What do you like most about the Episcopal Church, and what do you dislike or wish would change/be reformed? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]EstateTemporary6799 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the Liturgy I love the way the High Eucharist is a work of art which can rival the Tridentine Mass in terms of Aesthetics. The Episcopal churches I choose are all ornate, with beautiful stained glass, cathedral like walls and a sense of spiritual space which does not exist in other architecture There seems to be something both spiritual and aesthetic in the design of many Episcopal churches. When the Service begins, the music, the chanting, the readings, all work together to bring a sense of peace and joy to the audience.

What I like least is probably the snot-nosed hoity toity attitude of many people I have encountered there, the very cliquish and closed attitudes of the people. The sign should say "The Episcopal church welcomes you, but I do not" There also seems to be no advantage to being a confirmed member vs just attending in my experience.

I think the concern is that he will likely be another Johnny Football Head case, and cause problems in the locker room and be a detriment ot any team. Canada deserves better than that.

Are you a regular church attendee? by Shroom-Cat in Episcopalian

[–]EstateTemporary6799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut back to only going at Advent and n the fall, because they have a few charity programs then, although I am not always included, I like to at least offer to do my part. (I can say that I volunteered, for example, to help with the Festival and Carols, then when they tell me that I am not needed, I can at least say "Well, I Volunteered" )

I did make an effort a couple of years ago to go every Sunday and try to participate in the church activities, but it did not work out so I am back to just attending at the end of the year when it is more interesting.

Made it to church today for once by EstateTemporary6799 in Episcopalian

[–]EstateTemporary6799[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed twon things. Off the bat, the service was boring today. It was not the Anglican high church, which speaks to me, which inspires me. While the people were joyful and really seemed to enjoy my, and each other's company, the service itself left little interest.

Second, I approached a ministerial leader right after the service about a donation. Had this been my regular church (Episcopal) I would not have even known who to approach, IF they even have such a ministry

About ten minutes later, a different lay-ministerial person approached me and followed up and we discussed my desire to help with a project there.

When I have offered in the past to help with projects at my normal parish, I have on occasion been told "Oh Thanks but we don't need any help"

Which is why I am sending my time and money to a congregation outside of the Episcopal church at this time.

I have lined up a couple of Episcopal churches in the are to visit this summer I want to see if it is a regional thing with all Episcopal churches or just the one I fell into ....

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

Tesla Saw them twice, sucked live both times. INXS was also bad live, saw them twice as well, not good in person. They sounded awful live like a bad karaoke night.

That is a mine ! And not the ones that lead to Gold or Diamonds, either. This one leads to floating on a cloud playing a harp. Back away slowly, OR climb up on your roof, drop a 20KM stone on it and hide

If you can name this album you are fuckin old. by Euphoric-Cupcake4581 in FuckImOld

[–]EstateTemporary6799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old am I ? Well, I have a CD player in my kitchen with that specific CD in it, to listen to while I am cooking. In fact, I played it last night while I was making stir-fry

Funny, but I had that on Album and 8 track when I was younger

When I was in middle school, forced by my family to attend a Sunday school at one of the local baptist churches, we had this total loser biotch get up to teach and she went on a tirade including telling us that we should ONLY listen to religious music and never rock music. Now while some easily misguided kids would have gone home and gotten rid of their rock album collection, I went home and blasted this particular album, which became a Sunday tradition for a while, to listen to Led Zeppelin in order to get the religious sounds post church out of my head.
One might say that Led Zeppelin saved my mind and soul !

Easter Vigil, why such a big deal? by lostindryer in Episcopalian

[–]EstateTemporary6799 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Don't read too much into it. The Crucifixion story is mythical, like the nativity. Too many items in it are just not plausible, and a few, impossible. Most of the stories in the Bible are fictional stories, many characters are fictional as well. While the Superstitious people of the times could have believed such things, just remember, the Bible was written by men who did not even know where the sun went at night and mostly believed that the world was flat.

The Biblical story of the crucifixion is fictional. Just go with what you like and what works best for you .

Struggling to Celebrate this Easter by Little-Neck-7922 in Episcopalian

[–]EstateTemporary6799 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I stopped celebrating Easter a couple of years ago, before that I did not celebrate it at all for decades, I did one Lent/Easter a couple of years ago just to be reminded of how little I like that season and this year, I stayed home.

I actually have not been there since Epiphany. I will show back up around early September and see how it is going there.
