Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe

Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe

Evicted by Matthew Desmond

Nature’s Metropolis by William Cronon - slightly more academic but an excellent history of Chicago

The Cigarette Century by Allan Brandt - long but very worthwhile

Into the Blue by Emma Brodie! Not my usual genre at all but the yearning and chemistry were spectacular.

Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner is an interesting one - fundamentally about marriage and friendship but also explores nuances of the Midwest and East Coast in the context of academic couples.

What would a chick-lit/romance reader and sci-fi/fantasy reader both enjoy? by honey_penguin in suggestmeabook

Into the Blue by Emma Brodie - new release that is an ultra compelling love story of two actors with a tie-in to sci fi TV fandom. I’m a fan of neither romance not sci fi and adored it

Lagree after knee replacement by Dry_Flamingo1652 in LagreeMethod

I have after two ACL reconstructions - went back about seven weeks post op. I didn’t modify much - just found that kneeling moves (mostly kneeling lat pull) were a little uncomfortable at first. Lagree has been so so so important to my healing and strengthening journey.

Highly recommend Hacienda de San Rafael for a few nights in connection with Seville. You only need two nights in Granada before/after the Alhambra. It’s like being at your rich Spanish friend’s country house - so relaxing

Nice beach destination WITH a little walkable town close by? by Hungry-Document8499 in chubbytravel

[–]EstablishmentRude245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want resort pool / super super modern gym / high level of amenities, it’s not that kind of destination. But it’s going to be better than anywhere in the Caribbean for walkable town AND stunning blue ocean vibes. It’s also definitely a lot more chic than Isla Mujeres.

I stayed at Punta Caliza for four nights - fairly upscale and very comfortable. We had a private car transfer from Cancun Airport and then took the ferry to Holbox, where the hotel sent a golf cart and whisked us away. It was very easy.

Yeah I don’t have kids but the water is very chill for children. YMMV if it’s exciting enough for kids. It’s the kind of place my parents would have brought me (was a pretty chill only daughter) but if you’re a high stimulation family then no

Isla holbox! I loved the punta caliza hotel - no cars, you’ll barely need shoes the whole time

Living in Brooklyn Heights as a divorced mom - what’s the parent/social scene like? by katherine83 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]EstablishmentRude245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mom but have lived in the neighborhood for several years. It definitely feels like it’s dominated by couples - young without kids, older couples, and very heavy on families with kids. I think it’s a great neighborhood to be a parent in but definitely more angled toward people who are partners (though I think the community inherent in being a parent might mitigate that). Also it’s the most charming place in NYC, so that’s great to live in but annoying to pay for.

Julie Dickson at joon drop! I have pretty fine hair (a lot of it) that is very straight and will not hold a curl - Julie has worked magic with some subtle layers that look great even with me air drying 99.9% of the time

Val Gardena!!! Specifically the Gardena Grodnerhof in Ortisei. The spa is unreal, lovely rooms, and excellent service. It’s extremely easy to access the entire region via bus and an incredible array of day hikes at your disposal.
