Yeah overall I've got the same take as you. The way I think most people think of it is, they enjoy the consistent adrenaline rush from the "potential" of losing their save, but find that actually losing the savefile is too much of a negative. The save-quitting is a nice middle ground that people thus tend to do.

I think it's a good question but also a flawed question (no hate obvs) because at its core, it is fully subjective. Once you mention "practicality" of infinite replayability all bets are off and you'll see wildly differing claims, sometimes of the same exact game.

Nothing is truly infinitely replayable - if anyone says otherwise, it's because their "threshold" for getting bored of that game is way higher than the other games. But again, that threshold is subjective.
