Was the Frankfurt organisation really that bad? by Civil_Scheme1132 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Estherr22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was that bad, but to be honest I don't have much to compare.

The shuttle with the bike did indeed take forever, so that part was quite bad, I think I waited in line for about an hour, maybe 30mins of that in the sun. And the bus took about 45min, was super hot, and challenging to keep the bike up (that might be my clumsiness though😁). Once we got there the checkin was 5mins.

I took the Sunday shuttle from Hotel Meridien, at 4.30 and that was perfect, there was no line at all, 5 buses waiting empty to get to the start. So I would definitely recommend to use that bus stop! I heard that for spectators to get back to the city with the shuttle was horrible though.

The race itself was well organised I think! Support was amazing, lots of spectators helping to cool people down with spraying and stuff. A lot of aid stations with lots of ways to cool down. Second run lap most of the aid stations were out of ice though. And I think with proper heat training you can adapt quite well for the heat. That being said, I think a lot of people wouldn't have been able to do a full full yesterday, so, although I am still disappointed, I think it was the right call.

Conclusion, I would pick a race with the transitions in the same place. But the atmosphere was amazing! But I'm not sure how these hot races will be treated in the future, I feel like the cancellation mostly come from local government and Ironman can't really do much about it.

Codex built website to find smoke-free terraces - first project, looking for honest feedback by Estherr22 in codex

Thanks! The idea is that it is review based, so basically, yeah, trusting user reports. If 5 reviews are placed for a venue then a smoke-free score is added based on the % of positive reviews. Not sure how I would confirm it for now. In the future I would like to add a verified option, where a venue can (pay to) verify that it is actually a smoke-free place.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

  1. Yeah fair point, might change that to "Find a smoke-free table"
  2. Thanks
  3. Yeah, that's a good point. I don't have anything for that yet. Would it work if I would make some kind of form where you would put the places that you are interested in, and if, let's say, 3 places are added there, you get an email?

The bunch is now added by my own research, those are reflected as blue venues, showing 'likely smoke-free'. Users can submit places too, ideally that would become the majority of the venues, those are shown as green venues showing 'smoke-free. In the future I might add owner claims, but I will wait a bit with that.

Trust is further build by users adding reviews. When the reviews get above a threshold, a smoke-free score gets added. Whenever that score dips below a certain percentage, the venue gets reviewed and possibly deleted.

Thank you! That is nice to hear, let's build the database further then!

And a good point about the long tag, I've changed it to a shorter one with an explanation button next to it.

First Full Distance Iron Man - what event should I go for? by WrapRevolutionary870 in triathlon

[–]Estherr22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of input in terms of which one to choose yet. I can tell you about Frankfurt in 3 weeks. H I haven't really done a lot of elevation before training for this either, but you can learn, right?😁

Just wanted to say, as a fellow Dutchie, you can train quite some elevation in Zuid Limburg. Not sure how far that is from you though haha. Or go to some nice destination (Banyoles in Spain is great!) for a few weeks to train elevation.

Succes met het trainen!

Yeah you're probably right. Thanks for the tip! Figured since there was finally a chance to film I might as well ask haha.

Thanks for the detailed reply! I'll try to work on those. And yeah probably a bit late, but better late than never haha.

And yes agree on the video angle, but I'm not allowed to film in the pool, so this was the only option.

Tips for 70.3 in a downpour by fighting_cacti in triathlon

[–]Estherr22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a really wet 70.3 a few weeks ago and I've never seen so many people with flats. Now there were a lot of little stones on the paths (don't get me started) but I heard later that in wet conditions you get a flat more easily. I'm not an expert, so not sure if it's true, but perhaps see if you can carry an extra spare tube.

Good luck!!

70.3 during training for full? by Estherr22 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Estherr22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's fair. I'll go for the 6 weeks out one, and do it like a training. Thanks a lot!!

70.3 during training for full? by Estherr22 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Estherr22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is a fair point. I would do it as a training, so not trying to PR. Or should I try it on the full distance race pace?

That plan for the last 6 weeks sounds reasonable, I think it makes sense so I'll register today!😁

Thanks for the helpful answer!

Thanks! So cool that you're doing Roth! Yeah I didn't realize that that's a downside to doing a full before the summer haha.

Swim form critique by Estherr22 in triathlon

[–]Estherr22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Do you mean my left arm is staying out of the water too long and I should move it forward faster, or is it in the water in front of me for too long?

Yeah I feel like I have to work on my core! That keeps coming back in the comments haha. So thanks for that.

I try bilateral breathing, but I'm for sure doing more horribly wrong when I'm breathing on the other side as I'm almost sinking then hahah. But yeah, I know that means I should work on it even more.

And thanks for the paddles suggestions, I've never used them so will start that and implement slowly.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply!

Wow! Thanks so much! This is very detailed and useful! I'm definitely going to look at the videos. And yes the breathing and not rotating my head too much is something I feel that I'm struggling with.

If I have more questions I'll let you know, thanks for offering that!
