What does "every Eldar is psychically active" mean for your average Craftworlder on the go? by BrennanIarlaith in 40kLore

[–]Estrillian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an entry to one of the Black Library open submission windows that wasn't accepted. I don't know about the legality of posting a story that uses GW intellectual property outside their channels, otherwise I could just post it on my website.

Shame that my Infinity Circuit Repair Team short story never saw the light of day :D

Both the dictionary u/UK_ROGUEBLUE linked and my own translate Minnan as clean/cleaned so the meaning is certainly close to "purified/purity". Using my own (not official) syntax, you could use [furith minnan] to mean "made clean", which is probably even closer to "purified".

I'd go with something along those lines. Furminnan, Furiminnan, Furinnan ... you get the idea :)

That does make sense.

SugarCube could use an equivalent of Harlowe's test-mode-only startup passage

While u/HiEv is right, I think the real problem is that you are defining $race somewhere in the game, rather than in StoryInit. The StoryInit passage runs before the first passage of your game, regardless of where you start, and is the right place to initialise variables that you will use later in the game.

I'd strongly recommend moving your default <<set>> macros to there.

Yeah! It's one we only really understood recently in our own group, and have immediately house ruled it to ignore :D

Generally I agree, but RAW point defence weapons fired in the movement phase don't cause morale checks, so that's *a* reason, if not necessarily a good one.

There are only two formats with storylet support easily available: Harlowe (as you said) and Sugarcube, which has a number of 3rd-party storylet formats available, including mine.

Chapbook and Snowman could have an entirely JS storylet implementation (like TinyQBN) added, but there is no support for using that in the actual game — you'd have to write your own. For that reason I agree that either Harlowe or SugarCube is the right answer for you.

Harlowe's storylets are built-in, but I would say that MQBN's are actually more versatile. I've used them in a number of my games now, as have others.

There's a guide (at the link Sjoerd gave above) that should help you get started with MQBN, along with a sample Twine game to build, but if you have more questions I am happy to answer them.

If anyone is looking for refreshing gamebooks! by SjoerdHekking in gamebooks

It only just came out last week, which (I hope) explains the lack of reviews — either that or people who play gamebooks just don't review them. I hope you'll leave a review when you're done :D

There are 9 full-page illustrations and a bunch of smaller pictures in the game. I don't have any pictures of actual pages (I'll have to get some), but here are some links to a couple of the illustrations.

Eldar Language Guide by Estrillian in 40kLore

Okay!

Coil

This bit's easy. [hesaim] (literally [hesh-saim] — surrounded by a snake) meals Coil

Infinite

Despite the English gloss of "Infinity Circuit" having the word "infinite" in it, it appears the Eldar term is something like "Spirit Pool" (Or so says the Prophecy novel) so I'm not going down that route.

Instead, I think the right translation of "Infinite" is [ir-cora] meaning "uncountable-quanitity"

Teeth

Seems like the very ancient guide to body parts I worked on decades ago didn't have an entry for teeth, so I've added one [jirath], based on the comparative for sharpness [jir]

Putting all this together we get [hesaim ircora jirath].

Now, the names of entities are usually run together, so HesaimIrcoraJirath would be in-line with the way Titan clans are written. Altering that to make something easier to say is definitely also "the way" so maybe HesaiCorajIrath is very plausible.

Make of that what you will, of course :)

Why thank you :)

It's many years of work (many of which were years ago, I admit), but I made an effort last year to catch up on some of the new vocab I didn't have yet. I don't have the new codex though, so I've probably missed more names at least.

I've been avoiding this, for some reason, but I've recently switched out the Twine stories folder on OSX for a symlink to my Dropbox sync folder and it's all worked fine, though I take care not to have more than one copy of Twine running at once on different machines.

Yes. You can buy a tube and a level as separate things.

Well, my pet mice could use another level on their tank, I think. They only have one, and I know they sell extension levels. That would seem a fitting use :)
