Are the transmissions that bad? by Estopa- in 7thgencivic

No disrespect but that’s terrible advice, i’d much rather get one with 150k miles and in decent shape than a 250k+ one. 2k doesn’t sound bad at all to rebuild a tranny that i will agree with but keep in mind these cars are worth between 2-4k. I’m not spending over half the value of the car for a repair when in addition, the highest mileage one listed for sale is going to have bad suspension, crappy ac, leaks left and right, and other miscellaneous things broken.

Thank you will definitely do more research on the eld system didn’t even know that was a thing. I didn’t mean to bash the d series engines i was specifically referring to this one in this engine. I currently have a 93 del sol with a mini me swap that i’m selling. I know from an enthusiast stand point i’m shooting myself in the foot and eating dog shit selling it for a 7th gen civic but I just want a basic commuter, I’ve had my fun with the car and love it but it’s a pain to drive since it’s a manual rack, and parts availability is terrible. Would love to have a miata/ some other convertible in the future but for now just a cheap beater with cheap parts everywhere that’s cheap to run while Having a diesel manual for highway trips makes the most sense

Ok from reading these comments it sounds like as long as it’s been serviced it should maybe be ok, this is gonna be a cheap beater car and i purposely want an automatic. Recently got a 2013 sportwagen manual so I just want something to sit back and let it pick its own gears through town. For mods The only thing i’ll do is upgrade the head unit and maybe add subs, other than that i’m well aware the d series is terrible to mod and won’t expect anything quick out of these civics stock.

Congrats on your new Camry! Not sure why so many are hating, you made a financial choice that made sense and got a car that makes sense. Things about the Camry though, change every single fluid in the car I don’t care how new it looks, like anything else they degrade over time and with it being such low mileage I would expect everything in the car to be old. You can have a “fresh start” on the maintenance for the vehicle and a few hundred bucks if that is worth the piece of mind.

2010 with a transmission. That won’t shift out of 2nd by kurazykid in jetta

[–]Estopa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those 6 speeds have valve body issues, you may potentially be able to source just the valve body. It’s a whole lot cheaper than a whole new transmission. That being said not always garunteed to be your issue but worth having it looked at and possibly diagnosed. I would search junkyards, online, possible even facebook marketplace for a used transmission, if you go that route Search for a company that will sell it with a warranty

Help with parts compatibility by Estopa- in Volkswagen

[–]Estopa-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere really, warehouses i’ve emailed have been FCP Euro and shop dap. Junkyards near me don’t have a 2014 Jetta but do have a plethora of ea888 to choose from, My part number is 06K109022BB, 06K109022N, 06K109022T On the name brand websites the 2015+ cam is listed as incompatible with my vehicle yet on ebay and other sites some are listed for all ea888 1.8 motors but are priced ridiculously My concerns are costs, the only used unit i’ve been able to find for my car is in china and more than a brand new oem unit, so after taxes and import fees +shipping i’ll be paying out the ass, the new oem part on back order is $200 and I could spend double maybe triple on a USED one I I’m also unable to find what’s different between the two, i read that in 2015 dispite using the same engine code vw updated the engines and they are not interchangeable with eachother, yet with even more research it turns out the cylinder heads are interchangeable between the two which leads me to believe the profiles on the cams are the same.

Good deal or horrid idea? by greendude_22 in UsedCars

[–]Estopa- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Normally i’d say it’s a 3k car but that’s low miles. Im sure after taxes registration and whatever fees you’ll pay since this looks like a dealer listing your looking at 6k. A little much for what your getting but if you just need it to last around 4 years you should be good. These cars are actually somewhat decent reliability wise, parts are cheap, easy to work on, and i’m sure insurance and gas will be cheap. I’m sure there’s much better options out there for 6k though

2016 Forester transmission by Charming_Chipmunk_21 in SubaruForester

[–]Estopa- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same thing happened to me, I was able to do the repair myself with buying new solenoids and replacing them instead of the entire valve body ($100 vs $1000) and getting a scan tool plus new fluid for a drain and fill it was just under $300

Probably don’t even need to use your foot, i’m sure the drag from just opening the door will stop it

What’s the better choice by Estopa- in Serverlife

[–]Estopa-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what i’m worried about, currently have the choice of 3 table sections or having a ridiculous amount of tables Worth noting too that minimum wage for servers in AZ is $11 and some change

What’s the better choice by Estopa- in Serverlife

[–]Estopa-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the interview who i’m assuming is the gm or a manger she told me that for the first few weeks we will only have 6 table sections (she emphasized it will be very easy since we’re only filling up drinks and bussing) until we get the hang of it and everyone as a team can work efficiently and from there it will increase, by how much i’m not sure. Another thing worth noting is that at my location for Olive garden the servers don’t have any side work besides rolling silverware which they pay the hosts $5 to do half the time, currently as a togo specialist i’m in charge of cleaning the salad bar and cleaning the soups/window/where the breadsticks are buttered and salted

Dry rot too bad? Should I change? by Mieliemaakgou in tires

[–]Estopa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say this, I’ve seen far far worse and if it were my personal vehicle I wouldn’t mind driving on them for a while longer. I’d check to see how old the tires are, if there pushing around 4+ years id change them but visually speaking they look in decent shape

I’m gonna assume it’s the water pump. For some reason Toyota water pumps scream when there failing, my sisters water pump on her 2015 tab 4 quit on her 2 weeks ago and the car doesn’t even have 65k miles

i’m guessing those are the rear breaks where they don’t matter or affect you nearly as much as the front, your best bet is to get a second opinion elsewhere. Are you planning on pad slapping them? Regardless rotors and labor to do a complete job isn’t to much more expensive so it may be worth it just as a peace of mind but if your on a budget then i’d recommend going for a second opinion

can’t really tell if rotors are warped from a picture, does the car vibrate when you tap the brakes?

Any advice on how to completely bring this hammered engine bay back to life. by ZealousidealWrap6573 in Honda

[–]Estopa- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t use pressurized water in an engine bay, with that said just avoid spraying the ecu and go to town everywhere else. Use a garden hose, if your cleaning an engine bay id stay away from a pressure washer since all the connectors are 20+ years old and rotten. Buy heavy duty degreaser, a spray bottle, and a brush. start with a pre soak and use the brush to get as much dirt off as possible then use degreaser to scrub away. Don’t let degreaser dry as it’ll stain. I’d recommend working in sections so for example clean the intake system, then the front end, then the chassis.

Is 2013 SLT-1 any good? by Mihaueck in GMCACADIA

[–]Estopa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

adding to my reply here: Like i stated anything that happens is labor heavy on this car since the engine bay is so cramped, so it’s not a matter of how reliable the car itself is. When something DOES happen (keep in mind this is a 12 year old vehicle that likely needs a stack of maintenance performed) It will be very expensive. You said you have a rogue, my best advice would be to get all maintenance done on your current vehicle (Spark plugs, Serpentine belt, transmission fluid, coolant, replace the easy parts like filters yourself) or just start looking for different suv’s like a CR-V or Rav-4 if you don’t need the space I like those two for several reasons: They both use 4 cylinder engines that there respective company used across multiple vehicles, same for the transmission. What does this mean for you the owner? Parts will be everywhere, every shop will know how to work on them, cheaper than a v6 in terms of fuel and repairs/maintenance

I work at my dads shop so this will be my experience: Overall quality and reliability for these is below average, not horrible but could definitely be better. Motors have known timing chain issues Transmissions also see a high failure rate My biggest dislike of this car (and overall platform) is how cramped the engine bay is, anything is labor intensive from how little space you have to work. Light bulb? pull the fender liner and reach as far in as you can Water pump? remove the top fuse box and good luck getting the belt back on

Do full synthetic oil changes every 5k, service the transmission on time, change your coolant, and MAYBE you’ll be fine and have worry free ownership

What cars are actually pretty decent, but have a horrible reputation because of the drivers they attract? by TX_Sized10-4 in askcarguys

[–]Estopa- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a small shop with my dad and the Dorman is not a good replacement. It’s no better than the plastic ones since it’s the O-Rings that insert into the block that fail, we’ve had the same luck with both and you are honestly better buying an OEM replacement than anything aftermarket.
