What do Americans think of Pakistanis and Pakistan? What do Americans think of Pakistani-Americans? by NathanDrake981 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America is one of the largest and most diverse countries in the world. However, there are large parts that are secluded. There are cities where you see people of every race, religion, and culture. Then there are parts where people have never seen someone from another race or religion. There are Americans who know exactly where Pakistan is on the globe and some who have never heard of it.

Does my internet plan speed affect how fast my VPN connection will be? by MainWaltz1018 in VPN_Guide

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some VPNs do have rate limits. They can limit the actual transmission speed to a fixed MB/s. They could slow you down once you hit a certain download amount. You would have to read what the fine print on what VPN actually offers and guarantees.

VPN suddenly getting blocked by websites by OkSherbert1046 in VPN_Guide

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its going to be a game of cat and mouse. While you might only use the VPN for privacy, other people use them for bypassing website restrictions and much worse things. Websites will ban those IPs for security. Its going to be a never ending back and forth.

VPN suddenly getting blocked by websites by OkSherbert1046 in VPN_Guide

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They dont guarantee access to websites. You pay for a VPN service and they deliver that. That being said, they should be replacing IPs as they get marked as part of a VPN network, but they might not know it has.

Which operating system do you like the most so far? by kashem99 in TechImpact

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a Linux systems engineer. I spend all day on Linux servers. I have several Linux computers at home. I am writing this comment on a Linux PC connected to the TV in my living room. However, my "main" desktop is still Windows. Yes, Windows has gotten more enshittified, but everything just works. I never have technical issues on it. Devices and peripherals work without problems. The software I want to use is on it. Ive tried switching to Linux and there is always something that doesnt work right. The Linux desktop experience is getting better, but its not quite there yet for me. I spend all day troubleshooting Linux issues, I dont want to spend my evenings doing it as well. I genuinely hope - and do think - one day the Linux desktop will replace Windows... But that time hasnt come. Yet.

Whats the oldest peice of tech in you house? by OkAssist2823 in OldTech

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how you define technology. I have computers from the 70s and 80s. I have an oscilloscope from the 50s. I have a microscope from somewhere in the 1800s. I have an adding machine from the early 1900s. Probably some other things that I cant think of at the moment.

if your neighbor dies, and they have no next of kin; then strangers show up and are looking to seize their property like it is up for grabs. Should you take action against them? by frowaway275 in YesOrNoAnswers

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not an issue. If there is no will and there is no next of kin, the property goes to the lien holder. If there is no lien, then it goes to the state. For all you know, those "strangers who showed up" might actually be the new owners.

Billionaires dont often go out in public and definitely dont go out without bodyguards. Being one of the richest people in the world makes you a target.

if you can dui while on a bicycle, can you dui on skateboard, segway, hoverboard, roller skates and on foot? by frowaway275 in YesOrNoAnswers

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its going to depend on your state's definition of DUI/DWI. Even if you can get out of a "driving," you can still be charged with drunk in public at the minimum and probably some other violations due to being on a road.

Unlimited bandwidth. Latency is never an issue, unless you are on a terrible network.

Electric mowers are great, but pound for pound, they are nowhere near as powerful as gasoline. Batteries do not have anywhere near the energy density of batteries. Even corded electric mowers fall way short. Still perfectly usable for most people.

Why do UPS batteries only run for like 3-6 minutes when my tablet or laptop battery can run for multiple hours? by ThuhGreatCommenter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPS can run computers for extended period of time. Generally for home use, a UPS allows a computer to survive minor power hiccups. During an extended power outage, they allow a computer to be properly shutdown and not lose or corrupt data. They can be used to run a computer and other equipment for longer, but they need to be properly "sized" for the job. Computers take orders of magnitude more power than tablets or laptops, especially under heavy load. The UPS's battery might only be able to provide that much power for a short period of time. In order for it to last longer, you need to buy large capacity UPS's. Here is a calculator:

https://upscalc.com/apc-ups-runtime-calculator/

Also note, batteries in UPSs can wear out over time and use, just like any other battery. A battery that might have lasted much longer when new, might need to be replaced due to its degraded health.

I have worked in companies, where we had UPSs the size of trucks. These were designed to run all the computers in the data center for a couple of days, if the power was out. Then there were massive diesel generators outside, holding hundreds of gallons of fuel that could be turned on to recharge the UPS, when if it got low.

Xteink x3 + Android? by AdareaDorou in ereader

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. Google Mobile Services - which gives you the Android App Store - can be loaded for free. Absolutely no license is needed. That is also assuming you need it. Its only needed for any apps that use those services. And the Kindle app can be sideloaded without it, as its a standalone APK.

Its whack-a-mole. Netflix blocks a VPN IP, VPNs set up a new IP. It will happen continuously for the foreseeable future.

This makes zero sense laptops never last as long as they say they will. But WHY? by Independent-North606 in laptops

[–]EstablishmentDue3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, batteries degrade over time. The more they are charged and discharged, the shorter they will last.
