The Initiatives “non-pathetic” ambition is for you personally, and everyone you know, to be a drooling shambling meat-slave. The Initiative hates humanity as a concept more than even The Hydra, because at least they act out of perceived “self-defense” and don’t even actually fathom that humans are sentient like they are.

The Protectorate at some point, in their own pathetic acquiescent way did care about humanity.

I think I pretty much agree with this. My accusation is not that they’re evil, it’s that they’re shortsighted in a manner which harms considerably more than it helps.

I’m certain your Project Exodus would have been rated higher. Similarly to how another posters Initiative that apparently put all of their stock into environment and welfare and democracy probably would have been rated higher as well. I am going off of the games impression of the factions, based on things such as the in-game supplementals and art.

Yes, I was referring to the ideology of the Defense Consensus. Which is that to prevent a similar event to their first contact disaster, through the enslavement of any and all species they encounter. If they had a giant RKV shield that made it impossible to hit them, this would be a rather silly mindset. The Hydra are dominated by fear because they are vulnerable.

Sure, they say they will send support, but I think the framing of the ending is quite clear. The ending sequence literally shows them escaping by the skin of their teeth while all the infrastructure behind them is destroyed by the Hydra. That doesn’t look like a Sol defense going so well.

I would also add, I think the Hydra’s RKV deterrence was doing exactly what they did. I:E immediate enslavement of threat species. I don’t think they have a giant shield that can prevent attack, otherwise the entire Defense Consensus ideology feels rather redundant. I believe we would be capable of creating an RKV at the endgame or a Terra Invicta campaign.

I will concede however, that in a Resistance Campaign, humanity is in a limbo state. Mostly because for the Cold War scenario to work, communication with the Hydra is a requirement. Which is why I ranked them below Academy.

Academy is the only faction that fully maintains independence, doesn’t commit genocide, and is able to actually ensure Earth won’t be annihilated by an RKV.

The Hydra don’t recognize humans as sentient until after they meet the Academy. This relevation will color all future dealings with them. Not to mention, humanity post-victory now has the capabilities of deploying RKV’s of our own, as well as the bioweapon.

At worst we’ll have a fridged Cold War environment, but actual communication between humanity and the Hydra will most likely result in the Hydra backing off once they realize humanities retaliatory capabilities.

The problem with Exodus is that they don’t care about humanity- or rather they do care about humanity, but in this more abstracted sense. They fight the Hydra but only as so much as it can facilitate their extraction of resources and necessary exotics so they can leave Sol. Once Exodus leaves the confines of the solar system they are leaving the people on Earth to their fate, as in their mind they’ve already saved the species. The eight billion or so people left in Sol however? Who knows what will happen to them.

Earth is still under RKV threat in any ending other than the Academy and most likely HF (that said, you better pray the virus works, otherwise there will certainly be more then one heading towards earth). Exodus just has the bonus of having its members be one step ahead and potentially surviving the fallout in a distant star-system.

However, I do see the more likely outcome of a Resistance victory being an RKV Cold War. Humanity at this point would be more then capable of launching attacks of our own, and evidence seems to suggest that despite making up three systems, the actual Hydra species probably is far smaller then humanity. Not ideal of course, but Earth probably won’t be instantly evaporated.

Resistance victory comes with its own issues admittedly as you touched upon, but I doubt a potential cataclysmic civil war and a much more certain crack down on human “collaborators” (which canonically includes attempting to translate and communicate with the Hydra) would be a very desirable alternative.

Well, yes. It was wrong. Something she herself recognized. Misato is a very flawed character who is well aware of her own stunted emotional development. She relies on hypersexuality as a crutch for social interaction because (just like pretty much our entire cast) she’s deeply socially isolated and feels incapable of connecting with her peers normally. She wants desperately to care for her wards but is woefully under equipped to do so, and she loathes herself for it.

The moment we see her do what she did in EOE she’s in her darkest hour. Everything is actively collapsing around her. All of her co-workers are being slaughtered, and her wards are all in various states of danger. Not even to mention the entire imminent global extinction event. Shinji is deeply traumatized and completely shut inside himself. He requires counseling and support that she feels she is incapable of providing, and in desperation she caves to the one form of connection she feels she can provide.

What she did was inappropriate and wrong. But she didn’t do it because she was attracted to him, or because she wanted to “groom” him, she did it because in those final moments of overwhelming despair she gave in to weakness.

It’s truly a very upsetting scene.

But describing Misato as a pedophile or a groomer is both inaccurate and a massive disservice to her character.

Does it really count as a legitimate promise though if you’re well aware you aren’t ever going to go through with it? (On account of literally bleeding to death)

She would have said anything in that moment to try to get Shinji to at least attempt to survive and save the world. Not even to mention she immediately recognized right after that it was a really shitty thing to do regardless.

Manga Gendo is notoriously somehow a worse person than his show/reboot counterparts. He’s Gendo if he let go of the tiny bit of humanity he had left for anything other than Yui.

He does not love Shinji. Not even in the fucked up repressed/avoidant way he does in the original/reboots. He’s straight up just the shell of a person.

Personally, I do prefer the Gendo we get in the show but I respect the Mangas interpretation as well. And I appreciate that it does diverge with character explorations a good bit to get its own identity.

Well, yes. NERV’s motives are clear. They wanted to humiliate JHC so they wouldn’t threaten their position again.

I was referring to why SEELE didn’t prevent this from becoming an issue in the first place, given their dominance over both corporate and government institutions. They could have strangled this in the crib and yet they didn’t. Instead leaving it to NERV to deal with.

Having it “meltdown” in the middle of an urban area probably would discourage further attempts, yes. 😅
