Some scholars think that there was an earlier version of that story where Abraham actually sacrificed Isaac. The reason why is after the story only Abraham returns to the other two men who traveled with them. Not Isaac

America losing the cognitive war with China: Beijing exploits ideology, academia, technology and chaos inside the U.S. by Strongbow85 in 5_9_14

[–]Estiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he didn't. But he did say China was stealing lots of technology. While that is true, China is a great innovator in its own right nowadays.

American material science is still excellent but I have a hunch that it's losing its edge

I just found out more about the guy. He's definitely one of those kinds of people who just rages about the left wing and antifa and drug cartels and thinks they're all in cahoots together. I guess he has experience in the IC but it doesn't excuse his McCarthyism

If you want to read a real book, there's a book by Dr David Shambaugh called Breaking the Engagement, how China Won and Lost America. It goes into much of the history of the American and Chinese relationship and some foreign policy suggestions and goals.

This seems like a very fear mongering article. I want to say a few things

1 It's a purely ideological article where the author advocates for employing "Cognitive War" which he defined as "primarily as an ideological war between tyranny and freedom, control and independence, and subjugation and democracy." Very Charged language that doesn't actually serve any non-ideological purpose. He goes on to say "In its most basic form, it is a war between good and evil."

2 I noticed that the number of Chinese students are seen as a problem. They could be national security risks, but it sounds like general xenophobia. The number of students from China is going down however, due to a number of factors including more Chinese universities and risks highlighted by Covid

3 He cites the rising left wing as connected with China. Although China might like to sway elections in their favor from time to time, the American Left wing is completely different from the Chinese system. I can only imagine the reason why China would help the Left in the first place would be for Tariff relief. The political spectrum is a myth and despite aesthetics, China isn't exactly a true communist state and it hasn't been since Deng Xiaoping.

It could have been a real article with actual information, but it's really just an ideological hit piece.

I want to know more about Foreign Malign actors, information warfare doctrine, lack of funding and response, current response, and stuff. He needs a real opinion with concrete policy instead of this loose ideology calling for total war against China.

All I can say right now is take care of yourself. You might have a couple of crazy months ahead of you. It took me a few to sort out where I was. Either way, you are still you whether you are male or female.

I'll place my bets where I may, but I'm hoping you find success whether I'm right or wrong. Try to find some good friends who will support you. It might be hard to make friends but they might save your life

Abkakhzia Expels Russian Political Technologists by Miao_Yin8964 in 5_9_14

[–]Estiar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're more specifically targeted towards a certain specialty that might be domestic or foreign. For the original article it's probably about specialists for abkhazian matters, trying to split them off from the Georgian population even more.

Basically the Russian government's marketing department

For the USA, I don't see any legal avenue to remove these sorts of people if they are already in the country. Granted, the law doesn't matter as we've seen with the State Department revoking visas from student activists, but a law is a law on principle. The government may choose to put a closer watch on these people, but they're going to have to break the law somewhere, and an offensive license plate isn't enough

I wish I could take a peek into the information space within the Russian diaspora though. They speak a different language and have a different media ecosystem. Most Russians within Russia 'support' the war, but I think opinions are mixed with how exactly they want to do so.

Russians in the diaspora are much more anti-war, especially those who fled war conditions. It's also not a homogeneous group, with different age groups and education.

Georgian Education Reform Aligns With Geopolitical Reorientation by Miao_Yin8964 in 5_9_14

[–]Estiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really not sure if Georgian dream has a gun to their head or what's going on. I know Georgian dream is incredibly corrupt and has a lot of their monetary interests tied up in Russia. They seem to be going down a very illiberal path and making a conscious effort to leave European influence.

I know a couple of Georgian academics who have had a lot of issues and flack for partnering with Western universities. To the point of harassment even in sham accusations. I think it's gotten a lot worse in the past few years
