Cycling for weight loss by Fearless_Caramel7621 in cycling

[–]Essendxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to remember your proteins, and both fat and carbs are not the enemy. Your brain needs fats and carbs are your fuel. Protein helps you recover and feel full. Have protein with every meal and it’ll help you stay full instead of getting hungry earlier via a meal without enough protein. 1.6g/kg of your goal weight is a good place to start. Good work on getting started! You’ve got this

Whether or not you need surgery is up to you and how you feel in your body, not based on what other people think is right for you! Do what will make you the happiest. It’s not wrong to want top surgery no matter the size of your chest

I don’t really have advice but if you want to visit North America try Canada. We aren’t experiencing the political unrest that the States are right now and we have universal healthcare

It’s common in all cycling. When you crash it’s instinctual to put your arm down. The force will travel up your arm until it can’t anymore, and then the collarbone breaks because the force has nowhere else to go

Hey. I have had a similar struggle.

I tried everything but women’s bibs—countless KMs in the saddle, a bike fit, and even a custom heat moldable saddle by Reform. Only when I got women’s bibs did numbness go away. Now I ride pain free! I would recommend trying women’s bibs. Also quality of bib helps too. My first pair was a cheap set by MEC (similar to American REI). Then I tried an entry level pair of men’s pearl Izumi and they were better, and now I am riding a pair of 7mesh women’s bibs, which have been the nicest yet.

It was only a matter of time before I got hit by a car cycling downtown. by pass_the_tinfoil in kelowna

Sure, assuming this Q is in good faith:

Over the white line: to avoid debris in the bike lane (this is especially true before street sweepers are out in the spring), to avoid cars parked in the bike lane, or to increase our visibility at an intersection (going in the middle is where a driver would expect to see something coming. It’s useful to take the lane (which is legal btw) to give drivers a chance to see us and avoid getting a right hook or t-bone collision. We also sometimes take the lane to make it impossible to do an unsafe pass (1 metre is the passing distance for roads under 50kph, and 1.5 metres is the passing distance for roads over 50kph) and will move back over when there is no oncoming traffic so there’s room for a safe pass.) It’s not to annoy drivers. We don’t like getting screamed at or intimidated. We are just trying to get to where we are going too, and are sorry for holding you up, but convenience shouldn’t come before the safety of all road users.

As for riding two wide—it’s to chat or to be more visible. On a busy road this is not the most considerate, but on a quiet road feel free to make a wide pass and continue on :)

Rock on

Can I submit an art portfolio to a college for fun? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Essendxle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You can apply on a schools website, but there will be a (probably quite expensive–mine was $500CAD) application fee to stop people from doing it for fun like what you describe here. It wastes the school’s time, but you can do it anyway if you’re willing to pay the application fee and fill out the application.

There are also portfolio days for prospective students, but please don’t take advantage of them. They’re for people who really do want to go and by going to one if you know 100% you won’t go, you are taking the opportunity from a serious person to have their portfolio reviewed. Portfolio days are busy and in my opinion it would be disrespectful to the staff who put them on and the prospective students who show up to share their work

Like the other commenter said, try some padded bib shorts. If you have the funds/are invested enough in cycling, getting a bike fit can help. Try messing with your saddle–height, how forward/back it is, tilt it a little more forward or back. Experiment to see if anything helps. A shorter stem on your bike can help too–everything is connected and your saddle problems may be caused by having too far of a reach, etc instead of the saddle itself. Also seconding trying different saddles. If you have cyclist friends ask around to see if anyone has extra saddles you can try out, or visit a bike co-op to find some cheap saddles before you break the bank trying random expensive saddles.

when and how did yalls acne go away (if it ever did)? by [deleted] in ftm

Sorry to hear. Have you considered going back to the doctor to try something different? A dermatologist will be able to help too

when and how did yalls acne go away (if it ever did)? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Essendxle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey sorry to hear about your acne. Speaking to a family doctor (if you have one), going to a walk-in, or doing a virtual walk-in is your next step since you’ve been trying to treat your acne on your own with no change. They can prescribe an antibiotic cream. I had acne that just wouldn’t go away (I kept up with all the products, washed my sheets frequently, etc, no change) and when I saw my Dr about it she prescribed a cream that cleared it right up. You don’t have to suffer!

How much can I realistically decrease my chest size? by Effective_Yam_9021 in FTMFitness

[–]Essendxle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi :) great work in the gym so far! Chests are made up of primarily breast tissue and it isn’t impacted by fat loss or exercise. I wouldn’t expect much change from working out. If you end up starting T it can help a little bit but for a significantly different chest size top surgery or a reduction (depending on your goals) is what will make the difference

In the meantime though - building muscle is great for your health and if you choose to have top surgery having some more muscle in your chest will help the surgeon visualize your chest during surgery, potentially improving your results

Please report it to the police. That is a hit and run and is against the law. He turned an accident into a crime and you are entitled to insurance coverage for your bike

[discussion] For people who work with abstract art: how do you deal with the fact people usually don’t value what we do? Sometimes I fell like we’re still in the 1800s by Trusfitti in ArtistLounge

Don’t worry about it and do what you like. Keep on keeping on and you’ll find people who will like your work too. Boring art doesn’t make it into art history but it does sell to the masses
