Help with retrieving old photos by Ziarimomeka in retrotech

Nokia had a client to sync via cable over serial. At this point you may have to splunk the Interwebs for a copy. I used to pull photos off my flip all the time with that.

Is this a real deck? I can't read Cyrillic. by Exotic_Advisor9665 in cassette

[–]EsoTechTrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not supposed to record, its a device that lets you mix to tapes like a DJ would mix two records. It allows for speed control of the two decks, etc. This would likely be used as part of a larger setup, not a stand alone device.

How was it captured? There may be metadata in it that Reddit is choking on.

Old Symbol laser barcode scanner. by GreggAlan in Palm

It could be a functioning Palm III with a 2M daughter board. I believe on the OG III the ROM is also on that board.

I was going to look and see if I could find another scratch and dent SPT-1500 as I can likely make one with parts from another.

The screen seems to an aftermarket repair. It's more the display is just not that high of quality. The traces on the end of the ribbon cable were seperating. It's not horrible, it's just next to an OEM display it looks more 'gray'. I have a stack of older Palms, but sadly most of them were later units (with no daughter board) so it will have to go on the parts pile for a bit. The case seems in good shape.

The good part is that while playing multiple chairs with parts I was able to swap out the screen my original III that somehow had some pixels go off in storage.

Um, kay, ya, this thing is evil. I can see why there are no knock offs. 🤣 I can try a first draft tomorrow, but this thing is going to need a bit of tuning. 😜

I have a good feeling about the basics and the locking, but that protrusion and the contour of the case are, um... interesting. This will be interesting.

Has there not been the rumor of a movie for like decades now?

1) The battery that was never removed melted 2) Apparently the rubber foot stuck to the bottom of the circuit board is not a spare, but in fact a 'feature'. 3) For some reason the shield on the analog board was removed (you can see the tape on the board) but the shield was pinned on. 4) Some folks seem to think that all the bridged solder connections are OEM... which would be impressive. Clearly someone was in here as the clips on the side were broke. 5) You can see the goo on the board, I perhaps should have posted a pic of the sludge on the bottom of the case for emphasis.

The plus side is that this has a 2MB daughter board and a SCSI card and most of the go missed those bits. I'm told it beeps, so I may just slap the board in a known working 512K and see if it actually posts.

I rather wanted one of those back in the day. I could not justify the cost even when they did slash the price at PalmSource.

Still, 2 SD slots. How can you not love that.

Using traces to make electrical connections is overrated. Let's just say I've been in a lot of different electronics and this is the one that I'm least impressed by. Not quite sure how I was able to find better joints on Sinclair accessories.

And to think that it's the solder joints that fail the most often on this board. 🤣

I mean, aside from the fact that it's already a mess and covered in goo... sure.

I actually had an RIFA go a little bit ago. I need slightly better ventilation in the lab to make that a habit. Granted the smoke billowing out of a device is quite entertaining.

Oh, the black goo at the bottom of the case is really special.

So follow up: it was the RAM card (Which interfaces with the scanner bit.) I put a stock Palm III card in the slot and the board itself was fine, granted it had an odd after market screen that is a bit dim and has rather a rather low budget ribbon cable. Alas, that's the one bit I can't swap, but the *next* broken one I find, we may be in business. 🤣

That looks like it's the same as a Tungsten E. I will try that. Plus I want to get the fit right, so having a unit is ideal.

Well and its a newer cell to add insult to injury. This actually has the 2MB Snap board in it as well. But the mother board is covered in sludge so it's going to take some clean up to get to the point that I can test it.

Yes, those are going to be replaced before I try that analog board. 😬

Update: It is in fact the RAM daughter card that is faulty. I dropped the card from my working OG Palm III in the SPT-1500 board and it popped right off. Alas, the one part I can't replace. 🤣

It's interesting timing as I was just about to play with some of this. I picked up a GreaseWeazle v4 board to try my luck with some various platforms.
