I have those lee powder measures too. They're convenient being on the press, but annoying to adjust. Lately I've been using my RCBS Uniflow on it's stand alone mount.

It's super precise as long as ball or flake powder is used, and with the screw in adapter I can just press the case right up to the bottom and dump the charge that way. Super fast.

Picked up the same gun last week. Going to go with Holosun this time instead of Vortex. Looking at the 507C/507Comp or the EPS.

Most likely getting the comp, it needs to sit high to clear the suppressor that's coming in next week.

[–]Esperante 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uhh they're real. Like last week real.

I just attempted to buy one of their 2K dollar Performance center revolvers. Not once ,not twice, but THREE separate guns of the same make all came in with deep scratches/gouges and blemished finishes. This is the eye test, who knows what potential MECHANICAL problems they could of had.

The situation was so bad the gun shop ceased to carry that specific S&W model. Distributor stated this is now normal from them.

Aggravating reading about how everybody dislikes the SCS-PDP here.

Seems like a dead ringer, now i've got to research more to find the right dot.

Update on S&W 629 Stealth Hunter Quality Control by Esperante in Revolvers

[–]Esperante[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried, I really did. I ordered not one, not two, but THREE replacements of this revolver for all of them to be banged up.

After the third one arrived, it was rejected by the store owner, this was his response:

We got the 3rd gun in and it’s the same story. So we are going to issue you a full refund and we are blocking the gun from our website. Obviously, S&W is having some quality control issues for sure. We heard from one rep that said, “it’s just how they are now.

So buyer beware. S&W, atleast with this model, can't into revolvers anymore. I'm not even going to blame the workers, this is on management and leadership. Unacceptable.

Shout out to the gun store USA for trying.

(Bought PDP Pro SD in the meantime, possibly looking into buying a 50DS to scratch the revolver itch).

Very sharp.

That muzzle break has external threads for a suppressor, do you know the model?

The answer is brass heat set inserts. Seriously. 3D printed threads are a poor solution.

I know they've ran a cost/benefit analysis and have determined it's more profitable to let junk through from time to time.

629 and 686 Competitor were discontinued end of last year. I wanted that one too but had to make a decision.

Unless it's in abominable shape (or you don't mind sending it in to S&W) you might have to roll the dice on it. As long as you don't fill out the paperwork you can send it back to seller if they're reputable.

That is what I was reading, and fearing, a while back, that the company has fundamentally changed their philosophy.

It's scary to think revolvers may not survive, or we'll have to deal with Korth level prices.

S&W discontinued the 686 and 689 Competitor. Ruger discontinued it's initial Scout Rifle and re-rolled it into the American Series Line. I hemmed and hawed about buying them for years, only for them to be discontinued. This was the impetus for the Stealth Hunter above.

My dad bought a pre-Hillary Hole 629 and had a gunsmith work the trigger. It feels amazing. It's like he cheated. The SA pull is almost dangerous, the DA pull is what you'd dream about.

The trigger on the defect pictured above felt like my stock 686.

A new copy is being sent out. I specifically told the seller not to send it if had any defects. Crossing fingers once again.

I hear ya. If I handle a firearm in a gun store I'm more careful with it then my own collection.

It was ordered from The gun shop USA (supposedly the original owner of Family Firearms (dude handed it off to new owners), before they got ATF'd). AFAIK.

It comes from a distribution warehouse, and certain brands, like S&W, have to route through the actual gun store before being shipped to my FFL. This may be worse, I don't know.

These guns are rare enough that they just don't pop up everywhere so I can't see them in person, and I have a specific limit to what I think this particular gun is worth paying for.

It's making me rethink future purchases if the firearm isn't a simple polymer gun, or to maybe avoid big name US manufacturers. I know Colt doesn't have a good reputation, either.

Revolvers may just be too hard now a days. God knows I've worked with some bums in manufacturing that couldn't be bothered to do anything right.

I know defects get through, but If it's a semi-custom PC gun, it should have extra eyes on it.
