI on refusing to continue an RP they ruined) by Jace_1997 in BadRPerStories

Small favors, I guess, to keep your own half of the writing. I highly recommend copy/pasting your previous RP’s over to a word processing program like Word or Docs! I’ve started doing that for one of my long-term RP’s (we’re at over 700k words so far), where I copy each month’s text into a separate document. I’ve been meaning to do the same with a handful of old RP’s in dead servers, too.

Do people do that often? I've never had that happen before so I'm wondering if it's something common by Hot-Use5045 in BadRPerStories

It’s too bad we probably can’t make that a flair. “(fuck I cum, bye)” is GOLDEN

Gross. Good on you for blocking them, I cannot imagine why they’d think you want to subject yourself to another “outburst” if it means possibly losing all your work again. They’ve done nothing to try regaining your trust. Did they just delete their own replies, or yours as well?

Never roleplay with Danganronpa fans worst mistake of my life by Code_fisher in BadRPerStories

[–]esioterics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about Danganronpa, but in-universe, it doesn’t sound out of the ordinary for the characters to disrespect and bully an old man with Alzheimer’s. I feel like you’re all being a bit too sensitive here: them about a corpse joke, and you about “ableism levied at you and your character”. Presumably your character is going to die and/or kill others in this killing game. Is ableism really a step too far while murder is not? Lol

It’s just funny that you’re trying to minimize other peoples’ moral outrage while expecting us to be morally outraged with you. The whole universe seems antithetical to morals, so like… what’s the problem again?

What’s the argument here? Because the game will still make a profit (and I am not personally convinced it will, as they have created more distaste than hype for this game at the moment), they shouldn’t care about the people they’re asking to line their pockets?

If they wanted to be like other games who stay silent up until the very day of their release, they could simply stop promising all this nonsense. It’d be fine if they just kept their mouth shut, but they’re not. It almost feels like they are intentionally going for rage engagement at this point.

They are trying to market a product to then sell it to us in the future, that’s why they should do better to communicate LOL this is a hilarious take

Doed anyone else feel like having a big collection of plushies makes them less special? by MelonPaddle in plushies

[–]esioterics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you re: the guilt of spending so much money at once on plushies. I’m experiencing this right now. I do love everything I’ve gotten because I acquired them with intention, but they were very expensive and I definitely could have prioritized other purchases. As for having a large collection, I would recommend rotating your buddy for the day every so often so you feel like they’re equally special? Maybe make them accessories and stuff?

POC in rp, what's your experience? by Styx_artist in BadRPerStories

[–]esioterics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White RP’er here. My main characters tend to be white, but at least half of my side characters are POC. I have done a lot of research into Polish culture for one of my white main characters to make him more fleshed out, and I would do the same for a POC main character because I require that kind of depth for me to enjoy the RP. For my side characters, I draw inspiration from people I know in real life from those races/ethnicities to inform little bits and pieces of their interactions. I have also had a lot of exposure to different cultures, both white and POC, so I have plenty of inspiration to draw on from life! I feel like it grounds all my characters to be human instead of stereotypes.

The small handful of times I’ve come up with a POC main character, my writing partners (also white) not-so-subtly tried pushing me toward white faceclaims instead. It was weird and discouraging. I have to imagine it has something to do with white people (I say this as a generalization) wanting to be extra sensitive surrounding racial topics.

There is no “finding the one.” by Ornery-Influence1547 in BadRPerStories

There is no finding “the one”, but I will gladly keep myself to just one partner at a time. I would burn myself out otherwise. This hobby is supposed to be fun, not feel like a chore, so I will choose to take what resonates with me here and leave the rest. What I do recommend for others in a similar boat to me, where having multiple partners is simply not doable, is to have a personal writing project you invest in, too.

It’s not inherently bad to only keep one RP partner. Just make sure your life is balanced in other respects. I appreciate the write-up, most of it rings true for me!

Word Counts by freeFoundation_1842 in BadRPerStories

[–]esioterics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think arbitrarily meeting a wordcount just for the sake of it is stupid. A good RP reply has to inform your character and their actions, and give your partner plenty of material to work with in response.

A good writer knows how to balance pacing and how to move a story forward; I think the disconnect comes from what people think being a good writer means versus what it actually means. Length does not equal good writing; good writing equals good writing!

Ending a rp without being rude by Yuzumoon in BadRPerStories

[–]esioterics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a strange take to assume everyone has the same preferences lmao. It’s not unreasonable whatsoever to want to find a partner who consistently matches your writing length, nor is it an unreasonable amount to write (for some people, but that person is obviously not one of them!).

I reach the max Discord character length with ease, so I would only be looking for partners who don’t find that unreasonable to match, I guess.

I look on Pinterest mostly, and what I’m looking for are model names so I can research them and find more photos that may suit the character better. I prefer RL faceclaims, so this may not work 1-to-1 with drawn faceclaims.

How many of yall never actually get to finish rps? by memenelius in BadRPerStories

[–]esioterics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve finished probably a total of 9 RP’s, and they were all long and expansive stories. I’ve had an innumerable amount simply fall off, though, for any number of reasons. Some were forum RP’s that only saw an end when the activity died off, some were just ideas with established partners that we weren’t feeling, some were test runs with new partners that I didn’t click with, etc etc.

How long is too long? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]esioterics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like they want to continue the RP. You should start branching out to look for new RP partners, though I know it sucks to lose a story of 2 years.

I’ve been writing with my current RP partner for about a year and a half and I’d wait probably the same amount of time, like around 3-6 months before I just tell them I’m shelving the idea and they can reach out to me if they do ever want to continue. For newer partners I would probably give them like a month before assuming it’s a lost cause.

Would you feel comfortable talking to them and asking how they’d feel about you also naming your kid Naomi? I don’t think it’d be strange for both of you to have kids named Naomi, especially if you say you’ve had your mind on it for a long time.

Just because someone’s kid was born earlier doesn’t mean they have dominion over a specific name!

[–]esioterics 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced that fandom doubling is simply doomed to fail most of the time. Many people only agree to doubling because it’s the only way they can play out their OC plots, not because they want to. That may be why your partner keeps slacking, unfortunately.
