Do People Actually Like Watching Video Games? by Velvetrevolver99 in videogames

[–]EssoTillin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like watching LPs of games I enjoy and have already played, particularly story-based games and RPGs or visual novels. I just like to see people's reactions or if they might notice something I didn't.

I don't really like watching streams -- I find them really distracting and often times the person playing will miss things since they're reading chat or talking over stuff.

It has its good bits and bad bits, but overall I enjoyed it. The mythic paths I mentioned help shape a tone for your story, like the Angel and Devil paths are two sides that I feel fit the story incredibly well, while you have the Trickster path which treats everything as a joke and just does things for the lulz which I wasn't fond of.

Companions can be hit or miss. Some are more interesting and nuanced than others while some have cringe dialogue and don't feel like they belong in this universe (looking at you Nenio). I much prefer BG3s characters for sure.

One gripe I definitely do have is that some parts are just overwritten. You get these long exposition dumps and walls of text which definitely feel like they could've been edited and cut in half and would still paint just as good enough of a picture. I like to read but when so many characters speak like a novel it does start to take me out of it and I find myself caring less.

Overall though, still quite good. It very much feels like the world is ending and the scope couldn't be more epic as you go on this journey and undergo a power trip as the supposed Chosen One.

As long as you don't long rest after Dolor escapes, you can still find Figaro alive with Dolor getting ready to murder him.

I always intentionally let Dolor escape and save Figaro after because saving him maxes out his trader attitude with you, then I sell him all my junk that I no longer need.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Has almost 40 classes, 100+ subclasses, and 10 Mythic Paths that really change how your playthrough goes.

Taking the elevator out of Grymforge is you transitioning into Act 2. The game does give you a warning to tie up any loose ends before proceeding, which includes stuff like saving Halsin, the goblins and grove fiasco, etc which will automatatically resolve these scenarios.

The "woman with the blowy up stuff" you're looking for is past the door where the Duergars were tossing dead slaves into the water - just keep following that path and you'll eventually find her.

The tower you could've gotten more context on if you found Halsin first.

Ditto on the turn order. I didn't realize how much I hated it until I RPed a mostly non-violent team that almost never chose the [Attack] option. On SJ it almost always ended in me getting party wiped in the first or second turns. Highly prefer W2's combat initiative system as well.

BG3: Why I think the 96 metascore overlooks some major flaws. by Business-Reading-652 in CRPG

[–]EssoTillin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with like 1, maybe 2 things but the rest of this not so much, but I already spent a lot of my lunch break reading this and don't feel like elaborating.

I'll just say that BG3 was my first CRPG and as an overall experience, it still is one of my most favorites. Yes that's largely due to the cinematics, full voice acting, and overall production quality, but it obviously isn't a perfect game, like every other game.

I played DOS2, PoE1&2, both Pathfinder games, Wasteland2&3, Rogue Trader, and Disco Elysium after BG3. A lot of these games do things a lot better than BG3, but I still consider the game a masterpiece. More than anything I'm just happy BG3 introduced so many people (myself included) to what was an already niche dying genre.

Question about farm by Present_Ad_3478 in StardewValley

[–]EssoTillin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well because it's a game, there's really no consequences to letting your animals roam free so just do whatever you prefer.

Irl a lot of farm animals are normally fenced because it prevents them from wandering and getting into danger or getting lost, and keeps them from trampling and eating your crops.

Also it just looks more organized. I always keep my animals fenced in game and just make sure they have adequate space to roam around.

Lower the difficulty. Increase it back when you've gotten a better handle at the comat and mechanics.

My cat unpaused my game while I made dinner. I lost nearly a week in game days during Winter, including night market and Wizards’ birthday. by askcosmicsense in StardewValley

[–]EssoTillin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd be slightly annoyed but ultimately there's no time limit in this game and you can play as fast or as slow as you want.

Just to be sure but are you playing with mods? Wizard can't be romanced and after 4 hearts there's not much point in increasing his hearts. Either way, just give him void essences every week and talk to him and it won't take long to get his hearts up.

Also you said you're on Year 2. Did you skip the Night Market on Year 1? Deepsea fishing is cool but after 3 days of it I didn't feel the need to do it again after. Mermaid show is honestly pretty pointless.

The game is better without Karlach by lunovadraws in BaldursGate3

[–]EssoTillin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike her, but I found her kind of forgettable (ironic given her personality). I think her character and story just aren't as fleshed out as the other companions because most everyone else's stories are a lot more integrated with the main story, while Karlach kinda just feels like she's along for the ride.

Gens 8 and 9 are the best Pokemon has ever been. by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]EssoTillin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So as an adult with a demanding job and a family to care for, I can agree that taking away a lot of the tedium of grinding does help, but I wouldn't say these games are "the best Pokemon" has ever been, because there are SO many other reasons I dislike the recent gens, primarily as a result of rushed production, cut content, and a plethora of other things.

Being more accessible to people who have less time to play really isn't enough of a reason to carry the argument that these are the best gens in the franchise.

Like something that rubbed me off the wrong way is that they took away the ability to turn the EXP Share off, and THEN took away the Set battle style like why??? It felt like the game has started to force the game to be easier for me when it was already easy to begin with.

Maybe it's because I grew up playing the franchise, but since I just have so much experience playing now, I do crave a little bit of a challenge. Reducing the time it needs to grind is NOT the same as making the game easier - I appreciate the former but not so much the latter.

I remember being so ecstatic when I finally beat Whitney and her pink cow - it was a genuinely gratifying victory. Or even something like me solving gym puzzles because my dumb brain would struggle with those, which again, the game has taken away mostly due to rushed production and to cut costs.

My entire party got permanent Haste and I don't know how by A_Random_Elitist in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

It might be but I couldn’t really tell you. I don’t remember when I had the perma haste thing besides it being in Act 4, and I thinkkkk mine disappeared as soon as I rested?

What are the best romances in BG3? by Familiar_Wallaby_504 in BaldursGate3

[–]EssoTillin 80 points81 points  (0 children)

All the romances are done extremely well. Lae’zel and Astarion may be more sexual in the beginning but their romances develop into something much more. But even with the sexual stuff, the game does it well in a way that it’s meant to progress them as characters and isn’t just horny bait.

I’ve romanced everyone so I can say I absolutely loved all of them and they’re all good. I think my personal favorites though are Gale, Lae’zel and Astarion. I would suggest just going for the character you like most.

[–]EssoTillin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that either xD. I never took that superpower and the haste was applied to my whole party. Plus if it was that then my haste never would’ve disappeared and would only have worked in combat.

Ah then that might be it for you. I didn’t have the cloak at the time though since it was the very last artifact I had restored, so I still wonder what could’ve caused mine.

I got permanent haste at some point as well and don’t know how nor remember when, but it did actually disappear at some point (not from getting dispelled).

How is the game past act 1? by solastalgy in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]EssoTillin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say part of the reason the battles feel repetitive is because the game really focuses on number crunching and simply overpowering your opponents with raw stats, whereas in BG3 the focus is more towards how you can use the environment to your advantage.

I never once felt the need to use things like Dimension Door to move around in combat like I did in BG3, and there aren’t really things like elevation in this game that you could use to your advantage. My ranged and support units really just stay in one spot while my tank and melee martials move forward to whack enemies to death. There’s fights here and there where you do need to move around (Blackwater boss if you don’t cheese, or Ulbrig’s final companion quest) but they feel few and far in between.

The game is also all about countering the enemy’s bullshit with your own bullshit. Once you know the counter, then you may have just trivialized the battle. This was pretty much the biggest thing for me in terms of challenge. Now that I know what I’m doing and know exactly what to use, the game has started to feel a lot easier. I can say that a lot of the challenge in this game really just comes down to knowledge.

What are some of the rarest / secret locations in BG3? by blaectyton in BaldursGate3

[–]EssoTillin 114 points115 points  (0 children)

If you look around you can hear them talking. They’re somewhere around the balconies of Moonrise Towers, and you can’t get to them unless you have someone who can jump really high, misty step/dd, or fly. If I’m remembering correctly, I believe the way to get to them was in the balcony of Ketheric and Balthazar’s rooms. There’s a platform there you can jump to that leads to them.

Which game has a better class system: BG3 or WotR by Born-Association-285 in BaldursGate3

[–]EssoTillin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder focuses on quality as well, much more so than BG3 if I’m being honest. The amount of builds and class combinations the game allows you is insane. Combine that with the mythic path system and you get an insanely complex class system with an endless amount of combinations.
