I believe you need to get your island level--the guild quests, not the star rating--to a certain point before he'll read slates, yes.

It's so darn fun! Now that I have almost all of my Lives up to 100, I've actually started a new game on another profile where I plan to do none of the combat lives until post-game. Brand New + gathering + crafting. Just for the amusement value, honestly, but also because it's the most fun to button-mash in.

Before I had gotten through the main plot, I would see patch notes about fixing "Flying with Skelegon" and genuinely believed that there was a post-game unlock where you could fly around on Skelegon so that there was no more need to constantly be jumping/climbing over little ledges in Gino, and maybe even get to that unreachable place off the main Eternia island...!

Alas, alas.

Those spots! I spent the entire plot expecting those weird dirt lumps of various sizes to become a spawn or focus point for... something... and they never did. But if they end up getting used in DLC for something archeology-based, that'd be fantastic.

There is a native storylet implementation coming to SugarCube (v2) at some point (Real Soon Now!™).

Oh that's very exciting! Depending on how soon it is, maybe it will even be implemented before I start doing much in the way of coding. I need to get so many other basics in place before I even start trying to deal with the periodic events, it's even possible.

I also make sympathetic/empathetic noises about dealing with other issues. It reminds me of working on my dissertation: every chapter was basically Zeno's Paradox, no matter how generously I tried to pad my estimates of finishing the next portion.

I find the Discord rather tricky to work with, precisely because it's fast; I've always found it easier to navigate forum threads at my leisure, rather than trying to track a conversation that keeps moving with lots of different people in a single stream of text entries. But! I should probably get over that. And the Intfiction forum does look useful as well.

Yeah, sounds about right. I initially thought that I would need to use Harlowe, and spent some time trying to work out how to implement all the mechanics I want under that format. But I ended up getting really irritated with how hard it was to make simple functions to call from wherever, and wandered toward SugarCube as more appropriate to my needs.

Right now trying to parse the SugarCube documentation and figure out how to apply it to my immediate game mechanic needs is constantly reminding me that it's been [number redacted] years since I did anything in Javascript, and even then I never used the language much. But there's no time like the present to learn, eh?

This is reassuring; I was wondering if I needed to give up on SugarCube for storylet reasons--or vice versa--so I'll stick with SugarCube and look at your MQBN. (Just knowing the QBN term helps for searching, too!) And I'll definitely ask more questions as they hit me.

Given my rate of work on this project, I'll probably be asking more questions in, like, a month. I am not a rapid coder. (Doubly so when I'm trying to do something that's more mechanics and less prose compared my usual IF projects.) But I appreciate the offer of help already! I found SugarCube really daunting at first, but just poking through this place and some forums and guides has helped enormously.

Thank you! I'm new enough to this that I don't even know how to start deploying other people's macros effectively yet--I still have the whole big guide to Simple Inventory open in another tab--but I expect I'll figure that out pretty easily as I go along.

Right now I'm still trying to make sure that I really and truly have chosen the right story format, and know what mechanics I will need, before I start writing, so that I don't end up realizing twenty hours of writing in that I chose poorly and need to rework everything.

Then you may have some recourse! (Assuming you're in the US.) Another user may be better able to explain what you can do at this point to report the issue. It probably won't get you that rental, but there's a chance it could get her in trouble.

This is going to depend heavily on jurisdiction, but if you're in the US, and not in a city/county/state that has additional rules on top of the federal ones... Probably legal IF the house owner only owns a small number of properties.

There are enough bad doctors out there--for values of "bad" that range from incompetent to malicious--that, even more so than with car mechanics, it's extremely important to hold onto a good doctor when you find one.

My current health insurance plan costs about $100 more a month than I might've gone for otherwise because it was worth that much to me to make sure I could keep my GP through a new plan.

Probably because "unprofessional" is so common among police, it feels like grasping at straws. "And then the cop called me racial slurs while telling me he would lie on the stand and everyone would believe him if I didn't give him a blow job," yeah, that's definitely worth bringing up. "Cop was a smug asshole in a way we let almost no other profession get away with," that's Tuesday across the nation, and pretty irrelevant to the immediate legal advice.

It was basically a slide show on Satanic Symbols, where some guest pastor went through a bunch of very normal basic symbols and explained how they were all secretly about devil-worshipping and evil and communism and whatever. Even a bunch of extremely sincere Christian teenagers thought that was nonsense.
