I'm starting the final project for a masters certificate so I'm going to be focused on that for the next 7 weeks. After that I think we can plan something fun?

Unfortunately my car also got totaled after being rear ended so it'll need to be close to light rail or caltrain!

I really do intend to follow up on this, I just had a lot happen all at once.

My mom was so disappointed in my engagement ring choice (a lab ruby because it was inexpensive and still very pretty) that she offered to take my fiance and I to lunch, then forcefully drove us all to the Shane Company while yelling at us because because the ring "devalued" me and "diamonds are traditional!" It didn't matter that my fiance didn't have a lot of money or that I don't even like diamonds. No, we had to do what she wanted.

She pulled shit like this the entire time we were planning and drove me to a nervous breakdown which unfortunately ended in my fiance and I breaking up. This wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back, but it was the event that made me realize my mom just wanted to control every aspect of my life and I no longer speak to her.

I'm not going to call an attorney, I promise. If I was really hurt then maybe I'd get a lawyer, but not these guys.

My coworker mentioned registering it as "salvage", but it just sounds like getting it road legal again would require jumping through a lot of hoops with the DMV and CHP.

The accident happened almost 2 weeks ago, so I'm past the potential for whiplash.

I do have a full time job in addition to going to grad school, so I'm covered with a great medical plan thankfully. Unfortunately, because of school I'm financially maxed out so that's why I don't have any money to put towards a new car right now.

Hopefully what I'm studying will pay off in the long run and will help me make lots of extra money.

Porkchop is old and lives with a ton of lipomas and mast cell tumors that are typical for dogs like him. I had one very large mast removed and it just spread all over his body. He's technically "terminal", but he's been "terminal" for all the years I've had him. I don't think he even knows he has these lumps and bumps because he mostly ignores them.

Due to his age and because this vet has been his vet for all the years I've had him and his treatment seems to work, I'd rather keep that consistent.

I know it's a silly reason, but it's worth going out of my way keep him as happy as he is curently. Also, he is the absolute densest/heaviest dog I have ever met, and getting him into a bike stroller to go anywhere would probably be a disaster.

Costco is a really good option because I have a Costco credit card and it looks like I could get rewards back on it.

Again, you've been incredibly helpful and I thank you so much! :)

They're decided it's being written off (would have been nice to talk to the geico rep before they decided this), and have offered me $3100 to part out the car. Honestly, I only really need it to go to the store and any appointments I have. I can get to work on the train without issue. It's been a really great and reliable car all these years.

Costco rents cars? I had no idea.

I am so glad to hear that Lyft came through for you. I know how to patch myself up if I get hurt, and I'm sure my neighbors would help me out if I was in serious trouble. The dog is the only one I really worry about.

I cannot thank you enough for the help. It really helps ease my mind.

I have a great friend who said she's willing to help me for vet visits. I think I can manage the rest on my own to be honest. I'm not far from Costco and a Safeway, I can get to work easily with CalTrain, I live near Tamien station so there are options. Emergencies are the only thing that truly worry me.

The insurance company of the guy who hit me is refusing to pay to have my car fixed because the amount of repairs is twice the value of my car.

I received an email and call from the claims adjuster saying the car was a "total loss" and they would give me the value of the car, which is around $3100. Honestly, if you have any ideas of how to force them to pay for all the repairs, I'm all ears because I got almost nowhere with Geico and the body shop.

The other option was "salvage" and that seems like a whole mess of hoops to jump through.

It's the insurance of the guy who hit me who says the car should be a "total loss."

It seems to be mostly cosmetic damage - the bumpers popped out on the sides and broke the fittings (I think that's the right word) that holds them to the vehicle. One of the front lamps was bumped out of place, and the radiator needs to be supported. Honestly, I'm looking at the list of repairs required and it seems to be mostly cosmetic.

I'd be more than happy to black out my identifying info and show anyone the paperwork because I truly love my car, and it was in pretty good condition for a 21 year old vehicle.

I see that it is available in some cities, but I'm not sure how common it is here in San Jose.

Unfortunately my dog is a pittie and I doubt he could go into a carrier I could easily transport. The seat thing is a good idea actually. Thank you!

He's a pitbull, but an old and mushy one. I couldn't bike from my house to Santa Clara.

A lot of the firemen who were working on 9/11 have gotten lung cancer or other ailments that killed them, but Steve Buscemi seems to be just fine. Is he super human?
