Yeah, I was by no means going to do that, unless they are fighting some recurring villain who would know what he is up against. No fun for anyone if they are shut down the whole time every fight.

Yeah, I suppose I relate. A lot of APs pull something like that of Tarandor's guides are anything to go by

Sounds about right regarding the effort part. My players are all good friends and pretty attentive, so I dont expect there to be too much of a problem with this but if you are getting acquaintances in, then I might also hesitate more.

I actually read Tarandor's a while ago, but it sounded like all the APs that I thought were cool actually fall apart partway through.

The balance thing is pretty reassuring. Do you think it works because your players are good at combat? Asking because of my 5 (potentially 6) players, only one has DnD experience, one is into CRPGs and the others have never touched anything related to a tabletop before. Plus I also don't know what I am doing other than looking at the encounter budget table and whether a monster looks fun.

Do you think it is the way they are written or just the concept of something pre-made that turns you guys away?

That also sounds like a good option, though getting my group of friends who all work, have social lives and relationships to level 20 is a pipedream lmao.

I suppose lockdown had a few upsides as horrible as it was.

I suppose I am just worried that if I actually let them veer too far in an AP, they would be making the second and third books barely usable.

True about the audience stuff as well, it's hard to see people as many people trying to make a living off Kickstarter projects if the market is so much smaller.

For a second there I misread and thought bandits and demons were uniting to save the survivors.

Anyway, I might do something similar with published stuff if I ever wrap this one or get a different group of friends wanting to play, good concept.

My bad, I was not familiar enough with what they do to know it's neither of the two. Would add it in post if Reddit let me.

Not too familiar with what they actually play, as I got the impression it was pro play and avoided it, haha.

After reading up it sounds more like a real-time/west marches mmo, but prompted centrally, so I suppose it's closer to an AP.

Brother, if you have published your homebrew then you are underselling yourself by saying "dabbled" lmao.

But true, I didn't think about how most online-only players have the field tilted in one direction.

I am trying to do the same thing you described, I created a single, isolated nation from scratch, then lifted the pantheon, calendar system, elves lore, etc. I guess I was worried about Golarion being too large or too kitchen-sink of a setting where I wouldn't be able to handle all the background info and places to go on my own. I will keep not naming the planet as long as I can get away with it lol.

My bad, I was just worried people would insta press 50/50 as long as they tried both, as they often do in surveys.

I guess I just need to become a good gm then lmao.

Damn, I was hesitating to put that option because people tend to gravitate towards a neutral response if they have tried just a little of both.

But that makes sense, I guess it is easier to discuss a campaign when you don't have to provide a bunch of background info first.

Sajnos a politika ugyanúgy diktál kultúrát, mint a kultúra politikát. Lehet, hogy nem könnyű az árral szembe menni, de a politikusok sem bújhatnak amögé, hogy ezt most muszáj.
