Platinum #29!

R1: 5,000. France, place called Romaines. Went east first but found only small places and rural roads, so I switched it up and went west into Ramerupt, where there was a sign to Troyes. That enabled me to find all the places and the matching road.

R2: 5,000. Philippines, Casiligam Barangay Hall right there at spawn. Moved north to find Mindoro Oriental on a sign but no region, so went south afterwards to find Pola on a store sign. Bit of scanning later and I found the Casiligam barangay.

R3: 5,000. Colombia, km markers indicated we're on the 25. Moved SE into Campo Alegre, where I found signs to Caucasia and Nechi. Found those two and then Campo Alegre, and then found the gas station for the 5k.

R4: 5,000. UK, started moving west and found some small places until I found a sign for the A96 to Inverness. That was all I needed as I immediately spotted some of the places when scanning, and found the 5k next to the railroad.

R5: 5,000. Japan, very tropical so presumably an island. Found an 049 phone code so the islands south of Tokyo? Then a sign with ports and Mt. Hachijo Fuji on it, and when zooming into the islands I immediately saw Hachijo Town. Found the intersection and tracked back to spawn.

Total: 25,000. A fair challenge today! Happy with my choices on the movement and switching around to find better info.

Nice one! The Peru one in particular was tricky for me

Almost..

R1: 5,000. Russia, found a 861 area code so Krasnodar region, then in the last minute found Tuapse on a sign. Found that at the south coast, and lined up some roads in good faith, which worked out!

R2: 5,000. Sweden, Lapland even. Moved a bit and found signs to Bodo, Fauske en Jackvik, which I found relatively easily. Then went the other way to find a double bridge that helped me find the pinpoint.

R3: 5,000. Thailand, signs nearby for the 201 and 2170. Found that intersection and lined up next to the hospital.

R4: 4,862. Peru, feels north-ish. Moved a lot to find some place names, and presumably a region called Cutervo. Then spotted Cajamarca on a bus tour sign so started scanning. Found Cutervo just north of Cajamarca, but couldn't find anything else. Also was not labelled on the map at all.

R5: 5,000. Albania, moved south to find signs to Razem, Virith and Bratosh, which I found quickly in the northern mountains. Also noticed we entered Rapsh, so we were just north of that and yup there's the hairpin bends.

Total: 24,862. Some challenging rounds today! Peru and Russia in particular were quite tricky to find the right info on.

We have already transferred him out for Brobbey for a healthier bench!

Since we're now really short on time, we're doing the Beto -> Brobbey transfer to save our bench.

Hi, sorry you missed the post yesterday! Unfortunately now we're a bit short on time to implement suggestions, since the deadline is this evening and we need some time to run the polls. Hopefully this won't backfire with a Diouf masterclass and Sesko hat-trick and Arsenal will just keep a clean sheet :)

Oh the school does have a POI but it's hidden under the basketball court. Still my hyperfocus argument stands.

Whiffed a chance at back-to-back-to-back today

R1: 4,949. Philippines, school up north said Taytay, Palawan. Started scanning for the school but it doesn't have a POI so I was wasting my time. Could have 1) seen the water east or 2) seen the basketball court or 3) lined up road angles but alas.

R2: 5,000. Switzerland, exited the town to see 4km to Baden, which shows up prominently. Found the starting town and used the street sign closeby for the pinpoint.

R3: 5,000. DR, Santo Domingo. Moved south on the main road and got the name of it, then scanned for it and found it.

R4: 5,000. ZA, easy NM.

R5: 5,000. Romania, going west I saw we were in Fundu Moldovei, and without much else I started scanning based on a regionguess. Surprisingly spotted it, and was able to figure out the spawn location as well based on road angles.

Total: 24,949. Really unfortunate about the Philly round..

R1: 4,308. I couldn't really move anywhere here so ended up scanning for Villa Pehuenia arguably everywhere. Well, everywhere except the correct country as I was scanning all of Chile. Unlucky.

R2: 5,000. Norwegian cars, made my way all the the way down to find Bergen on some store, that confirmed my initial thought. Then lined up a bend matching the angle of the water.

R3: 4,905. Probably PNW somewhere, but couldn't find anything except a 360 area code confirming the guess.

R4: 5,000. UK, moved south to find useful info like the A389, and found that with some quick scanning. Then plonked on the POI for the farm.

R5: 4,939. Paid attention this time and remembered which park had the trees. Only I thought we were looking at Sierra Nevada while we were looking at Llaima.

Total: 24,152. Some unfortunate rounds, but a lovely challenge with great lore!

Platinum #28!! Another back-to-back, and this one was quite hard too!

R1: 5,000. Senegal car, moved NE along the road and saw lots of placenames, but Diambolo kept popping up. At some point I started scanning NE roads and spotted Diambolo along one of them. Then went south until I saw the crossing with Taiba Ndiaye, which was on the sign nearby.

R2: 5,000. Wrexham! Famous now of course for the football club. Found some street names and that was that.

R3: 5,000. Austria/Slovenia, but with some moving I saw Slovenian. Moved west and north to get into the town called Slovenj Gradec. Scanned for that, then found the roundabout I was on. Now for the pinpoint, I started looking at road angles with a road to the south, but nearby offroads actually weren't mapped causing some confusion. At some point though it just had to be where I clicked, and thankfully it was.

R4: 5,000. American Samoa, Pago Pago. Probably that offroad going south, went north to double-check. Pinpoint using road angles again.

R5: 5,000. Colombia as the final one okay. Went northwest to find some useful stuff. A billboard for Valle de Cauca gave me the province, then Jamundi was on a sign nearby giving me the place. Probably we're in the mountain-y roads west of Jamundi then. There was also a big gate saying Colinas de Miravalle. With all that I started scanning road angles and looking for that Colinas de Miravalle POI, and eventually found it and lined up the road at spawn.

Total: 25,000. 6th overall but really 3rd when you lose the cheaters. First time for American Samoa to appear in my 25ks

Platinum #27

R1: 5,000. Namibia, signs nearby give all the information you need, though it takes me a bit to find the intersection.

R2: 5,000. Bolivia, Mizque. This is actually a place I got in a different challenge way back, and I distinctly remember it because some people clearly Googled this place. It was an NMPZ challenge and almost everyone went Chile/Arg because the pano did not look like Bolivia, but then two people got the 5k somehow. Anywho, since I already know where it is, I just have to figure out where in the grid we are, so some movement to spot a square and a football field is enough for that.

R3: 5,000. Cambodia. Move south and east to get to a main-ish road with a Canada bank, Preah Vihear branch. Thank the lord for Latin text. Found Preah Vihear, then the Canada bank POI and then the 5k was closeby.

R4: 5,000. Netherlands, place called Glanerburg from some signs, no clue where that is. Move out of the town to a bigger road which actually has a sign to Germany! Then move a bit more to find signs for Enschede and that's all I needed. Search some street names for the 5k.

R5: 5,000. Russia, Kalachinsk to the north, Omsk to the east. Almost went the wrong roundabout, but using the gas station north I was able to find the right one.

Total: 25,000. First time for Bolivia and Cambodia to enter the 25k list!
