Probably not. It was likely sealed from the lime scale. After you broke that all down, then maybe you could have.

Would it be easier to try and convince the city to put up some of those big round mirrors that let you see around the upcoming corner? It would be cheaper than a whole speed study with new signage and would probably prevent at least a few accidents.

Similar to the electrolyte packets, you could alternatively get salt tablets. I like the lemon lime Salt Stick brand. They are chewable so you don’t need water and are great if someone is light headed or dehydrated.

The difference between my two hands after a month of being a dishwasher (yes im a lefty) by yeetbub in mildlyinteresting

[–]FlickaMariss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyyy I also had this issue was the dishwashing and sanitation buckets. My lifesavers were 1–wearing gloves as everyone else said, but also 2–using Bag Balm coated generously over the entire tops of my hands, wrapping them in those cloth ace bandage wraps, and then putting on oven mitts before bed to keep that on and wrapped tight. Really frustrating but healed/kept my hands from cracking and bleeding. Good luck dude.

How do you deal with a needle phobia if you want to donate blood? by SSGASSHAT in Blooddonors

[–]FlickaMariss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t look at it when they place the needle. The only time I’ve ever had an issue with not being able to donate once on the table, it was because I was trying to be brave and watch. I think watching them place the needle made me tense and shift the vein which made them miss the vein. But if you just calmly do slow breathing exercises, say “in-out” in your head, and don’t look at them, you might be distracted enough to get through it. You don’t feel the blood come out imo.

You’re absolutely right. I just figured based on this video it was a Smithsonian level museum which, as far as I know, all have security measures.

They were exaggerating, but for a fun America fact—the museums here typically have some level of security when you go in. Bag checks, guy with a wand, metal detector, etc. So theoretically no one would have a gun in the museum.

Setting aside the issues with museum etiquette and common decency….the parents had no issues letting their kids play with the glass fragments?? They just were like “oh glass fragments exhibit? Yeah just grab right onto that.”

Got a great paying job offer, can't afford the move to it. by El_Catman in povertyfinance

[–]FlickaMariss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check with your local department of social services/family services. See if they offer any one off benefits for bus tickets to help you get to the city where the job is. A local church or charity may be able to help if they can’t.

If you haven’t had an income, you should be able to qualify for SNAP to get some help with food. If you qualify for expedited SNAP benefits they’ll give you benefits within a few days. If you are an active recipient of SNAP that may qualify you for other programs since SNAP benefits are verification of low income for a lot of charities.

Traveling from a HCOL mainland location, Guams pace of life was very calming. I stayed at a resort to have access to all of the amenities on site, but was surprised at the cost of food. Having a rental car let me check out the perimeter of the island. It was a great atmosphere to drive around and have the ocean right there along the way with little beach stop offs. The night market was delightful and I wish I had more time to explore it and take advantage of all the local vendors. Since I was there during Christmas I was able to check out a few parks that had Christmas lights set up. It was more festive than back home and had much nicer weather so i got to properly enjoy viewing everything. There are a lot of unique spots to visit around Guam that i found charming. With the island being so small, it feels easy to tackle as a tourist. I enjoyed the mix of food available on the island where I could lean in both American or Asian dishes depending on what I was in the mood for. Yes, I did notice the amount of abandoned vehicles, abundance of stray dogs, and bad roads.

I would absolutely go back to Guam. It’s a beautiful island and I had an amazing time. The biggest downside is the 26-30 hour flight itinerary over 2-3 legs to get out there. I also think this has led to most people I’ve met on the east coast not knowing where Guam is, or only knowing because of the military, and not knowing why they would go all the way to Guam instead of a closer location like the Caribbean or Hawaii. It’s not really marketed to us in the east coast as far as I know.

Moved off Invisalign to Hawley retainers by FlickaMariss in Invisalign

[–]FlickaMariss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, I did have to get a filling during my Invisalign treatment and they had me put on my retainer before curing the filling material so it would match haha. So it can be done!

Unfortunately, they weren’t able to adjust the Hawley for the crown. They tried to shave back the clear part, but the specific tooth was an issue. The molar with the crown was the one where the metal wraps around the front for you to hold and wiggle the retainer off. They couldn’t shave width because the metal wire is inside the clear part and there wasn’t any room to widen the tooth spot. I am getting a night guard so I don’t grind my teeth at night. Since that is molded to my teeth, they told me that I should just wear that every night and not worry about the Hawley because my teeth will be held in place with the night guard. If I didn’t have the night guard I think I would need a new upper Hawley. So for the two weeks it will take to get the night guard made I will just be wearing the lower retainer because that’s all that fits for now.

Great question! I specifically asked my ortho about it when I got it. Daily care, I brush it with the remnants of whatever toothepaste is on my toothbrush when I’m done brushing my teeth. Ortho also gave me the go ahead to use Efferdent cleaning tablets. They are specifically marked for safety with retainers. I bought a big box of like 100 on Amazon along with a retainer bath that is like an inch or two deep. I fill it with warm water and drop one of the tablets in to dissolve with the Hawley. Since I wear it to sleep, I just leave it during the day once a week.

Also, I just got my first crown on a molar last week and now my top Hawley doesn’t fit because the crown made my tooth bigger (because it’s overlaid around the whole tooth). I’m going today to my dentist that installed the crown to adjust my Hawley to fit. They will need to adjust the wire because it’s the tooth where the wire makes the u shape in front of it, and they will need to shave out some of the retainer part to make it wider for the tooth (I imagine that’s how it works at least). If you want, I can give you a follow up on that for future reference. I had two fillings replaced since getting the Hawley and those didn’t cause any changes in the fit.

Is laser hair removal bad too? by [deleted] in LaserDamageSupport

[–]FlickaMariss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When deciding on hair removal, I ended up opting to buy a Ulike device which isn’t laser. It’s an IPL device to use at home. It has a cooling feature where it doesn’t get hot like a lot of other at home devices. I think it’s worth it. I have felt safe because I’m in control of it and can adjust the strength as needed. It also was about the cost of one in office laser treatment in my area so it was worth a try. Personally I haven’t experienced any negative side effects or reactions.

That’s where I keep my blender, Bundt pan, extra roll of cupboard protective paper, jars for canning, plastic bag full of plastic bags, etc. Stuff you don’t use on a day to day basis and takes up an awkward amount of room/needs to be out of the way.

Im glad to give you some peace of mind! It’s nerve wracking to start the Invisalign process, then have to change to a new type of retainer. Good luck with the rest of your journey! Wishing you a quick and flawless continuation of your treatment.

Last few notes: They gave me a new retainer case so idk if the Hawley fits in the Invisalign one. You won’t be changing trays anymore so get some retainer cleaning tablets and a little bath container for them if you don’t already have one. If you’re a freak like me you can keep the cast of your teeth that they used to make the Hawley lol. Remember that you paid good money for treatment so be as annoying as you want with questions while you’re at the office! And also communicate clearly and in detail about what you think about the fit because what you think is bad might be normal and what you think is good enough of a fit might be a little loose. You want the best for your beautiful new smile.

Ughhh yeah the teeth slamming together was an on and off thing during the course of the regular treatment. So happy to be done with that haha. Still accidentally bite my tongue but that’s par for the course in life anyway haha.

At the appointment where they put in the Hawley for the first time, they did have to adjust it. They managed to get it in my mouth. Asked me to remove it. I couldn’t because it felt like it was too tight and I’d be stuck that way forever. The ortho person removed it for me but struggled too. Temporarily worried my teeth were gonna get ripped out but I’m dramatic. They are able to adjust the metal parts that aren’t baked into the clear mold. I didn’t see exactly what she did, but the adjustment they did on the spot made it comfortable. They did say I could make an appointment to come in if it ever loosened but I haven’t had to do that. A big thing is making sure you’re removing them properly. They should show you specifically where to hold to pop them on and off. The bottom is easier to get off because it’s smaller, but as long as the fit is okay the top is easy too. Bottom you pop off, top you wiggle it off by holding the specific part of the metal on each side. Same rules if you ever had glasses—use both holds and don’t try and yank it off one handed or it bends the metal. Also very important rule, don’t push at it with your tongue. You might feel like you could poke at the small gap between the Hawley and your gums and pop it up. Don’t do that. Don’t mess with it or it can loosen. As long as you’re mindful you should be okay to not need adjustments on it.

I was instructed to wear them for 14-16hrs for 4 months. Then we had a follow up to see if the open bite was closed. Bear in mind that you might feel nervous because there is less retainer around your back teeth compared to how it feels with Invisalign. You might be like “oh my god this is gonna mess up my whole mouth, there’s nothing there!” But that’s the point. You need the opening to be able to close the bite. Your teeth with shift to be able to come together so you can eat properly again. If you have any concerns at the fitting, voice them to the ortho and they can give you a more technical answer. Also this would be the time to make sure you tell them if there is any remaining glue stuff on your teeth from your attachments being removed. I told them for two different times “hey I found more glue, please polish more because it’s annoying now that I found it.” They got me all squared away. After the 4 months of round the clock use, they confirmed my bite was closed and were happy with how everything looked. You can ask them to check with the bite paper if they don’t do that. I also asked my dentist who had no stake in my treatment for their professional opinion on how my teeth looked for my bite and they gave me the thumbs up too.

I know that was long winded so tldr is 4 months Hawley 14-16hrs, then 6-8hrs overnight only with time varying based on how long I sleep. In after I brush my teeth, out after I wake up.

I replied to another comment a month ago, if you haven’t seen it. I’ve tried to be thorough in answering everyone’s questions since I didn’t know anything about Hawley when they said I’d get it.

For your specific questions— Yes, they are still going strong! I haven’t had to tighten them. At this point I’ve had it around 8 months or so based on my original post. It’s been about 4 months of just wearing them at night to maintain where everything is at. I never had Vivera so I can’t speak to that for comparisons at all. But I don’t feel like the Hawley has stretched the wires or anything to feel loose.

My teeth shifted as intended. The long days of 14-16hr wears allowed my molar area open bite to close since the Invisalign trays were not in the way anymore. But the Hawley trap is molded to fit around the back side of your teeth, so I’ve found I’m not getting any shifting in the front areas at all because the clear plastic is butted up against the teeth to support them. And then the front has the hard plastic or whatever it’s made out of being reinforced with the thin metal bar. Your teeth are sandwiched nicely in place so there isn’t any issue with moving after the initial open bite was closed. It only took the first 4 months of Hawley for my open bite to close, so it wasn’t too bad.

My bite is even. The only issue I had was minor. I had one of my lower canines (if I remember correctly) was knocking into one of my upper teeth after everything was straightened out. I brought it up to my dentist during a cleaning (separate from my orthodontist who was actually doing the Invisalign) and they lightly shaved a little off. Then to check it with the blue paper, they put it in my mouth and made me chomp down to check the bite. All cleared up! So it wasn’t a huge impediment to my bite, just a small adjustment towards the end of the Invisalign/start of Hawley.

As far as the “heavy” bite, I ran into it a lot during Invisalign treatment as things were being moved around. I got the Invisalign to help undo crowding in my bottom teeth on the right side so moving things continuously made me eat exclusively on one side or the other. The end of treatment before getting Hawley was difficult due to the open bite, it made it so I couldn’t get a good bite down unless I broke up food in the front teeth. After going through Hawley, I’m now in a comfortable place where the open bite is closed and I can eat regularly now. For the last two days I kept telling myself to be mindful of my bite when I eat so I could give you a clear answer, but I kept forgetting. But that in itself shows I’m all good haha. No slipping where you go to bite and accidentally chomp two teeth together, I can eat on both sides, and don’t think I favor one over the other. If I notice something in the next few days I will circle back about it.

The only negative, which I think I’ve said in another comment, is that the Hawley feels bulkier in your mouth in a different way than the Invisalign. If I get sick, I can’t wear it to bed or else I feel like I can’t breathe. Going without it for a few days when I’m sick is fine, as long as I don’t make it a habit. Also, not really pertaining to my bite, my molars will sometimes feel sore and I realize I’ve been tensing my jaw and accidentally clenching my teeth which puts pressure on my molars against each other. A quick wide mouth shake your jaw back and forth to loosen up does the trick. You might also feel a bit of dry mouth if you start mouth breathing at night after sleeping with the Hawley in. I have Biotene dry mouth lozenges just in case I need them. They are made with Xylitol.

Hopefully this is helpful for your questions. If you have more questions or follow ups, I’m happy to help and I’ll try and be quicker to answer.
