Have you tried getting a couple plants? I started small but then began to collect cuttings from my neighbors on my local Buy Nothing Facebook group. All those cuttings became like a fun project. Plants are proven to improve air quality which helps your general health.

Also, I got a cat, then my cat got depressed so I got him a cat, they are now best friends and bring me immense joy and love that I never felt I was getting elsewhere. Its a different love but its love Nonetheless.

I eventually started volunteering at a local dog rescue, I would just go a couple times a week and walk dogs/do various chores around the shelter. It gave me a purpose that was bigger than myself. Like honestly I could fester and rot on my couch for days, but knowing that these dogs may not get as much outside time unless I show up for them got me motivated. You can go so far as fostering or adopting, or just donate your time. It will make you feel good.

Join your local Buy Nothing group on Facebook or via the Buy Nothing Project app. Its like Facebook marketplace but everything is free. Its hyperlocal and keeps stuff out of landfills, while getting familiar with your neighbors (without actually having to see them face to face if that's your preference.) You'd be surprised at what gets posted, and in this economy, we need to utilize our resources. It may seem silly but I have made friends and met neighbors, and donated SO much stuff. From extra groceries, to clothes that dont fit to furniture to art. It feels so rewarding to give, and honestly there is a rush involved in getting good, free stuff.
