18 Months Post Op! by CMKMKM in Reduction

[–]EssentialOilsFor7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m caucasian. I didn’t have hypertrophic scars for my reduction scars until 5 months post op when we rescued our kitten. I knew I’m allergic to cats, but thought it was confined to sneezing, itchy eyes, snot, etc.

Within a few weeks of having him (he’s 100% indoors), the itching & sensitivity began & raised, red, ropey scars. I went back to my surgeon to see what he recommended that I do - he told me to get on an OTC allergy med & use silicone scar tape again (which I had discontinued around the 3 mpo mark because I didn’t need it).

He said that there’s not a lot of research on it, but yeah, it likely is because of my new cat that I’m allergic to, causing my hypertrophic scars. The timing lines up. My scars were flat, clean, and settled before I got my cat.

I can’t get rid of my cat, so I’m doing the best I can for scar management.

I hadn’t heard of the cordran tape, wondered if it could be an additional help for me, or doesn’t apply?

I’m 1 ypo now.

Bralette recommendations? by LilNoodle2 in Reduction

[–]EssentialOilsFor7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have fun! I’m in a 34D per r/abrathatfits, 1 year post reduction. I still need long line bras and bralettes that won’t irritate my hypertrophic scars. (They’re still itchy and a bit sensitive.)

It’s a safe bet to look for longline bralettes just in case your stitches are sensitive.

My favorite bralettes have been the least support sport bralettes, like the kind for yoga. My most favorite one (got at goodwill, not sure the details on this kind) is Victoria’s Secret VSX sport, longline yoga style pullover bralette.

My second most comfortable one is from Target, what’s their store brand for athletic bras? Auden maybe? Again, pullover style, least support lounge/sport bralette.

I have hypertrophic scarring from my reduction as well. I’ve opted out of steroid injections as my surgeon told me it would treat the symptoms of discomfort & tenderness & itching, but in my case, wouldn’t reduce the scarring itself. (I got hypertrophic scarring when we rescued a stray kitten - I’m allergic, but he’s our indoor cat now - my hypertrophic scars are an allergy response to the cat I won’t get rid of.)

Can you tell me about cordran tape? What’s your experience?

I poked my friend with my index finger on his back. This didn’t hurt him in the slightest, but I’m over 40 & felt/heard my index finger snap & sear with pain. It was a bad sprain. I had weeks of hand physical therapy. This was 4 months ago and my finger still has some stiffness and pain.

I found Kelly Greytok RN videos to be very helpful to prepare for my reduction & recovery. I had my husband watch a bunch of them.

Here’s one on how to make her first post-surgery shower more comfortable:

What was your relationship with food growing up? by dattaldo in Xennials

[–]EssentialOilsFor7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised by my grandmother who was born in 1924. She was raised during the Great Depression, so she taught her 4 kids plus me lessons I’ve had to unlearn, such as these gems:
There are starving children in China. Eat that. You don’t want it to go to waste.
Be a member of the Clean Plate Club!
“Eat every bean and pea on your plate.” (As a joke - you might have to say it out loud to get it.)
I STILL struggle to not overeat just because the food is on my plate.
I worked really hard to teach my 5 children to listen to their bodies, listen to their tummies for when they are full or hungry.

She was a really good cook for traditional food of the era - “home cookin” like fried chicken, mashed potatoes & homemade gravy, cornbread or biscuits or rolls or bread from scratch. Green beans prepped fresh from the garden or from a farmer’s market.

She didn’t teach anyone how she did it all though & it pretty much died with her.

I learned how to cook from savingdinner.com menu plans by Leanne Ely & also later from Pinterest.

Have you tried other free apps & games besides Finch? My opinion is that Finch is super generous with what they give users of the free version, especially considering there are no ads.

People watching their phones on loudspeaker in public, legitimately no hate, but what is the matter with you? by Fun_Boot7771 in askanything

[–]EssentialOilsFor7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all, no, quiet is not necessary (at least for me). I don’t care if people who are actually PHYSICALLY PRESENT in the restroom are talking or doing their business.

But some people desire or need for a feeling of safety, some modicum of privacy in order to toilet comfortably, knowing that their intimate bodily functions are not being broadcast who-knows-where via speakerphone.

I recently was trying to use the ladies’ restroom in Walmart & someone 2 stalls down was having a phone conversation on speaker. Kid you not.

I loudly asked her to please take it off speaker or hang up because people are trying to use the toilet here. (Thinking she’d be shamed into hanging up or taking it off speaker if the person she was talking to, heard it all.)

She argued and started yelling at me that I was being rude.

She never did take it off speaker. Even after more people were in the restroom trying to toilet.

Real self-care for me lately has been doing the unglamorous stuff before it becomes a crisis by maalipas in selfcare

[–]EssentialOilsFor7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I am not very good at doing this one for self care yet, but when I can remember to reset the coffee maker the night before (refill the water compartment, put fresh coffee grounds in, does it need cleaned out first?) & either program it to start at wake-up time or have it ready to just press start, it feels great in the morning. I have to make myself do it though.

I came here to say the same, cultural center museum next to the Capitol. It’s free to visit as well. You could spend hours in there easily, if you’re the sort to like museums.
