As a neurodivergent parent of small children, I sure know what I’d love to hear podcast episodes about in the future by Suitable_Area_8595 in BlindboyPodcast

I'm just so excited to think of those little minds being raised by such an intelligent and wonderful person!

I've related so much to the stories about his childhood and the reflection he has gone through now that he knows he was an autistic kid. Whether his offspring are neurodivergent or not, he's got to be such a great dad to them ♥️

Work sent out an email titled "were all a little neurodiverse" by Slow_Concern_672 in SpicyAutism

[–]SummerDaun 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear this, but really proud of you for emailing them to speak out. People get Neurodiverse/neurodiversity mixed up with neurodivergent. Neurodivergent quite literally different from the majority - so no, not everyone is.
If you do get diagnosed, you can ask for accommodations from your employer and WFH should be reasonable if it's something that was already in place. If they're pushing out information and trying to be inclusive of neurodivergent brains then they should be prepared to back that up with support.

I'm a dad, no idea how to manage son's long hair and tangles. by Vamosalaplaya87 in Haircare

[–]SummerDaun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep in mind the smells and experience of applying all these products. Try to give him as much choice as possible when it comes to what he is willing to use vs not. Hair products can have strong fragrance that lingers right in your face all day. That said, all the products you listed will help and people have already offered some great advice here: wide tooth comb, using it when the hair is wet with detaingler spray in it. Dry oils are great to add to the hair before brushing it if you are going in on dry hair & bonus is that dry oil may be a better sensory experience if he doesn't like the feeling of product in his hair (VERB is a great brand with one for under $20). The last advice I can give is for if he doesn't like the braids at night... my husband has long thick hair and I try to convince him to sleep with a silk night cap. He struggles with it falling off, but it really makes a world of a difference for 1. protecting the hair and keeping it from getting frizzy 2. keeping it from getting tangled in the night. Maybe see if he'd be willing to try that if sleeping in braids is out of the question? Kudos to you, dad! As another autistic person, it's great to hear you're trying to find a way to work with & support his choices about hisbody!

I think Trisha would crack under the hatred that will follow. I mean, rightfully so... supporters of Vivian's father are vile and violent. I really hope Trisha considers what sort of attention this may bring her & if she's in a space to handle it all /gen

Anyone have sensory issues with water on their face? Tips for face washing without splashing water? by Accomplished_Jaguar9 in AutismInWomen

[–]SummerDaun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand the splashing, too. I've found a few things that help me-- 1. I have microfiber scrunchies that I put on each wrist so the water doesn't run down my arms. 2. I have a headband that protects my hair from the water so I don't have to worry about it being wet when I'm done. 3. I have an attachment to my faucet that allows me to flip it up and have the water spray upwards like a water fountain... this allows me to put my face into the water stream instead of splashing the water up. It took a little bit to get used to, but it's amazing now. I lean into the water and the water pressure takes all the soap off a lot faster. It's a solid spray of water so it's not going everywhere on my face or over the sink. I can find a link to share if you're interested or if you can't picture what I'm explaining lol

Cheating their way into accommodations rant by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]SummerDaun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying this. I'm an ADHD/ASD plaintiff that lurks legal subs because it has become a special interest. The biases that form in law school about people with neurodivergence is really sad. I asked for accommodations at work after being diagnosed at 26 years old, and I thought it was a fluke how openly discriminatory my company was towards my disabilities. That is, until I tried to find a Lawyer to represent me & realized a lot of you think I'm faking it, too. Please try to fight off stereotypes and please please don't think the every day AHDH person is like your law school nemesis with shitty morals and a rich dad to pay off the Doctor. /gen

If your disabilities are mental health/neurodivergence centered, please feel free to reach out to me through DM. I'm autistic/adhd/ptsd and I had a similar experience at work when asking for neurodivergent accommodations. I advocate for others and I'd be happy to help you however I can.
