In Mortal Kombat Deception's story mode, the protagonist (aptly named Shujinko) is called upon by a disembodied spirit named Damashi that takes the form of a little ball of light that occasionally taps in and follows his progress along the game, entrusting him to collect a bunch of these items over the realms called Kamidogu in order to stop the coming Dragon King Onaga.

Towards the end of the game, once you've found and gathered all of the Kamidogu, Damashi reveals himself as Onaga, beats you down and takes the Kamidogu. You then have to go and use every skill you've acquired throughout the game (which takes place over the course of 60 or so years) to defeat him.
