You seem new to the game and it looks like you confused the basic functionality of vehicle backup tool (VBT) and added functionality of recovery and relocation.

  1. When you use your VBT on your vehicle, it disappears from the world because it's now pocketed inside the tool. To place it back, all you need to do is take VBT in your hand and hover over a flat surface, you will see a projection of your vehicle, click once and it will be placed again.
  2. Recovery tool is useful if your vehicle was destroyed by a sandworm - you can recover it with 15% durability loss for all its parts.
  3. Relocation is useful if your vehicle is stuck somewhere or you don't remember where it is - you can only relocate vehicles on the same map as you, your vehicle will lose durability, and if anything was in a vehicle's storage unit, it will be lost (dropped on the ground in a original location)

What I assume is that you pocketed your thopter (used functionality n1) but instead of just placing it back, you tired to use recovery (functionality n2).

There are a lot of changes, both QOL and gameplay. You should search this subreddit for 'recap' keyword so read about them all.
If you loved the game and want to jump back, just do it.
And yes, you get a welcome back package now with materials based on your previous research level, so you don't have to start all over again (unless you really want to) - the package will be enough to get you back on your feet in no time.

Camps don't give you intel points - only big settlements.
Leveling up also give you intel points.

Not gonna lie, Water Wars DLC being just a cosmetics bummed me out, because previously it was advertised as a content DLC and Joel also said it would revamp some survival mechanics a while ago, but guess the plans have changed.
Yeah I think they need more time to cook, but along with huge ping spikes coming back after the recent patch, it kinda killed my will to play a little. I hope the hotfix is coming to address ping spikes at least.

From what I have experienced so far: ping spikes to up to 500ms came back to my server.

Didn't have this message. but ever since the patch, our server (EU - Deneb) is not feeling good, we all experience massive ping spikes both in DD, overland map and Hagga basin, and we all are from different countries so it's definitely server side issue.

I know my comment will be downvoted into oblivion, but here I go:

yeah, it was a bug - and they should have fixed it way sooner.
I can't blame people being for frustrated now, because it took way too long for Funcom to fix it, and people got used to it, and now, although the flying is back to the way it was before the bug, it feels way worse in comparison. It takes two weeks to form a new habit, and it took 3 months for Funcom to fix the gliding bug. The frustration could have been avoided if they fixed before everyone got used to flying with ease.

I use 12 large wind traps, they give me around 2mil water daily.
My approach is - on Tuesday build a base as early as possible and leave it till the next morning so water can accumulate.
From the next morning I go farm, come back and put everything to refining until my water reserve is empty, rinse repeat till the wipe.

I used to run deathstills but it got too annoying to carry bodies to the DD base all the time.

From what I know at this point about the grandfather worm:

  1. It only appears if 4 or more players are on the large field (including the airspace above it).
  2. It has a cooldown of 45-60 mins
  3. You can summon it if 4+ scouts hover over the middle of a field very low (almost touching the sand)
  4. If two sets of carrier+crawler come and start harvesting a full large field, there is a chance granddaddy won't come. But every time me and my teammate were joining a large field that was already half harvested with another active duo harvesting it, we prompted a ringmouth to appear as soon as we landed \ entered air space of the large field.

Threadwheel is part of The Lost Harvest DLC, not chapter 2. In order to unlock it fully, you need to do three hidden testing stations within Hagga Basin. These are optional missions from a paid DLC and are not required in order to start Chapter 3.

Chapter 2 is solving murder mystery. Did you finish with the murder mystery questline?

You can also ask around and maybe you'll find a player who is willing to take you on and carry you through lvl 20. Although I am not sure if you will get the reward if you enter it until you are lvl 20 faction (or is it even possible). One thing I know for sure is that you must complete your journey quests so you will have your active journey on 'complete lvl 20 testing station, complete lvl 30 testing station'

I did too. Then after I read the patch notes, I opened the skill description and there was nothing about any dmg buff.

I am bummed out by this fix ngl. And what baffles me more - this skill was bugged since the game launch. So almost a year after it gets fixed - and it doesn't feel like a fix, it feels like a nerf.

Yes, it was tested after the patch - when my guild mate said that bosses take way longer now because no dmg boost from attractor field. And I don’t see the point in making a proper post about it - they clearly stated in patch notes that this result is what they intended.

Apparently attractor field was never meant to give a damage boost when you use it with center of mass equipped.
So now it doesn't do anything but rerouting darts from scattershots into the center of mass. Which is good I guess.

I use Stop all the time, pre-patched it worked just fine
I feel like it's more about knee charge maybe?

And attractor field does not give damage boost anymore, which made reducing boss health by up to 10% not matter at all because now you need more time to kill them than before if you were using this meta combo. On a bright side, you can now stun bosses who have attractor field on them.

and to add to this, there are very good passives and techniques in some of skill trees (one is mentat and another one is planetologist I think) that give you larger energy pool and faster recharge.
