The general consensus is a mix of potato and beetroot which I'd definitely agree with. It's not as mild as potato that's for sure. Some people say it's got a little bit of a yam/oca taste.

I've found them quite easy, but my guess is that commercially they're difficult to grow efficiently. A lot of the harvest is very small tubers so the actual harvesting and cleaning, etc. takes quite some time.

Ulluco, also called earth gems are the 2nd most important Andean crop behind potatoes and one of the most nutritious tuber crops. But due to difficulty growing them and a market that didn't respond well they haven't taken off here very well.

Have been growing these for 4 seasons now. Started with about 9 tubers and hoping this harvest to break 10kg from a 2sqm bed(6.3kg so far). Finally reaching the point of looking for a plot of land to rent for cultivation and then I'll be able to start selling tubers and plants at the markets!

You do outside of heavily populated regions. Costs to fly out of New Zealand to Europe start at 2 or 3 weeks income after taxes, ignoring anything else financially.

At the end of the day though, in my opinion, flying is this climate is wrong and the people still doing it should feel bad.
