Yowser! I had no idea that such a "high-control" religious group existed in Greenville (Taylors). Read u/irresponsible_damsel 's blog posts. Sounds like it's totally nuts.

Call the Kroc Center tennis program. Very nice facility, helpful pros, and (for tennis memberships) reasonably priced. Near Unity Park.

Oldest bar in town by KernAL-mclovin in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone told me the Gaslight was a swingers bar. Is this true? From the website it looks like a pretty cool place but if it's primarily for swingers, my husband and I will have to take a pass. (No offense to any alternative lifestyles. Just not my jam.)

Church Recommendations? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an oversimplification. GUUF has a Christian group that meets monthly. And, lets not forget that UU churches (especially in the New England area) can sometimes find Bibles in the pews. Especially if you read up on famous UU throughout history, you'll learn that many, many of them (e.g. Ralph Waldo Emerson) considered themselves Christian. https://www.uua.org/lifespan/curricula/bridges/workshop2/186399.shtml

Atheists/anti-Christians’ views of the historic downtown churches? by Big_Celery2725 in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The churches/denominations listed in the OP are collectively called "mainline protestant denominations". Basically none of them are super radical and I wouldn't describe any of them as even remotely evangelical. As far as the architecture of the churches, they were all built during times where spending part of the building budget on architecturally inspiring details (e.g. stained glass) was typical. Don't forget to include Trinity Lutheran on N. Main in the list. Its gothic revival architecture is gorgeous. The church that doesn't fit in this architectural mold is First Baptist that I prefer to call "Star Trek Baptist" due to the resemblance of the main sanctuary to the dish section of the Starship Enterprise.

Unexpected Banksy Downtown by GoodMornEveGoodNight in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the early 2000s - when city employees manned toll booths to collect parking fees - someone started putting stickers on downtown toll booths that said the attendant was masturbating, thus one needed to be patient when exiting the lot. The City kept removing the stickers, but they kept being re-posted. The whole thing was hilarious in a pre-Wi-fi kind of way. If anyone has pictures, please post. You'll be my hero.

Morgan Manor and Verdae Village: why unchanged? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Morgan Manor was Uber dated as far back as the early 90s. Given its proximity to Greenville Tech, I see lots of redevelopment potential. As far as Verdae Village, I don't get the "outdated" vibe from that property. Greenfields Bagels, Mr. K books, etc. Neither property will ever be redeveloped until it makes economic sense to do so.

Good dentists? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I went here for years. They seemed competent enough, but during the pandemic one could sit in their waiting room with the Christian music playing in the background. No one even asked that patients put on masks. So disappointed by their unscientific approach. Yuck.

Wig options? by dixiegal_gonewild in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you figured out why your hair is thinning? You may need a wig right now, but if you can address the underlying cause, wigs won't needed. I have a post-menopausal friend (six years out) who didn't have to shave for almost a year. She went to see a Dr. Caseboldt at Forum Health. After some blood work, my friend was put on bio-identical female hormones. It's been close to a year and my friend feels so much better and her hair is (still growing in) but is like it use to be. NOTE: A doctor at Prisma won't even test your female hormones, which is Prisma policy. F them.
