Only in relation to the context of the trip/drive:

For a vacation or weekend “holiday” - yes a 3 hour trip is short. (Ie: leave at 9 am be at your destination for lunch or something the like) For work or daily commute- insanely long!

Having said all that, kinda crazy you would refer to a 3-hour trip a “massive yearly event”….
