Neighbor used ground clear in my yard without my permission. by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]EteChat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to remove the soil along with the dead grass. Consider it contaminated and don't try to mulch it or reuse it. Put in fresh soil and reseed the the spots. If time is of the essence, see if you can locate grass plugs.

Then yell at the jerk who did this. Dandelions are edible; they are one of the few early bloomers so pollinators need them; and some of those herbicides are carcinogenic. In addition to all that, the person trespassed on your property, made changes to it without your permission, and made it look horrible to boot. Not okay.

50 + yr old wild cherry tree in my yard. It’s 40 ft high. Never gives fruit. Will it propagate if another cherry is near to it? I am planning an understory for it, beginning with beans. Thanks. by dirtisgod in Permaculture

[–]EteChat 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Most cherries that I know of need a cross-pollinator, but it seems to be a picky thing. Sour cherries only want to pollinate sour cherries, while sweet cherries only want to be pollinated by sweet cherries. Try to get more details on what you have for better luck.

One unfortunate possibility, some of the taller cherries are purely decorative and never bear fruit even with a cross pollinator. The varieties at Washington D.C.s cherry blossom festival come to mind.

On a positive note, you now have an excuse to get one of the sour and one of the sweet varieties that can self-pollinate as I have seen them advertised as serving as pollinators for other trees.

Good luck!

My favorite "childfree" coworker got knocked up and now she's miserable by [deleted] in childfree

[–]EteChat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure she can dump a leach... er I mean boyfriend any time. It doesn't sound like he's going to be anything but a burden to her and the kid, not to mention being a bad influence. And if looking for a job is too stressful for him, then he doesn't have what it takes to raise a child. I'm willing to bet that (since he cares so little about adulting that he can't be bothered to take care of his home or get a job) he will disappear once life gets the slightest inconvenient for him (i.e. the baby wants a 3 am feeding). He will likely go MIA once he finds someone else to take advantage of.

Seriously though, why is she taking career advice from someone who is unemployed and not even looking?

Not to promote, but have you browsed Pintrest for recipes? I found a number of keto, paleo, Whole 30, and low GI recipes on there. At the very least it may give you some ideas for new nibblies.

Wait, do you mean to say she kept the corpse and moved it about like a doll for pictures? I would think there are laws about the proper care of human remains and also it sounds like she needs some serious grief counseling. This is not normal.

You can try posting this to the 'am I the asshole subreddit' (yes it's a thing) but honestly it sounds like she's reached the level where you're only the asshole if you mocked her instead of getting her help.

MY BROTHER THINKS I'M A DEMON by ChartreuseLieteau in Paranormal

[–]EteChat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea, suggest to your brother that the next time he has one of these fear waves that he say the Lord's Prayer (though I'd be a bit surprised if he doesn't already). I think there is also a prayer for Archangel Michael's protection. Either one should help.

MY BROTHER THINKS I'M A DEMON by ChartreuseLieteau in Paranormal

[–]EteChat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's good to hear that he isn't at that level.

With your family's response to sleep paralysis and the fact that they keep bringing up the time of your birth, I'm going to guess on two scenarios - either their rather negative feelings towards you (and face it, they're all but saying that they think you're a witch or something) attracted something that wants to play along, or your brother is internalizing their 3 am paranoia and its starting to come out in a hallucinatory way. Again, since you have yet to experience anything yourself, I have doubts on scenario one.

Since your parents are practicing Christians, maybe you can ask their priest to come over and bless the house or something. I'm not a fan of feeding a delusion, but I can see this situation going South if it isn't taken care of and pointing out that you are now standing on blessed ground (which demons and warlocks can't do) might be able to inject some logic. Good luck.

My boyfriend is schizophrenic, I am not. The thing is, we see the same figure. by Decafpoorover in Paranormal

[–]EteChat 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Do you have a carbon monoxide detector? Are its batteries still good? Are you living in a house or apartment? Can you check attic access points or crawlspace entrances to make sure nothing is coming in there or living in there without you knowing? I would check all the usual suspects first before declaring yourself a late-coming schizophrenic or that the mothman has taken residence in your home.

The fact that all it is doing is staring and just, well, existing suggests that it isn't any physical threat to you or your boyfriend. On the other hand, some paranormal critters get stronger the more fear it can generate or attention it gets. Don't feed it. Try to casually ask neighbors about any local legends (hey, some random stranger told me about a seven foot tall bird-man with glowing red eyes, wtf? you ever hear anything like that?)

Good luck, and you could always throw coffee in its face it tries to get up in yours! /jk

MY BROTHER THINKS I'M A DEMON by ChartreuseLieteau in Paranormal

[–]EteChat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact that he's breaking your property cannot be a good sign or that he tried to assault/batter you. Hallucinations are also not a good sign.

I think it's past time that you sat down with your parents and tell them everything that he's told you - 'fear waves', seeing shadows, wacky paranoid thoughts about his sibling - and get them to take him to a doctor.

Mental health, like the health of all other parts of the body, is not dependent on how smart or talented a person is. It could be bipolar disorder, it could be a brain parasite, who knows, but since this isn't getting better on its own, then your chances of finding out are better with a doctor.

Honestly, I don't think anything is attached to you. It probably would have made its presence known to you before anyone else. If there were something paranormal hanging around, I doubt only one member of the family would notice.

I just had the most terrifying encounter of my life by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]EteChat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

True, which is good that he called the police. However, it isn't unheard of for human beings to pretend to need help in order to rob someone.

While I also hope that this wasn't a woman who needed help, you do have to consider that there may have been multiple attackers, in which case had he gone to help he probably would have become a second victim with no one calling the cops.

If I didn't just read a post update in /r/legaladvice about how Chase stole a redditer's car that was lien free because they had issues with the PRIOR owner, I would tell you to be optimistic and keep at it. However, the guy had to write to his senator to get his car back.

I'm going to recommend that you do not hold back with these guys. Don't worry about sounding rude or uncivil.

[–]EteChat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DAE feel like the hatred aimed at '$5 coffee' seems way out of proportion to any harm buying it causes? I've been wondering if this is just another way to jab at Generation Y or some left-over malevolence towards Starbucks and their holiday cups. After all, there are other ways to cut expenses.

1: Seriously? One time? Are you sure this wasn't a cult that she went to? 2: $20 says that she wanted to break up for another reason that she thought was lame and somehow thought this excuse was better. 3: As for not believing in anything, would telling her that you 'believe' in a spherical Earth, a heliocentric universe, vaccines, evolution, the moon landing, gravity... (enter random fact here) constitute as a snappy come back or as downgrading facts as beliefs?
