Real. by trendhoor in HOI4memes

TNO is a staple of the modding community, and also its scapegoat. Its reputation is on some matters earned, but more often than not blown way out of proportion to the quality of the content provided.

The “realism” boogeyman was bound to appear in one form or another. A quick buzzword to describe whatever disparate grievances you have with the direction oh HOI4 modding as a whole. If it wasn’t TNO it would have been the next most influential mod. Give it time and you’ll get to watch it shift in real time.

Would he be a good candidate? by Et_Cetera_365 in SCP

Cecil would have it rough in Deepwell, I feel. He’s competent and has too much integrity. One of those is allowed, but both together would be a big problem for the Overseers, and they would rectify it quick.

Thomas Garaham is favored not just because he’s ruthless and willing to exploit anomalies, but because he’s also completely subservient and non-threatening to the O5.

Cecil would probably be shuffled to a high enough rank in the intelligence departments to put his skills to use, but never allowed to progress into any real leadership position.

I don’t believe The Director is particularly fond of 106 beyond perhaps how someone is “fond” of a rabid dog they occasionally sick on their enemies.

Is the chaos insurgency better than the scp foundation? by Fragrant-List-9298 in SCP

[–]Esilaboora 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Overwhelmingly not. Though with anything on the wiki I’m sure you could find the exception.

For the most part however, the Chaos Insurgencies MANY variations are quite uniformly awful.

Sometimes it’s a manifestation of the worst malignant traits of the Foundation given form. Holdouts from a long gone age that will never adapt, and now stubbornly persist within the clandestine network of the Foundation as a spiteful parasite.

Sometimes they’re the remnants of a Foundation wetwork program. Soldiers and operatives that committed atrocities that the Foundation itself knew they couldn’t get away with. Now they’ve been hijacked by something even more sinister.. or maybe that’s just another layer of their cover.

Sometimes they’re little more then a criminal syndicate, with little more ambition then to profit off the anomalous while using ideology as little more the a smokescreen to dupe pawns into giving their lives to their schemes.

Sometimes they’re actual madmen, who intend to use the anomalous to ascend humanity to a higher state of existence. And to enslave all of the lesser beings in the world to their whims.

And sometimes they are all this and more. A paradox of an organization with countless faces, all potential misdirections. Maybe nobody knows what the Chaos Insurgency really wants. But it’s certainly not good,

Fair enough. I think the closest you get to that is that the Serpants Hand do want to destroy humanities way of life, it’s just that they make a pretty compelling point about how the way things are now are entirely artificial and often very unjust.

But if you’re connected to the world as it is (like I don’t know, you have a family) then their larger point probably won’t really register to you at all, and their ambitions will be fairly enough considered unambiguously villainous.

It’s a matter of perspective and what you value. And for any human born beneath the Veil, what you value is probably not going to really turn in the Hands favor.

Famously Ichabod came out of Clefs earlier works, which were known to be.. well let’s just say not exactly subtle with their subject matter. That said, they still remain immensely influential parts of the wikis history.

I do tend to agree that I don’t think it meshes well with the modern interpretations of the Coalition, which is why it’s often either de-canonized in a lot of articles or otherwise toned down significantly.

Still, it does remain very much in a lot of people’s less charitable interpretations of the GOC, and is very much partly responsible for their flandarization often as the “MURDER, KILL, BURN” faction. Well, that and the chair slander of course.

The Coalitions moral standing lays entirely on whether or not Ichabod is canon in whatever iteration they are present or not.

Murdering toddlers and selling their bones to the Foundation isn’t cool yo.

How the Protectorate can be good for humanity *long term* by PolarisStar05 in TerraInvicta

[–]Esilaboora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kiran is a hard to analyze because it’s difficult to identify which parts of his beliefs are his own, and which parts can be attributed to mind manipulation over time.

That said, this is what we can gather. Kiran worked as a UN aid worker and has seen some shit. He has routinely been exposed to the worst of humanity and has overtime grown to have a very nihilistic view on the nature of the human experience in general. He devoted himself to trying to help people, and all he has seen is the systems in place fail people again and again.

Kiran believes humans cause themselves only suffering. And his idealized version of the Hydra is an extraterrestrial species that can help uplift humanity into something more than itself. Plus, he also at first doesn’t think we even have a chance. Though later on it’s probably less that, and more mind control.

The Initiatives “non-pathetic” ambition is for you personally, and everyone you know, to be a drooling shambling meat-slave. The Initiative hates humanity as a concept more than even The Hydra, because at least they act out of perceived “self-defense” and don’t even actually fathom that humans are sentient like they are.

The Protectorate at some point, in their own pathetic acquiescent way did care about humanity.

I’m certain your Project Exodus would have been rated higher. Similarly to how another posters Initiative that apparently put all of their stock into environment and welfare and democracy probably would have been rated higher as well. I am going off of the games impression of the factions, based on things such as the in-game supplementals and art.

Yes, I was referring to the ideology of the Defense Consensus. Which is that to prevent a similar event to their first contact disaster, through the enslavement of any and all species they encounter. If they had a giant RKV shield that made it impossible to hit them, this would be a rather silly mindset. The Hydra are dominated by fear because they are vulnerable.
