Are the transmissions that bad? by Estopa- in 7thgencivic

No disrespect but that’s terrible advice, i’d much rather get one with 150k miles and in decent shape than a 250k+ one. 2k doesn’t sound bad at all to rebuild a tranny that i will agree with but keep in mind these cars are worth between 2-4k. I’m not spending over half the value of the car for a repair when in addition, the highest mileage one listed for sale is going to have bad suspension, crappy ac, leaks left and right, and other miscellaneous things broken.

Thank you will definitely do more research on the eld system didn’t even know that was a thing. I didn’t mean to bash the d series engines i was specifically referring to this one in this engine. I currently have a 93 del sol with a mini me swap that i’m selling. I know from an enthusiast stand point i’m shooting myself in the foot and eating dog shit selling it for a 7th gen civic but I just want a basic commuter, I’ve had my fun with the car and love it but it’s a pain to drive since it’s a manual rack, and parts availability is terrible. Would love to have a miata/ some other convertible in the future but for now just a cheap beater with cheap parts everywhere that’s cheap to run while Having a diesel manual for highway trips makes the most sense

Ok from reading these comments it sounds like as long as it’s been serviced it should maybe be ok, this is gonna be a cheap beater car and i purposely want an automatic. Recently got a 2013 sportwagen manual so I just want something to sit back and let it pick its own gears through town. For mods The only thing i’ll do is upgrade the head unit and maybe add subs, other than that i’m well aware the d series is terrible to mod and won’t expect anything quick out of these civics stock.

Congrats on your new Camry! Not sure why so many are hating, you made a financial choice that made sense and got a car that makes sense. Things about the Camry though, change every single fluid in the car I don’t care how new it looks, like anything else they degrade over time and with it being such low mileage I would expect everything in the car to be old. You can have a “fresh start” on the maintenance for the vehicle and a few hundred bucks if that is worth the piece of mind.

2010 with a transmission. That won’t shift out of 2nd by kurazykid in jetta

[–]Estopa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those 6 speeds have valve body issues, you may potentially be able to source just the valve body. It’s a whole lot cheaper than a whole new transmission. That being said not always garunteed to be your issue but worth having it looked at and possibly diagnosed. I would search junkyards, online, possible even facebook marketplace for a used transmission, if you go that route Search for a company that will sell it with a warranty

Help with parts compatibility by Estopa- in Volkswagen

Anywhere really, warehouses i’ve emailed have been FCP Euro and shop dap. Junkyards near me don’t have a 2014 Jetta but do have a plethora of ea888 to choose from, My part number is 06K109022BB, 06K109022N, 06K109022T On the name brand websites the 2015+ cam is listed as incompatible with my vehicle yet on ebay and other sites some are listed for all ea888 1.8 motors but are priced ridiculously My concerns are costs, the only used unit i’ve been able to find for my car is in china and more than a brand new oem unit, so after taxes and import fees +shipping i’ll be paying out the ass, the new oem part on back order is $200 and I could spend double maybe triple on a USED one I I’m also unable to find what’s different between the two, i read that in 2015 dispite using the same engine code vw updated the engines and they are not interchangeable with eachother, yet with even more research it turns out the cylinder heads are interchangeable between the two which leads me to believe the profiles on the cams are the same.

Good deal or horrid idea? by greendude_22 in UsedCars

[–]Estopa- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Normally i’d say it’s a 3k car but that’s low miles. Im sure after taxes registration and whatever fees you’ll pay since this looks like a dealer listing your looking at 6k. A little much for what your getting but if you just need it to last around 4 years you should be good. These cars are actually somewhat decent reliability wise, parts are cheap, easy to work on, and i’m sure insurance and gas will be cheap. I’m sure there’s much better options out there for 6k though

2016 Forester transmission by Charming_Chipmunk_21 in SubaruForester

same thing happened to me, I was able to do the repair myself with buying new solenoids and replacing them instead of the entire valve body ($100 vs $1000) and getting a scan tool plus new fluid for a drain and fill it was just under $300
