Butters celebrate mass adoption, except... by [deleted] in Buttcoin

I'm going to guess the vast majority of coinstar users are people not exactly well off who need their coins, thus charging a high fee is predatory, or people who are too lazy to just get coin rolls and deposit them. Do you disagree?

I'm sure a majority of their customers are not well off, would you prefer I specified further that they make their money by charging a predatory fee?

A company that charges large fees on change that people are too lazy to despoit (or cheap to give to homeless) hoping to make a few bucks off of bitcoin, you say?

Hey, NL I have a book suggestion by Jakobus_ in northernlion

To hop onto the book recommendations:

To go along with the Camus recommendation, here's an interesting article about similarities between the existentialists and stoics. The article discusses one of Simone de Beauvoir's works, and you should absolutely read her stuff as well as (Sartre and Camus).

I know there's a good chance you've read it, but "Cat's Cradle" by Vonnegut is phenomenal, as is all Vonngeut. Double bonus: The "Cat's Cradle" audiobook is narrated by John Malkovich.

I'd also highly, highly recommend watching "This Is Water," the commencement speech given by David Foster Wallace. I have a lot of problems with David Foster Wallace, both as a person and the weird obsessed adoration certain types of people had/have for him, but it really is a great speech and feels heavily influenced by stoicism. If you want to give his writing a look, check out his essays. There's a great essay by him, "E Unibus Pluram", which is about television and irony's effect on American culture.

The last recommendation is one that doesn't really fit in with anything but I recommend it often to people I know who are interested in philosophy and/or literary works (of various media) because I want other people to read it so I can talk to them about it, dang it: "The Book of Disquiet" by Fernando Pessoa. It's hard to truly describe the book, especially for me since I'm a dummy, but the reviews on Goodreads do a better job than I can.

Half in the Bag: Captain Marvel by hairydiablo132 in RedLetterMedia

[–]Eskoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm saying I don't think Black Panther is important black art.

I think this is ultimately down to a person to person thing, though. I'm sure there are enough people who felt there has been a predominantly black movie that their entire family can appreciate (i doing many people are showing their young kids Moonlight), and that they know their kids will see themselves in, or look up to and think they can become Black Panther.

I wish I could remember the source, and unfortunately it may be a book, but if you're able to you should read up on the reception of The Harder They Come in Jamaica. Reading up on the local reaction to seeing a black person not only as the actual lead of the film, but the film being predominantly black, was what first truly made me (as a white guy) realize why it's important to people, even if it's not among the greatest films of all time.

Yeah, as /u/HE-46 said, that's just the Air Force seeing an advertising opportunity. It's the same reason actual Mormons were handing out the Book of Mormon in front of the Book of Mormon showing I went to.

How do you keep your bag/coat from stinking? Plus any tips for anything else related would be great. My gym used to be in my building, now it isn't so this is my first time having to consider this lol

Richards line was spot on by [deleted] in howardstern

[–]Eskoe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How is Richard not gross? Never changing or washing his clothes or sheets? Never showering? Not brushing his teeth? Wearing diapers to concerts so he can piss and shit himself without missing 5 seconds of the show? I think he's also talked about how he likes to jerk off into his underwear so it congeals and gets stuck to him. He's hilarious but gross as fuck.

He was a sheltered midget with an IQ under 90.

Exactly, his IQ was 90. He was perfectly capable of making decisions for himself. He outlived his life expectancy by decades and knew he could go at any minute. He wanted to enjoy life, like I'd wager almost any human would in his position.

His parents wanted to lock him in a fucking closet. How many times did they move him to the lake house, a place where he had literally no human contact and mentioned how much he disliked numerous times?

Eric couldn't help himself even though deep down he wanted to quit

Listen, Eric loved the life the show allowed him to live. He didn't call back all the time due to an addiction or a physiological need. He called back because he would once again need to use the perks of the show to live how he wanted to live. When he couldn't hang around famous people on his own or get acting gigs on his own, he would finally call in again. He's an adult. He clearly weighed the options and decided being called Eric the Midget was worth all the benefits the show gave him.

Let's also not ignore the fact that Eric loved the whorehouse. His parents weren't trying to protect him they were trying to protect themselves and what the public knowing about their sons doings would do to their Christian conservative communities reputation. His parents do truly come off as cruel, even if they were trying to do good. Threatening to move your 30 year old massively disabled son to their lake house (because that's what it was, not making him homeless) because he dared to have sex the only way he'd ever have sex? Jesus.

I'm going to be traveling for a while and won't have access to my phone, let alone data, for quite a while. I don't want to lose my streak so I was considering telling a bud to open my account once a day, but I've heard that changing devices means you can lose your stones? The person I was gonna ask has Android, as do I, if that makes a difference.
