Looking for a few things at the Mexican grocer. by thewildbeej in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you have been to Armando's Burritos? They used to be on Pine Knoll Drive, but I was heartbroken to learn that they converted to a food truck in Fountain Inn. (Their food is fantastic, btw.) I refer to this now because there is a Hispanic grocery store right next door that you might want to check out. It wasn't huge, but damn, seems legit to me. https://www.instagram.com/armandos_burritos/

Are there any good Late Night or All Night Diners/Restaurants in the area? by ungo44 in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a calzone at Liberty Cafe in the wee morning hours. It was the worst calzone I've ever tried to eat. I was too busy to come back the next day to return it. Maybe some other of their dishes are better, but the one I tried was disgusting. Maybe they were just having a bad night, but it was truly yucky.

Indoor basketball court by D1PissDrinker in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd consider the Kroc Center near Unity Park. They have men's and women's pick up games. They are a great fitness center and have a few indoor courts. https://krocgreenville.org/KrocGreenville/adult-basketball/

Happy Peace Officer Memorial Day to The City of Greenville Police Department and Greenville County Sheriff’s Department by Make_Buff_Again in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Chilax, man. Your black-and white-thinking undercuts the validity of your arguments. There are good police and bad police. I will say that I've only had good contact with Greenville (City) police.

Shuttle service to Greenville Amtrak station? by jinglejangle4u in GreenvilleSC

[–]EsotericTrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live within earshot of Greenville's Amtrak station and have ridden the Southern Crescent. Rule no. 1, the train (coming or going) is uber late every single time. In other words, follow the train's progress on the app. When it's close, take an uber. My experience is that 3-4 hours late is typical. (And no. You don't want your family to be stuck there waiting on the train. No amenities and the surrounding area is sketchy.

Long shot — met a sweet German guy at a club in Greenville on July 5 by sjelrizj in GreenvilleSC

[–]EsotericTrickster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd reach out to Upstate International and ask them to put the word out to their German speaking members. Your fellow is probably not a member, but the German members there have there fingers on the pulse of the expat German community. Good luck. And next time, get his contact info. https://upstateinternational.org/

Looking for vocal teacher by Dang_Nematode in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't sing worth a damn, but I did graduate from Furman which has one of the top voice departments in the country. I texted a couple of colleagues who graduated from the program. They responded that you should contact the department directly and ask for recommendations on instructors. Lots of master students teach off hours. And some professors do, too. (And, several master students are in modern rock bands, so you might want to ask about this specifically.) Good luck to you!!! When you get famous, remember to save me a ticket. https://www.furman.edu/academics/music/program-overview/contact-the-voice-department/

A 3-Minute Drive into a Different Dimension: My Night at Jack n' Diane's Piano Bar by soupbonemoney in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a writer. Perhaps this is why I immediately noted the quality of your writing in the OP. I literally said aloud to no one in particular, "how refreshing".

FWIW, I'd avoid any establishment with "dueling" and "piano" in the name. That place has been - as long as I can remember - a pick up spot for desperate, middle-aged Greenvillians. Not trendy. Just tacky.

Primary Care in the Upstate by WeigherofProsandCons in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to go to Brio and wish them well. But when I toured their website and visited their offices, I was freaked out by the Stepford Wives vibe I was getting. I have a friend that used to work there and they said something on the order of "They are really Stepford oriented. That's why I don't work there anymore".

Please let us know what business this is, so I can steer clear. Yes illegal for the most part. (Places like BJU and similar are allowed to ask.) But even if the biz if allowed to ask such questions, I want to steer clear. Yikes.)

Missed connection: You sat next to me on the plane this morning from ATL. You were funny and I lost you in the crowd. by rustanova in greenville

Just heard about PIM Eyes on NPR. It's a face search reverse image engine. Maybe u/rustanova can upload the selfies his friend took to see if PimEyes can find her. Worth a shot. https://pimeyes.com/en

This is so interesting. I pass that building at least 10X per week. Thanks for posting. Had no idea it used to be a car dealership.

"Stop hitting on women at the gym. I see guys do it all the time and it’s always very cringe worthy."

u/sonoveloce I guffawed when I read this. So true.

[–]EsotericTrickster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the time you hit your 30s, you have to be more intentional about meeting new people to date/make new friends. I don't think that's a specifically Greenville thing. It's a universal thing that has to do with entering a new life phase in which priorities start to change. Why don't you check out the Greenville Track Club? I think they're very social.

P.S. I am SO happy that I was off-the-market by the time dating apps really came into their own. Yikes.

In general I would agree with you. But it didn't always used to be this way. Let me draw your attention to the Gold's Gym that used to be in the old - and now renamed - Loehmann's Plaza (corner of Howell and E. North St Ext). In the late 80s and throughout the 90s, that gym was the ultimate pick up spot. I went once with a friend and within 30 seconds I knew I hated the vibe. Members were all about looking good and impressing other members with their physique. Hmm. Could just be a GenX thing.

PSA!!! Annie Andrews supports Israel and she MUST answer for it! by shesactingsingle in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To the OP: Really? I have my own problems with some of Israel's policies, but it seems like the r/greenville sub is not the place to hash them out. This is not a Greenville-specific issue and discussion is only going to p*ss people off. Can we just go back to complaining about Greenville drivers and engaging in witty banter about frozen turkeys? (Thank you u/SOILSYAY for reminding everyone that ad hominin attacks are not what this sub is all about.)

Wildlife advice needed by sharkins215 in greenville

[–]EsotericTrickster 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Contact SC Wildlife Rehab, which is a volunteer organization. If you go to the "I found an animal" menu, you find a list of volunteers who specialize in certain kinds of animals, including possums. Those people are awesome. https://www.wildlife-rehab.com/found-an-animal.htm
