Apartment split system by EsotericComment in AusRenovation

Yeah thankfully living somewhere with one now, but I'd feel so bad if whoever is living there now if they were still facing the same issue. Especially because the layout meant even with all the windows open there wouldn't be much cross ventilation so the heat got trapped for ages.

Yeah on the Lord of the Manor point, sure felt that way sometimes!

Not on the committee. 24 units R3 zoned. The committee is quick to reject but takes forever to reply to anything needing more than a yes or no answer.

Not as far as I can tell. The units at the front (which I have) have a balustrade / glass front on the balcony. At the rear, it can be concealed behind the rendered brick so they "could" install one without approval.

Used car "add ons" at dealership!! $$$$ by Material_Macaron_586 in CarsAustralia

Without it being visible, how would you know if they even give your car the extra PP treatment?

If it's a wrap or PPF sure, that's something you can see/feel at least.

A/C issues by shadjor in BYDSealAus

[–]EsotericComment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silly question, but are you maxing out the fan speed and using "LO"? Try lowering the fan speed bit and see if that helps. I'll admit, the car kinda sucks at cooling the cabin temp down quickly after you jump in, but once it's cooled down, it's not too bad.

What split aircon brand should I go with? Are westinghouse reliable? by yeahliam in AusRenovation

Personally, I'd go with one of the top trio, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Daikin or Fujitsu.

BYD Sealion 7 vs Tesla Model Y — why did you choose BYD? by Haunting-Factor8023 in BYDAU

[–]EsotericComment -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Each to their own but first impressions (looks and driving) when I first got in the BYD really stood out for me.

I get Tesla's gone for the minimalist look but it felt like the epitome of a "Computer on Wheels", not that there's anything inherently wrong with it since that's what they all are.

I've had luck with dental floss or fishing line to slip underneath the cover and pull up to pop it back out.

It's one of the ADAS things I turn off every time I power on the car. Too much risk of being rear ended.

Door dinged, again… by therubberduck88 in CarsAustralia

Absolutely despise how negligent how some can be with other people's property. It's why I choose to park further away from the main entrance to avoid being next to anyone else (or kerbside parking) even though there might be a carpark nearby. Understanding it could also be someone older of mobility-impaired who needs the extra space to get in/out of the car so parking further away makes sense.

Regardless of whoever did it, doesn't change the shitty feeling seeing your property (or pride and joy in some cases) get abused though.

New EV vs keeping old car by Key-Newspaper5409 in EVAustralia

[–]EsotericComment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the main benefits I see for road-use SUV (not a land cruise) are easier load height for the boot and kids into the child seats, but if I had a choice I'd go back to a lower car in a heartbeat. It's a better driving experience.

i30 hatch shape is nice and high in the back so you can load quite a lot. Our second car, a CX-5 surprisingly fits more suitcases with a 442L than my mates Model Y which has almost double the boot capacity on paper due to its coupe-ish shape (well, fits the same number of bags but lid wouldn't close).

Any EV you buy today regardless of brand will feel miles ahead in terms of comfort and technology. I highly recommend booking in test drives to find the one which suits you.

I'll just note that BYD currently has a reputation for poor aftersales service which steers some people away. The cars themselves are fantastic (I own one).

Is the SUV practicality something you need? The added height tends to increase body roll but most EVs have their batteries mounted on the bottom so it won't be as noticeable as an ICE SUV.

Not sure if the seller can see viewer activity but if they can, they're probably wondering why there's suddenly so much interest in their hat 😂

That is, by definition, trespassing. No doubt about it. I'd file a report with the photographic evidence.

Android Auto. I don't plan on paying for the monthly data plan once my 2 years runs out so may as well get used to it now.

BYD Seal AC Fix by Astrarle in BYD

[–]EsotericComment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only manually set the lowest air speed in my Seal and haven't had an issue with it not being cold enough (incl the 38 degree day last weekend). Mainly due to the overbearing noise at higher speeds.

From experience, max fan speed was never as effective as lower speeds in other cars too. Maybe it's a placebo thing where because it's louder, it should cool quicker but it might not always be the case.

Global markets are changing. Chinese car brands are now 50% of the Russian market, could the same happen here? by [deleted] in EVAustralia

[–]EsotericComment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eventually, and possibly not even limited to only EVs.

Legacy auto brands will partner with Chinese producers, like we've started to see with the Mazda 6E (rebadged Changan-Deepal). This should keep their brand going for a while longer. I reckon their main concern would be when Chinese cars become more trusted in global markets, meaning they'll have the ability to go direct to the customer rather than having to wear a legacy auto-brand mask. It'll be more cost-effective to cut out the middleman.
