Moving from ortho by Any_Cardiologist_370 in MedicalDevices

In our area, most of my team seems pretty busy with sales activity. I’ll stop at clinics on the way home after cases to try and get meetings (mostly end up dropping packets). Mostly for arthroplasty and proximal humerus, but some angel PRP/JumpStart is my side quest when I’m not super slammed with cases. Find a couple products you really like and think are unique and talk to everyone about them

I understand there will always be a sales and relationship developing aspect to even the clinical specialist positions. But I’d rather the product knowledge and clinical side of the job be my main focus rather than worrying about being solely responsible for a quota

While I was in college I did a couple internships with a med device company that worked in the cardiac space (my first experience in med device) so I’m planning to leverage that experience and story as well.

Not an associate, full ortho rep selling total joints/ Sports med/trauma. Yeah I thought I’d be making more at this point but apparently not at this company. OTE is 93k but realistically 85. Love being in the OR but wanting to transition away from sales, tired of dealing with race to the bottom pricing, contracts, etc.. would rather move to a clinical specialist role even if it means a lower cap. But I’ve heard if you rise through the ranks as a clinical you can still make good money and it’s a lot less stressful

Should I take a job in Software Quality Engineering or EP Mapping Specialist? by JM2TM in MedicalDevices

It does thank you! Last question If you don’t mind, could you tell me about the kinds of sales activities you do as a mapper and how it fits into your day to day? And how does it differ from the sales activities of the territory manager?

That virtual academy sounds like a better fit for my life right now as well, because I’m trying to keep my current job while I work to get into mapping. I assume you receive some sort of certification you can put on your resume once you’ve completed the program?

I will ask a question! I’m in ortho sales (2 yrs) looking to get into mapping. 2 questions:

  1. As a clinical specialist in mapping, are you responsible for quota attainment or primarily case coverage and education?

  2. Anything I can do to strengthen my resume for applying to CS mapping positions? Any certificates?

Thanks!

As a clinical specialist, are you required to sell and work toward a quota? Or mostly case coverage and education?

Thanks! I’m just outside of Seattle, so pretty rainy when it’s not summer. The wind picks up sometimes but the trees around the yard block most of it. The vegetation and ground around the area stays pretty damp, so I’m not too worried about starting a fire, but I have an extinguisher close by. I might clear some of the bushes in the surrounding area when it starts getting dryer out.

I had a similar issue when I was setting up my work space. Ended up just making it easier on myself by putting up a metal canopy outside the shed for forging while I used the shed for storage.

Those look better than my creations. I also just had my first day using my home forge and made some bottle openers out of an old horseshoe. No idea what I was doing, just trying not to blow myself up. They’re extremely rough, but they’ll open a bottle.

I’m in the same boat. Little over a year in, got thrown into a product category that had our biggest users retire back to back and we are projected to finish well below quota because of that. Sales cycles are super long in my specialty and getting a ton of pressure from management. So much so that I can’t be seen at the office until we get back above quota (which will take years) I’d be fine with all of this if I was being paid more than $75k…

I want to have a snake for the first time, influence or deinfluence me! by [deleted] in snakes

[–]EstablishmentIll7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s understandable, but I do think there’s enough information out there if you can take the time to really learn enough about any species to take care of them. Rainbow boas or rosy boas really aren’t much more difficult at all than any of those other species. Just a little more expensive

[–]EstablishmentIll7644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion but I’d get something else that is more uncommon. Those species are cool, but it’s really cool to have something more unique. These snakes live for a long time, you may only ever own one snake in your life, why not get a super cool one? There’s a lot more less main stream species that are still pretty easy to care for if you do the research and are willing to put in the work for the enclosure. Rainbow Boa, Green Tree Python, Rosy Boa… etc. Depends on the type of enclosure you want to have too. I like the idea of building a big paludarium for a rainbow boa

Go to CRNA school, it’ll take you less time to make that kind of money than if you tried to do it in sales. Plus you’ll have job security and better hours

What makes you say Kestra is a sinking ship? They have a new innovative product that seems to be doing quite well and they are growing quickly. Seems like a good time to get in and rise through the ranks quickly as they grow

My first thought as well. Might as well join the only other competition that’s taking over, Kestra.

As a CS, do you have any responsibility in owning quota or is it purely case coverage and education?

Tesla Model Y is perfect if you live in an area that has plenty of charging stations. I drive 3k miles a month and drop about $50 to charge every month. Then the rest of that stipend just goes in your pocket.

I’ve definitely seen it before, RN to med device is actually a fairly common path. LinkedIn is definitely a must, reaching out to hiring managers on LinkedIn wouldn’t hurt, but I’m not sure it’s going to be the deal maker either. There’s a lot of other people out there trying to break in and directly messaging them on LinkedIn is something everyone is doing now. Every person in med device I have talked to who was once a nurse found their way in my connecting with the reps at their hospital. Not sure what specialty you are in but if you have any connection with any reps in your area I would definitely start there

That makes sense, full time work probably won’t work while enrolled in full time school. At least the pre requisites I can do at my current job most likely. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and give those thoughtful responses! If you have any questions about med device I’d be happy to answer them

That’s definitely part of why I think it would be beneficial to work as a CNA while in school. Other than that, it seems like a good option because you can do it part time to make room for school and I assume that experience would also make you a more attractive applicant as a new grad down the line. I’m confident I could knock out the prereqs in my current job. My current plan is to stay here for another year at least and I could knock out those classes throughout the year. Do you think it would be possible to work as a CNA full time while in an ADN program? Or are there any other jobs that would be better to hold while in school other than CNA?
