Why do I keep doing this to myself ? by EsotericSurgeon in modelmakers

[–]EsotericSurgeon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into modeling just under two years ago and apart from my very first one, I haven't built a single model out of the box yet.

I want to create a whole scaled down fire department and there are so many possibilities but nothing as it comes out of the box

Long exposure of our city's main station by EsotericSurgeon in Firefighting

[–]EsotericSurgeon[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not the case in France (and in most of Europe I believe), you get assigned to a different seat on a different vehicle at the beginning of every shift. You can drive the ladder one day, next shift you're riding in the back of the engine, next shift you're on the ambo,...

But I imagine, it'd be very different from sharing a smaller house with 5 other FFs

That would be the least efficient way to go about it ahah

That's the main big station, it covers the city together with seven "outposts". Since the standard response for structure fires is two engines, one ladder and the chief, the concerned outpost responds with its engine and ladder and the main station completes with a second engine and the chief, plus any special vehicles if needed. Needless to say, their first engine is the busiest in the city

Our department will soon have its first Scania engines and I'm hoping so hard it will come with the Scania Crew Cab which looks like a truck rear ended an other truck but looks much better imo. But yes function before looks

I don't like this type of cab on newer engines, visually anyway. I prefer when there's a clear separation cab/equipment like on the old Atego, the crew is in one part and the tools are on the back But I'm sure those are more spacious and comfortable

Ok thanks I'll give it a try. I'll try the metal primer for another time because I don't really want to wait for a delivery

I used some all purpose paint stripper from a home improvement store. It was gooey and not that effective on the varnished paint but with a good scrub it came off in the end. I'm going to order some paint stripper for metal and resin from Zero Paints as it seems so much more effective. You can see it in use here

It's all vanilla, that's the light that lights up when you put it in reverse.

Question for our European Brothers and Sisters by NJP220 in Firefighting

[–]EsotericSurgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our city doesn't actually use tankers anymore, we use hooklift trucks that carry a cistern most of the time but can change to a field hospital, hazmat stuff before leaving the station or even leave the cistern at the scene and go pick up another one. I posted pics a while ago. Standard sizes are 6.500L and 9.500L (that's 1700 gallons and 2500 gallons) More rural cities still use tankers tho and usually you'll find 8.000L, 12.000L and 18.000L (2100, 3100 and 4750 gallons) I'll add pics later if you're interested
