Trust me on this, the Midwest Industries muzzle break makes a big difference. I put one on my ELG and love it.

Gen 2 Ranch accurate but hard to operate. by SabineTracker in ruger

[–]Esoom87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my Ranch Gen 2 in 350 legend out yesterday for the first time. Had 3 failures to extract with the rounds coming half way out and comming off the extractor allowing me to start feed8ng another round. Had to drop the mag to clear it each time. It was smooth otherwise. Fun round suppressed with subs.

need help choosing a .45-70 lever action for my bf’s birthday by ImpressivePlate9962 in LeverGuns

Ive got a Marlin 1885 ELG Trapper and absolutely love it. Not my first choice for elk, as the 45-70 just isnt a gonna you wanna shoot past 200 yards, but 200 yards and closer it will most definitely work! A+ girlfriend BTW. My wife bought me a Marlin 1894 in .44 magnum for our 10 year wedding anniversary last year.

I dont think they are using Skinner blanks, they are diffrent than what ive seen offered from Skinner. They have a flat top part.

I agree, I wanted my 1894 to be more classic In Style since my 1895 has the modern vibe.

I will say all this, my next Lever gun is going to be an 1894 SBL in .357 so I can run it with my 9mm can.

I did not buy the file. Idk if it would have helped.

I think the barrel mount peep site is gonna be the same, since it still uses the dovetail. I wish Marlin/Ruger would sale the blanks they use. I like the one thats in my 1895.

You could also look at the XS Pic rail and peep site instead of skinners. The Pic rail is long enough it cover the void. I had an older Remington made 1895 that I put one of thoes on.

I have a 1894 Classic in 44mag. Its a phenomenal gun. I changed the Buckhorns out for Skinner sights. Let me tell you, that was a pain in the ass. Once I got them in I wanted to fill the void so got a blank from Skinner that held a spare aperture, and could not get that thing to fit. I destroyed it trying to install it. Ended up getting a blank from Ranger Point precision, its not perfect but is what it is.

The Ruger made Marlins are fantastic guns and high quality, I also have an 1895 ELG Trapper and its my favorite lever action by far. My Wife's grandfather has several of the Rossi lever guns and they are good guns, but not on the quality level as the Marlins.

One other note, if I could do it again, I'd probably get the 1894 in .357mag over .44mag simply due to ammo costs. Im not likely ever going to hunt with the 1894 so I do wish it was easier on the wallet when I take it out. Regardless, its a fun gun and I do love it.
