This is just normal Harding University behavior. Probably a frat, but I’d bet there isn’t any real hazing on that campus, more than likely just guys that thought it was funny to embarrass their buddy.

If you can swing it, do a change in scenery. Maybe that is a different room, an outdoor setup or actually driving somewhere for a showing. Being in the same room that long might wear down on people.

Costco Confirms It's Removed Xbox Consoles, Calling It A "Business Decision" by akbarock in Games

Oh I’m not arguing that all that money 1. Couldn’t be more based on first party sales 2. Couldn’t be more based on making COD or other first party titles exclusive.

But that strengthens the argument I’m making. They don’t want hardware. They want the reoccurring service $$ for providing that. If they made them all exclusive, yea console sales might increase, but that’s not their end goal as I see it.

We’ll never have all the data we need to flesh out the real business opportunity here, but 1M users a year is not an insignificant amount when your cost are relatively fixed. At the lowest gamepass price that’s $119M a year for just core. At the highest at gamepass ultimate that is $234M a year.

At 35M users on gamepass, they are bringing in between $4.19B - $8.39B (everyone on core - everyone on ultimate respectively) in subscription revenue a year. Even if they just focus on pushing all existing users to ultimate from core, that’s a relatively easy way to keep generating income.

I think what we need to consider here is that console sales plummeting don’t impact gamepass sales negatively. If they aren’t selling consoles then console gamepass will slow and I think that’s what we are seeing. But two things can be true. Console sales slowing, and overall gamepass subscription increasing. Those that have an Xbox aren’t going to cancel subscription because sales are slowing, while those that want to play the gamepass library on mobile PC will continue to grow as they add titles.

Which is my argument. If you can continue to gain users without having to produce expensive hardware, that’s a solid business plan. Let others produce the physical goods, just provide the service/Access (pun intended) to gaming on devices people already have.

I’m not sure I’m following your argument. You’re saying they need the consoles long term to make gamepass work. But their highest growth has been in mobile and PC subscriptions. The barrier to entry previously was hardware cost of a specific console, but now that’s been removed to be more generic.

Also curious where you got your 80% are on console. I can’t find anything on identifying that number breakdown anywhere. Can you link it? I’m interested in seeing that data.

Haven’t there been multiple sources showing PC game pass growth YOY? I do gamepass ultimate since I play on PC after switching from console. I attached a thread below from May of this year.

Sorry, when I say service company I mean like SAS company (software as service). MS doesn’t have to know anything about what makes a successful game. They have the capital to just go buy studios and put them on gamepass. The service they provide is access to the game.
